    Looking like it had just won the Monte Carlo Rally, this 40k mile 98R John Cooper edition Mini really sparkled and, instead of dying at about £2,500, bid all the way to sell for an over book retail £3,850. “Where do you go with that?” asked one trader. And the answer had to be, unless you know someone who wants a really nice original Mini, you end up driving around in it.

With the 50th Anniversary of the Mini in 2009, new Mini events sprung up everywhere, but that didn't stop Mini World Action Day from being the biggest and best ever, proving the popularity of this well-established event.

  • Classic Mini ‘reborn’ for modern day driving 6 Apr 2017 (News)
    A British coachbuilder is launching a revised version of the classic Mini that promises to keep all of its charm but is better suited for modern day motoring. Silverstone-based David Brown will take a classic Mini and turn it into a modern city car, softening its classic lines, improving the engine, and adding in a host modern conveniences like keyless entry, Apple CarPlay… and a cup holder.
  • Mini motorists welcome at museum 7 Feb 2018 (News)
    The British Motor Museum is to hold a series of Mini Motorists events this year. The activity days are aimed children under five and have proved a huge hit with younger enthusiasts. They take place on a regular monthly basis and are held on Mondays. There’s no need to book – just turn up at the Gaydon-based museum between 10.30am and 12pm and help your little person discover the fun of four wheels. Monthly activitie vary but often include story-telling, crafts, automotive Duplo, playtime with toy cars, cars to sit in, dressing up and sing-a-longs.
  • Classics gear up for the BMC show 31 May 2017 (News)
    Displays will include passenger cars, plus commercial and military vehicles. Expect to see everything from a Mini and Morris Minor through to the Rover 800s, Montegos and Maestros. There will be a non Mini Concours event, which visitors can enter on the day. In addition, there will be the traditional Cowley convoy from BMW Mini Cowley and a Longbridge Convoy from MG Longbridge - both arriving at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, in the morning.

    Mitsubishi has announced SE versions of its Space Star 1.3 and 1.8 litre mini MPV with extra equipment for no extra cost.     Barrie continued to use the Mini for the next two seasons, competing in major rallies both in the British Isles and abroad. In 1965 Barrie sold the Mini to a friend, who in turned sold it to another friend. Some years later an opportunity arose for Barrie to buy back 120 MNP, which he did and restored the car back to the 1964 Welsh Rally specification sourcing and using original components.

    Styling touches on this one include peaked chromed headlamp rims, borrowed from a Riley 1.5, Aston Martin DB6 leather seats, Piper electric windows, and Rolls Royce chrome handles. It really is a mini-luxury car. Historics is selling the car with tools, Hydrolastic suspension pump, an MoT test certificate, valid until October 2014 and Historic road fund licence until September 2014. It will be interesting to see what this one goes for - no-reserve certainly doesn't mean it's going to be a bargain, as it has both showbiz connections, and bespoke interest for both Mini and Wood & Pickett fans.

    Rock legend AC/DC's Bryan Johnson is to race the Mini Cooper from 'Cars That Rock' at Croft Nostalgia Weekend on 2nd/3rd August. Bryan, from Dunston near Gateshead, used to go to Croft with his mates to watch the racing in the 1960s.
  • 1966 Mini Cooper 1275S Makes £31,000 at Historics 3 Sep 2015 (News)
    The 1966 Morris Mini Cooper 1275S  was one of 119 classic cars in the sale dating from 1929. Pending after sale deals, the sale ratio was 69% on the day. Early Porsche 911s remainds on the pace with a professional nut and bolt rebuild, a pristine white 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Sport Targa sold over its top estimate at £103,000.
  • British classics lead the way at NEC Classic Motor Show auction 16 Nov 2014 (News)
    The Mini was part of a large number of British cars passing the auction block, with Coopers and E-types beating their respective estimates. A wonderful 1954 XK120 3.4 Special also raised the bar, selling for £46,000.  Another highlight of the sale was a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabrio that sold for £195,000.

    There’ll be tributes to the Jaguar E-type, celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and to another 50-year-old, the Mini Cooper. “We have reserved some Showground places for unusual Minis and Jaguars. If anyone has a Mini-based special, such as a Unipower GT or Mini Marcos, we’d love to hear from them. We would also like more Minis once owned by somebody famous – a Beatle or Peter Sellers perhaps – or a Cooper or E-type with a competition or interesting history,” said Verdon-Roe.

    Bids for this black 54k mile 2001/51 reg MINI One kicked off at £4,000. So cheap it wrong-footed the floor with the thought there must be something wrong with it. But there wasn’t. It had leather, alloys, rev counter and aircon and even at the £6,600 it was finally knocked down for it still looked cheap compared to the £8,400 paid half an hour earlier for a 34k mile 2001/51 MINI Cooper.

    Visitors will be able to see a huge range of vehicles, including classic cars, commercial and military – all produced under the BMC marque. As well as the cars on display, there is also an autojumble, trade stands, and a Mini concours event. There will also be two organised convoys to the show from the BMW Mini plant at Cowley and MG Longbridge. Tom Caren, show manager, said, ‘This nostalgic show is now in its fourth year and continues to grow in popularity with this year’s event predicted to be even bigger than before.
