Ford Mondeo Mk4 2L Diesel - Unusual sound when braking 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi, For the past few days I have noticed an unusual sound when braking. It seems to come from the rear of the car, and my wife swears that it is only from the right side (although I'm not sure). When I start braking the sound is not there, but as I brake harder, the sound suddenly appears and then stops the moment I ease off the brake. -

Fiesta Brakes 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
My girlfriend has a 2000 X Fiesta Zetec with 25,000 mls on it. The brakes have always felt quite spongy but have always stopped well. She had to perform an emergency stop the other day and only just made it, she says that the brakes have been getting poorer. I took it out last night on a bit of deserted road and did lots of hard braking. -

Polo Rear Brakes 11 May 2004 (Forum)
G Plate 1.3 Polo Sport. My son tells me after he changed the rear wheel bearings that there were no automatic brake adjusters in the rear drums. Is that correct. The MkII golf had them and the later Polos 91/2 on. It appears, he says, to rely on the hand brake adustment to take up the wear. Regards Peter -
FIAT Panda - Brake Pad Shims Query 9 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Hi All In need of a bit of advice on brake pad shims, hoping someone can help me out. I started changing the front brake discs and pads yesterday evening on my Panda 1.2 Dynamic Dualogic as one disc is warped. I got to the point on the first wheel where I rotate the caliper down to hold the brake pads in place, but no matter what I did there was not enough space for the caliper to sit in it's correct position. -

Ford Focus groaning brakes 16 Oct 2005 (Forum)
When I got out, I could smell what I can only assume to be brakes! The car was left for a few hours and it had cooled down a lot by then. On the way home, I braked hard again (safely obviously) and couldn't replicate the sound. The brakes don't squeak and it wasn't all that long ago I had new discs and pads. -
Vauxhall Astra - Brake pad problem 7 Sep 2013 (Forum)
At the time of the service, the mileage was 13962. On 1st August, the car passed it's MOT but I was advised to get the rear brake pads replaced. I took it to Kwik Fit on 6th September for a brake inspection (I had only used my car on rare occasions since it's MOT) and they called me to say that the offside rear brake pad had worn away completely, as well as the brake disc. -

Volvo S80 Front Brakes 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I poured some water on it to cool it down. The next day i went back to the garage where the brake pads had been fitted. I explained exactly what happened to the guy. He rais the car up on the ramp and took the wheel off. Upon inspecting the brakes he said that the reason why this had happed was because he had only changed the brake pads and not the disks and since the brake pads were new and the disk was old, this sort of thing happens but there was nothing wrong with the brakes since they were working properly. -
