  We intend to keep the new car for a long time, probably as long as the Saab which has served the family for 9 years. I'm baffled as to how to finance the purchase, given the vast array of options on the market. The car will be mainly for family use, although SWMBO is Vat registered but doesn't do nearly enough mileage per annum to call it a company car.

  negative equity. what happens if, say, someone bought a car at £20K 6 months later trade in value is £15K but they still owe £16500 on finance. can they ring the finance company up and say... look i cant afford it anymore. i cant sell it for less than trade in. can i just hand the car back to you and forget about it? just wondering....

  So the finance company have rejected by claim. The agreement is non regulated so I cannot complain to FOS. They have pointed me towards the Finance and Leasing association but I am unsure if this is the right next step.

  The only reason I can think of the lack of interest in giving me a discount (not to suggest the staff weren't professional, polite and not at all pushy) is that I had no interest in finance and no part ex and my conservative guesses suggest that profit from these would dwarf the profit from the car. Is this common in garages? Are cars now just a tool to sell finance packages?

  Because i did not receive the money i was expecting, i have been left with a number of debts that i need to clear, so i thought of selling the car and paying off my debts which would make it easier for me to pay the car finance company every month, so essentially it becomes a loan rather than car finance. Im not sure of the legalities, but surely if i continue to pay the company as i would if i had the car that would be ok?

  Hi, I'm after some advice about finance as I'm trying to help out a friend. Car shop phoned my friend and told her that her car is in positive equity. The car has 2,000 left outstanding on it and their valuation is 5,000 although looking on autotrader I've seen these jukes on forecourts for 8,500 same age, same mileage.

  hi there, im new to this and really need some advice, thinking of buying a new suzuki jimmy jlx + and doing my home work, but still comning up with a couple of problems like are they bringing out a new model to replace the jimmy how do i find out, and they have offered me there finance at 6% but are there any hidden extras they are not telling me, the bank has offered me 8.8% and are saying no hidden extras, who do i go with what a headach. i have had a test drive and seens okay only doing this as i want to trade in my car for scrap and get the 2000 off price and want a cheap 4x4 with small engine {subject line amended}

  Would I be better to make the final payment myself then go to a dealer with my fully-paid-for car as a deposit OR just go sooner and let the dealer clear the finance and hopefully have a bit left towards a deposit on the next car and let them work it all out? Will I get a better price for my car if it is fully paid up or not? Thanks for any advice.

  Hi all I have recently purchased a Vauxhall Meriva from a car dealer on Finance however in hindsight I maybe shouldn't have as it is giving me a lot less money a month than I originally banked on for myself. Does anyone know if it is possible for me to give the car back to the company the finance is through and if so what the financial penalties are likely to be?

  And dont forget a lot of these people will be buying on finance over 4/5 years so when their car is esentially worthless they will still owe plenty on it. These places advertised on telly make me laugh, you are basically given a choice of two (awful) cars and bullied into buying one for well over book price with ludicrous finance charges to boot....

  Spotted a car on Cazoo I am interested in but to be safe I ran its details through Car Vertical and it flags up it has outstanding finance on it. The finance was only taken out in June this year for 6 months. I had an online chat with one of Cazoo's advisers and they assured me that they will pay off any finance due before the car is sold to a customer.

  Just wanted to let others know about a close call I just had off of Gumtree who was trying to sell a Mercedes A200 with outstanding finance on it, Luckily or unluckily however you look at it I wasted £20 on a HPI check before hand to discover this, when I questioned the seller about this he stated that he would continue to pay it off after I had paid for the car and that I had his 'word'.

  Bought a 62 plate focus 6 days ago but only just noticed that the mileage on the finance agreement is signiifcantly lower than the mileage when I picked the car up - around 500 less. The car was purchased thru a ford dealership via a 6000 mile options agreement. I was also assured that the car had had its first service and now checking the servcie book  it is down as being serviced more than 3 months ago with a mileage of more than 500 more than that on the finance agreement.

  I don't see any point in spending this amount of money when there is potentially only a couple of months to go and I don't wish to refinance the value of the balloon payment. In practice am I able to over pay my finance payments in order to hit 50% before November and thus hand the car back early or will Santander see what I am doing and block it in some way. Thanks Phil

  My question is -    what if any checks should I be undertaking apart from the usual document check -  the log book will follow as its ' Trade reg ' so I might not have anything apart from the broker's invoice.  Will an HPi type check reveal if any finance is outstanding on a car fresh off the boat,  does finance get registered immediately  ?  This is my main worry. Car will be a 12 Reg

  In June the original plate was transfered back to the Passat and in July the M80JBL plate, which is now on a Honda Civic VTEC that has outstanding finance? And if so can I get this alert removed from the Passat record?   Thanks
