Norfolk Lines......pretty flipping good! 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
However, as I have mentioned previously, Norfolk Lines is the chosen carrier these days for my all too infrequent sojourns to France. They have free WiFi on board. How cool is that? That is how I am sitting here alerting you back roomers to this fact. Helps the two hour journey go quickly. Food? Piping hot, simple and tasty. -
Registration Doc'- Delayed by "Dealer" 3 May 2006 (Forum)
When I mentioned that none of this had been stated in our previous conversations he said, "I would have told you if you had asked" Well, you can imagine my reaction: 1: I paid in full for the car on delivery 2: It is my car 3: I do what I damn well please with it, 4: My use of the car is not their concern 5: What if I had picked up a GATSO or speeding summons I would not have known as the paperwork would have gone to them 6: I have broken the law in France by not having it with me when I drive there 7: I will be speaking to Trading Standards in Manchester As it happens, when I got home from work, there was the DVLA envelope on the doormat. So, no need to battle with them anymore. -
Keep car? Change car? Lease Car? 22 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Annual mileage would be below 10,000 as the Picasso's mileage has a couple of trips to the South of France on it that won't be happening again. If you've read this far, thank you! What makes/models would you recommend and what are the potential pitfalls etc of leasing? As regulars will know, I plead complete ignorance on most car stuff so do not be worried about stating anything obvious! -
Compensation from VW 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The biggest problem, however has been a problem with the engine electronics which has caused the car to completely stop on three occassions. The last time was in July in France. Fortunately the French dealers are better trained that their UK equivalents and they quickly found a faulty engine sensor and some wires that had been damaged during assembly. It runs much better now. -
Executive saloon purchase 13 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I need a reasonably large saloon for relatively low mileage motoring in the UK for most of the time, but with a lot of long distance trips in Europe (France, Germany, Scandinavia, Austria and Switzerland) thrown in also. It will need to be able to take 3-4 people with a lot of luggage, and I don't want to be put off having a long weekend in Europe by the thought of the driving, so it must be quiet and comfortable. -
All part of the (Citroen ) Service? 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Just been to France for a few days. Very successful in stocking up with cheap booze and tobacco products. However, weather was pretty cr*p and my Xantia started filling up with water in back footwell and beneath back seats. -

Citroen Xsara Picasso, 1.6 TDi, 2004, 75k miles - Sudden total clutch slip(?) - no previous symptoms 18 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Advice please! - Am in France and need knowledge/info before a garage 'has me by the curlies...' and takes me to the cleaners! Does anyone have any experience of this? Driving normally, slowing and got a judder (I thought I was too slow for still being in 5th gear), immediately depressed clutch (and engine stalled), changed gear and expected to 'bump re-start' car while still driving - but I had no clutch engagement. -

Renault Espace - Garage sevices 28 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I'm having a nightmare with this one. Last September my Espace went in to limp mode on the way back from France, after we got home I went to my local garage who said the turbo had gone, they ordered and fit a new turbo and for 3 weeks the car ran fine. Then while my wife was driving the acceleration became jerky, I took it back to the garage, they had the car for over a week and couldn't find anything wrong with it and suggested I took it to my Renault dealer, which I did. -
First Time Buyer Need Advice 9 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Also the car MUST have an AUTOMATIC transmission, not manual or robotic manual (like the Honda Jazz II) otherwise the wife cannot legally drive it in France. I have only driven two cars myself a Volvo 240GS Stationwagon (manual) and currently a Citroen C3 at the auto school. I keep hearing bad things about the realibilty of French cars (mostly from the French) so I would prefer something thats not likely to leave me stranded in the middle of the highway. -
The mobile phone - as Sat Nav & voice only 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Without looking at a screen and listening to the very chatty voice - I found I was reading road signs and street names - and was concentrating on them and on the road more. Just as when we memorized paper maps. We will be going to france later in the year and only there will I be able to really test that further. Handy though - just popping it onto the rubber mat on the dash - then pocketing it at stops. No sucker marks, cables or my case, the big free standing Garmin mount. -
Route advice please - Calais to Lot-et- Garonne 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The viaMichelin puts the distances virtually the same at 886km for the former route and 893km for the latter and only 30 minutes longer but considerably cheaper on tolls - in fact I see that if I take the N20 between Orleans and Vierzon instead of the tollA71 then the only toll part of the second route would be the stretch between Boulogne and Abbeville. Does anyone use the second route (or part of) when going to south west France - I believe the roads approaching Rouen have been upgraded. Specifically can anyone advise if there are any problems around the Rouen - Everex -Dreux - Chartres route and the condition of the N20 Orleans to Vierzon (ie is it single or dual carriageway). -
No oil, engine ruined, Not MY fault (of course) 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Its starting to irritate and I`m picking up all the little hints of this underlying failure to accept personal accountability, while before they went over my head. I`m tempted to move to France, buy a big pile in the middle of nowhere and live a rural life with no contact with the UK and the English speaking world, especially the news. Sure a little tongue in cheek, (maybe) but just how do you continue to tolerate the continuing development of self seeking behaviour in UK society AND to read all about it on motoring forums?
