• 'Chipping' - more power = less fuel ? 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
  How's that done then ? Surely, if you up the power, the engine uses up more fuel. Looking at BR posts, especially with diesels, most people who have had their engine 'chipped' find the car uses LESS fuel. Any ideas ?

  As noted in the news section of the site, handy reductions on fuel prices, which have resulted in only 1p difference in the two fuels, currently in Kettering Diesel is 124.7 at Morrisons and Asda., last week i noticed Diesel at 154 at some MSA's. Handily i had a fuel voucher from last week's M grocery shop which i used filling up on the way home, so an extra 5 p off per litre, not a fortune saved but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

  I can live with a slight dent in the fuel tank as it still takes over 80 quid to fill it!! so the dent is not that big. My concern is if the fuel tank continues to shrink which i will recognise, but what about if it shrinks so quickly that the fuel cannot be sent to the engine - - i dont want to cut out on the motorway!!

  I am in the midst of a "Minimum Fuel Additive Level" situation now and the dealer's dignostic report has many faults including the Fuel Cap Sensor and Fuel Additive ECU. Since there are so many faults I suspect a wiring / connector problem.

  Throttle position sensor (TPS ), fine; Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, fine; engine temp sensor, fine; idle air control valve, fine and finally PCV not blocked. I have not changed the fuel filter but I would have thought a blockage would cause a lean condition. The fuel return is fine so no blockages. I took the fuel rail off and connected it to the fuel pump to see if the injectors were leaking; they were fine.
