Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 05 1.6 Auto transmission failure 1 Jul 2022 (Forum)
We use the car for driving a disabled elderly relative, so the high seats and easy access of the C-Max are very important. Are there any reliable, lower-cost alternatives to a replacement transmission? If we went for the replacement transmission, how can we rely on it lasting more than 46,000 miles? What should we reasonably expect from Ford Customer Service or our local dealer? -
Tesla still out front 6 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Build quality on the facelifted Model 3 is also improved, though not up with the Audi or Polestar. Finally, though it shouldn't be that important, the Tesla was also the quickest car on test. So while the big manufacturers are starting to get their acts together, it seems they still have work to do regarding battery management, a lot in the case of Polestar. -
Toyota Estima - Japanese MPVs Should I? 27 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Then down our road I spotted this car that I loved immediately, I've been clocking the family getting in and out and just love the way it looks, it's a white 2010 Toyota Estima and having spent some time in Japan it feels like a car Japanese people would have as opposed to Japanese cars in the UK which feel like cars pandering to the UK with a Japanese badge. I've started to look for one but it appears they're all imports and this makes me uneasy, we've worked really hard to pay the 2018 Fabia off entirely and with 35,000 miles on the clock, the full manufacturer service history, it's still worth about 6k (although it has a scrape down one side I intend to fix before moving on). -
Used car for £8k? 3 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Shes looking at buying her first car and has saved 8k as her budget she wanted to use as deposit on a pcp deal but i told her you could get a used car for the price. Before i say anything else there one important thing you need to know my sister is a medical student (shes in her finanl year) and from august this year she goes into foundation training Y1 then once completed she will go into Foundation Y2 next year after that she will be going into GP specialty training for 3yrs. -
The Reality of Low Cost/Desperate Motoring 2 Sep 2018 (Forum)
A Megane would not have been my recommended car but at this end of the market, I believe, condition and service history is all important. Worst comes to worst, the cost of the car plus tyres is about £600. If the car lasts a year, that's £50 a month. The Bank of Dad can stand that. This is motoring in the real world. -
Mazda 6 - 2018 facelift diesel reliability 3 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Has the diesel problems been addressed by Mazda? Having only one car, the reliability is an important factor for me. However, I did see in the brochure, that the facelifted diesel engine has been increased from 175ps to 184ps and the compression has been increased by a fraction. So I guess some modifications has been done to the engine. -
Ford StreetKa - Ford StreetKA brake pedal goes to floor 4 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Hi guys, I’m new on this forum and would appreciate all your help! My sisters streetka failed it’s MOT on various bits and bobs, most important being that the brake pedal creeps to the floor under pressure. I started with the obvious and used my eezibleed kit to bleed the brakes, no air came out whatsoever and fluid looked like new. My next step was to get a second hand master cylinder online, I noticed when I bench bled the new(ish) master cylinder that once is topped up the reservoir it started coming out both brake line holes almost immediately, as if I didn’t need to bleed it at all. -
Toyota Urban Cruiser - Tyre choice 3 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Slush and standing water all dealt with confidently at safe speed. I suppose the meaning of this post is to illustrate the importance of those black rubber things on your car. For any driver tyre choice is vital. I have no affiliation with any of the tyre manufacturers mentioned, I am just a tyre obsessive OAP. -
Nissan Elgrand? - Load carrying vehicle recommendation 22 Feb 2018 (Forum)
We own a SEAT Altea XL but one out my bikes doesn't fit (recumbent bike). So subverting bigger is needed. One idea is a Nissan Elgrand personal import. I've seen 2004-2006 versions fit £5995-6995 OTR UK registered. The advantage of that is vanlike capacity and third row of seats that fold against the side instead of being removed and stored somewhere (no garage or shed space for removed seats). -
any - rear dashcam 8 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I'm not sure yet if the camera will retain date/time stamp sufficiently during its off periods, time will tell, so at the moment i have disabled said date/time stamp on the assumption no stamp is better than the wrong one, do you think the time stamp is important or would you chaps leave it off too? it will be a pita to keep having to reset the time every time i leave the car for more than 48 hours, this is a problem with some Transcends too (having no battery as such, one of our two loses the time in about 36 hours) but the Transcends are fortunately easy peasy to reprogram the time. -
