  • Audi advert DT 12/7/06 13 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I was with somebody today who suddenley held up the Audi advert advert that appears on the first page of the Business Section of the Daily Telegraph, and commented that he thought that some readers will find it offensive. Without ' leading the witnessess' does anybody else hold this view? (Best viewed from a distance). I will explain later if anybody questions this. -- pmh (was peter)
  • Corsa stuttering !! 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Wifes 97(P) Corsa seems to stutter (like your taking your foot on and off the accelerator) when you hit about 60mph, it also does'nt seem to be nippy through the gears. It had a service about a month ago, so the plugs are OK, and I changed the HT leads the other day as they were arking (Defo thought this was the problem) Any thoughts.............. I've also put in a bottle of STP fuel/injector cleaner

  • miracle cure for black smoke on ebay? 26 Feb 2006 (Forum)
just seen this "miracle cure" for black smoke from diesels on ebay, its all very hush hush, which leads me to think its probably a rip off. However its got some pretty good feedback and its only a fiver. Anyone had any experience of this.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRANSIT-RANGER-FREDA-ESCORT-DIESEL-BLACK-SMOKE_W0QQitemZ4615037114QQcategoryZ21654QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 35 4 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I was not stopped by the police, just got caught by a flash camera. Does anyone know what could that lead to? I know that a new legilslation will be enforced by 2007 but until then, what should I expect? Thanks, Cedric
  • General: how not to treat an autobox 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
With permission, I quote from a contributor to the MB Club forum: "A friend who worked for Borg Warner in the 1980s told me this afternoon that the majority of factory rebuilds were due to people topping up with gear oil instead of transmission fluid. The resulting black goo tended to cause the valve block to become obstructed, leading to rough shifts etc." I wonder how much of this is still going on.
  • Odometer versus speedo 25 Apr 2005 (Forum)
In another topic it was mentioned that a speedo could have up to 10% error (ie 70 mph is actually 63 mph), but not the other way round. This leads me to think about how accurate are the odometers. Are these 100% accurate or do these have a built in error of reading like the speedo. Could this mean a 70,000 mile reading is actually only 63,000 miles?
  • Steer clear of Manchester 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Excuse me if someone has picked up on this already but I couldn't believe my eyes when I read it. I've just got around to reading HJ's agony column in Saturday's Telegraph and he leads with some clown from Manchester who says he limits the use of the indicators in his Saab because he doesn't like the clicking noise they make. You couldn't make it up...
  • Fiesta XR2i dead engine? 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Have changed head gasket, radiator and thermostat housing. When i started it up , it sounds as if its only firing on 3 cylinders. Have checked all the HT leads and injectors and are all working fine. Do i need a new head? Any ideas? Thanks in advance
  • Another whose fault... 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Just witnessed an accident in the car park at the supermarket (I did the good citizen role and acted as a formal witness). The question is whose fault would it be? A road leads onto the car park. There are no giveway markings. I think Car A (on the road into the car park) was driving too fast. The accident was basically side of Car A driving into side of Car B (Which was already in the car park).
  • Recalls in the USA 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Some of the recalls in alpa /year order http://tinyurl.com/yunkh I find some entries a little surprising e.g. for Ferrari "Defect Summary: On certain vehicles, the wheel securing bolts or lug bolts may not have been manufactured properly. Consequence Summary: The affected bolts would break leading to a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash." Nicely put, even if only 27 cars are affected.
  • Fiesta. running probs 30 May 2004 (Forum)
My daughter has a Fiesta 1400cc 1992. which has the same problems as a previous author here, Starts, but misfires, and stalls, untill it has warmed up, even then sounds lumpy when idleing, ok when driving. When parked and idleing, there is a strong smell of gassy fumes from under the bonnet. Plugs and leads seem ok, could it be a pipe blocked from engine to air filter? Johnny.

  • Rover 416i ABS problem 31 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have cleaned the reluctor rings but the symptoms remain. Is there a code system for diagnosing faults of this nature. I wanted to check the sensor lead connection by the servo unit however it does not appear obvious how it comes apart. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  • LRP to be phased out. 3 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Lead Replacement Petrol to be phased out. http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/fuel/LRP.html "LRP now (mid 2002) accounts for only 2.7% of total fuel sales, and forecourt managers will increasingly be tempted to switch pumps to more profitable products.
  • Leaking diesel fuel injectors 20 Nov 2003 (Forum)
A straight answer to a straight question (?). Do leaking injectors lead to compression loss and presumably lower power output? This is a follow on question to an earlier query where my replacement engine 1905cc Citroen is an LS6 rather than a DB9, which is at least 10% less powerful.
  • Repair -How much would you expect to pay 24 Oct 2003 (Forum)
They have diagnosed problems with the inlet manifold gasket (which was letting in coolant as well as air), coil and HT leads. My question is how much would you say is a fair price for these repairs. My mechanics have quoted £225 - is that a fair figure?
  • VW Passat Problem 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
If I put my foot down the car will accelerate but not smoothly. I'm pretty sure it's not the turbo, to me it feels like the HT leads and sparks need replacing. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar problems
  • Fiat Uno (Again) Battery draining 11 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Took battery out as a "jump start" didn't work. Fuly charged battery with a charger. Refitted, but still not enough power. Used jump leads and got car started. Took for a run and turned off and on a few times. Went back to car today and nothing. Battery flat. Nothing was left on. All cells are OK. Battery gone???
  • spark plug noise 21 May 2003 (Forum)
When the engine is running I\'ve noticed a clicking sound coming from the engine, in the area of the plugs that I took out. Have I over tightened one of them or just not put the leads on correctly? The engine seems to drive fine no other problems. Any ideas?
