Any - Oldest original exhaust? 18 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Fortunately my indy was able to weld them back for a tenner and achieve yet another pass with no advisories (apart from the brake fluid, oil, coolant and belts ;-). I am amazed that a bog standard Ford exhaust can last so long. It doesn't seem long since the T**** vans were rattling around the counties with parts carefully engineered to expire about a month after the 3yr guarantee. -
vauxhall astravan 1.7 td ecotec 2005 - van turns over for ever before firing 4 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I have only had this van a week and starting it is taking longer and longer. Ive replaced the glow plugs, coolant sensor and just now the camshaft sensor. I have no engine management light on. The van has plenty of crank speed and sounds like its going to fire but doesnt. It can take a good few minutes to start. -
Ford fiesta flight - heater control valve 4 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I have watched your video on how to fit a new cooling valve but could you clarify something.....can I change this without having to drain the whole coolant system again? Thank you for the great vids and for your help. -
Mazda 3 - Temp gauge fluctuation 30 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Never had that before and cannot understand why. Is it something to do with my radiator or coolant? I'd rather sort this out before it causes problems. It was very cold today it that makes any difference. -
56 reg Peugeot 207 - 56 reg Peugeot 207 - Heater blows only cold air 14 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Radiator has enough coolant. Dipstick is OK. So no HGF. I have took the manual controls out. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Changing car 7 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi guys, we are considering changing my wife's troublesome Peugeot 207. Peugeot eventually cured the coolant loss problem of a couple of months ago but it has now developed a EMU problem that has got Peugeot baffled. Had a look at various car supermarkets and the choice has been reduced to a 1.2 SXi which are plentiful but without air con and a couple of 1.4's with aircon. -
astra design 53 plate - transmission / gear oil change 9 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Can any one advise on changing the gear oil in my astra, I have had trouble with the gears sticking and locking in 4th gear , we emptied the oil from underneath yesterday and it looked really bad, we think it has been contaminated by the coolant, which was a problem with these models. the oil was orangy brown so i guessed it hadnt been changed for quite some years as i bought it second hand. now its empty , or hopefully so, we are going to fill it again, if anyone knows how much oil has to go in or has any other comments that would be fantastic. -
MG ZT-T td 130 - Cooling system 21 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I have a 2005 MG ZT-T td 130 from new with 69,000 miles and until the last 3,000 or so the temperature guage has always read on the middle bar on the guage for all types of driving - Howver, once warm it tends to remain on the middle bar for normal driving but at motorway cruiing speed it dips to 1 bar below and remains consistant, moving back to the middle bar and never higher when back to slow speeds. Fuel consumption remains mid to high 40's and coolant level is correct with no leaks. This would appear to be logical but why the fluctuation after this time and should I be concerned ?! -
Ford Focus 2001 Ghia 1.6 - Juddering on the motorway 13 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The journey up was fine but on the way back the car juddered a few times. No loss of power or any other symptoms. Coolant temp was fine. I had my odb adaptor running at the same time.Once I slowed down a bit to about 55-60 it was fine. I think I know what the issue is but want some more opinions. I think its the coil pack as this may explain the rough idle. -
Mini one 1.4 2008 - Reset brake service indicator 27 Sep 2013 (Forum)
When the garage has tried to reset the brake service indicator - it simply stays at 1000 miles - I've also tried myself several times going through the reset procedure but the indicator still shows 1000 miles! The oild/rear brake/coolant/brake fluid have all been reset by the garage in the last couple of years as these have been done, but this has got them stumped as well. Is this a dealer only fix or is there a knack to this! -
Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia - X plate (2000) - Temperature gague in the red when driving at speed 19 Dec 2011 (Forum)
When you back off down to 50-60 mph, it falls back to about the 2/3rds point. The header tank is up to the max mark with coolant, and it does not appear to lose any fluid. It does not appear to overheat when sitting in traffic, so it seems puzzling. I thought it normally gets cooler at speed due to increase airflow? Any ideas what the cause might be, and should I be worried about it? -
Audi A3 - Replacement Oil Cooler.. Audi A3 8 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Another point is how much (roughly... ballpark figure) for a mechanic to take the old one out and install the new one? Also need to flush oil out of other parts of the engine (oil coolant tank etc...) Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Darrell -
1.3CDTi Combo van, 05 reg - Fixed water leak, now fuel leak - Injector pump? 17 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hubby's Combo causing problems again. Recent post about coolant loss, turned out to be a small hole in the thermostat housing, which is now fixed. Whilst van was in for that, the garage mentioned there is now a fuel leak. Looks like its coming from the base of the pump on the top right side of the head - assume this is the injector pump? -
Engine longevity 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I've got a 99 MkIV Golf 1.8T 20V on 110k motorway miles - & along the lines of a rec from HJ in 1999, I have changed the oil/filter every 5K with Halfords fully synth (and coolant, waterpump and belt every 50K). How long should or could this engine last? It was also used on passat,A3,A4,A6,TT, Leon,Skoda etc. - must be lots of them about - is the turbo fragile? Anyone experienced failures? -
Audi A4 1995 1.8 - Overheating problem 2 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Had a problem with my old Audi overheating. The temp just keeps rising and the water bubbles back into coolant header tank, not seeming to go into the radiator. I don't seem to be getting water or oil in the others hood! Now I had a friend replace the thermostat and said the old one was faulty but this is still happening. -
Merc E320 CDi - Water wetter or not? 8 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Regular readers (wonderful stuff All-Bran) will remember I tow a caravan with my car. When driving solo with it the coolant temp sits bang on 80 degrees, always has done. When towing the temperature rises to just under 90 degrees due to the extra load on the engine and transmission. I fitted a 12 row trans oil cooler in the offside front wing but it doesnt affect the temperature to any noticeable degree but I do have the peace of mind of an extra couple of litres of trans fluid in the system. -
Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 98 1.8 P0115 10 Feb 2010 (Forum)
EML came on a couple of weeks ago, so did the paperclip test and got P0115 fault code (temp sensor circuit malfunction). I fitted a new coolant temp sensor friday evening and the eml went away but came back approx 24 hrs later. Did the paperclip test again and got the same code. Is it possible the code needs wiping and all would be well?