SEAT Leon - 2007 Seat Leon 1.9 DTI DPF or not? 31 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Ive read all the horror stories about low mileage Diesels and DPF but was under the impression that the 1.9 TDI in a 2007 Leon is pretty much the bullet proof engine thats in my Golf, is that correct? But the important question is how can I be sure it is DPF Free? The dealer doesnt know. Im also open to suggestions for other models. I tried a 2010 Hyundai i10 today 1.2 petrol and it was ok. I just like the torquey desiels which I am used to. -
ford focus estate tdci - plug in tuning boxes 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I drive a Focus estate 1.8 Tdci, so im no performance junkie, but what made me sit up and take notice was the advertised 10% improvement in fuel economy and promise of smoother running, eliminating flat spots and bogging down, which my car seems particularly prone to. The fact this device is supposed to boost BHP from 115 to @135 isn't as important to me as the fact that this box should lead to a better running more economical car. Albeit, more "go", i would view as a bonus. Im aware of the insurance impilcations, im honest, so will inform them should i go ahead and purchase one. -
Jaguar XJ8 - HPI shows different model (Executive / Sovereign) 6 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I've just done an HPI check and it seems to check out all fine: JAGUAR PETROL AUTO - 5 GEAR 4-DOOR SALOON BLACK NO OUTSTANDING FINANCE NO COLOUR CHANGES NO IMPORT/EXPORT NO PLATE CHANGES NEVER BEEN SCRAPPED The only thing that's bugging me is that I was under the impression it was an Executive model. The boot of the car has an EXECUTIVE badge on it BUT the HPI check states that it's a SOVEREIGN model instead. -
Suggestions of a good new car 4 x 4 5 Jul 2015 (Forum)
What I need: High ride and good seat position as I do very long journeys (often5-6hours at a time) The biggest boot space possible Seats for 5 people as I have young kids - also I like a solid, 'safe' car - more important to me than price Cruise control Not slow! Other things that would be good: I prefer automatic because I often have sciatica in my left leg Prefer diesel, but not fixed in stone Xenon or led headlights I am sure there are other things I haven't remembered... -
EU Tyre Labels, of value? 9 Jun 2015 (Forum)
So, in summary, the measured values are: a) Measured by the tyre maker. b) Can be 'improved' by the measurement method. c) Ignore very important aspects of tyre performance. Might we be surprised if the less scrupulous makers purposefully design tyres which give good EU label values, but which in the real world are awful? In my opinion these EU tyre labels are not only not of use, they are worse than useless i.e. they are potentially dangerous, and may increase tyre related accidents. -
Daytime TV 7 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Yesterday, I was unfortunate enough to be at home during the day with very little to do. Upon carrying out the weeks most important tasks - taking advantage of a Strongbow offer at Sainsburys and making a bacon sandwich - I viewed some late morning television. I am familiar with Bargain Hunt and the endless property shows - presumably aimed at the retired - but I happened across one of those 'consumer advice' shows fronted by Angela Rippon, in between having her face revarnished. -
New Car for Under £12k 15 Sep 2013 (Forum)
My requirements are that I plan to keep the car for a long time, so it has to be reliable, cheap to run, 5-doors and boot space is important. It also has to handle relatively well. I'd ideally like it to be either new, or almost new, so either ex-demo/pre-reg or one previous owner less than a year old will do. I had been mainly looking at the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20 or the Ford Fiesta. -
Is there such a car? 12 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I want: To pay less than £9,000 It to be high miles per gallon so fuel costs are as low as possible, this is quite important. Preferably over 50mpg since the fuel figures listed are always optimistic to say the least. That would give us mid 40's maybe in reality? Preferably in tax bands A-G 5 door Fast acceleration I don't think I can get all of that in one car. -
Renault - Key Cards - security improvement 16 May 2013 (Forum)
I got this from the Renault forum interesting info for people who were going to waste their money on EBay. Renault key cards - IMPORTANT INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- As of 4 June 2006 You will NOT be able to buy a new keycard from Renault without supplying the VIN number and proof of ownership of the vehicle. -
Honda Civic Type S - Honda Happiness? Have I been miss sold? 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
According to the Honda Approved website the car ticked all my boxes: Sat Nav, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity being the three important factors. When I arrived, I discovered that the car didn't include Sat Nav. The dealer acknowledged this and apologised. I specifically clarified with the dealer that the car does include Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and he confirmed that it did so I decided to purchase the car with the understanding that it came without Sat Nav, but with Bluetooth and iPod connectivity....
