  Hi I'm new here do forgive me if I do this wrong. Car lacking power, black smoke and excessive oil usage. Removed the fuel filter yesterday to find the diesel black so now I know where the oil is going but where to start to find the problem? High pressure pump?

  Hi all,,I am going to change the oil and ffilters on my Patrol,,it has 84000 miles on it and as sweet as a nut,, I have heard that using fully synthetic 0w30 is the best,,and helps fuel economy. any thoughts on this one folks,,,or should i stick with the semi diesel engine oil??  thants,,James.

  Incorrect fuelling could be eliminated by changing the cross section design of the pump nozzle and fuel tank filler pipe. For petrol the nozzle and filler pipe could continue to be round, for diesel the filler pump nozzle and filler pipe should be square section. With the correct dimensions it's possible to ensure that only the petrol pump nozzle would fit the petrol filler and only the diesel nozzle would fit the diesel filler.

  Im interested in a toyota avensis estate 2004. Ive seen a 1.8 petrol but have always driven diesels. I was wondering with regards to fuel and servicing, which would i be better off with I drive on average 10000 a year and my current car get between 45-50mpg which im very happy with.   hope sombody may be able to help as its coming up to xmas and i have no vehicle! i stupidly ran out of fuel in my 95 2.5d transit,it now has diesel in it but just turns and wont start,i thought there was some kind of manual pump to prime the injectors but i cant see it anywhere??

  I'm just about to buy my next car and have almost decided that I'm going to ditch diesel after having driven only that in my five years with a licence, and would be interested in the views of nayone who's done the same and regretted/would recommend making this move.   This is an unbiased opinion, based on garage emission evidence. I have used a Broquet Fuel catalyst on a range of modern petrol cars and diesel 4x4s. At MOT, mechanics have been astonished at how low emissions from my vehicle have been. There is also a definite increase in power and torque as evidenced by less need to change into a lower gear.

  Evening all, ran out of diesel on Tuesday, we put 2 gallons in, noticed and repaid chafted filter outlet pipe, and cracked injectors. Drove okay 23 miles back home. 9 hours later it wont start at all. On checking, wasn't getting fuel to the filter.

  My 1999 VW Sharan 110 bhp TDi (red i) has a misfire ('coughs' on acceleration). So far I have replaced/had tested the airmass meter; new injectors; new fuel filter; new battery; have had dismantled and tested the diesel fuel pump and as a last resort changed the fuel provider and used a fuel additive (the last being a suggestion of Honest John's). I am loathe to part with the car as it goes well otherwise - is there anything left for me to try or will I be coughing all the way to the dealer via the bank for a replacement?
