  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2000 2.0 110 BHP HDI Air Pollution Fault 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Engine switched off - over run returns again Restart engine - air pollution error back. Bosch Diagnostics computer shows following: 0100 error - mass air flow & 1138 (something to do with rail sensor??) Reset faults - engine runs idle fine, revs normal and running good.
  • Omega running costs 11 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Dunno, but I'm open to suggestions. Am I overstating or understating it? So, it seems to me like I've got a total running cost of £12,849, or 25.5p per mile. I think that's pretty good value for the old beast, and not bad for a big cruiser that has been reliable bar the camshaft sensor going. According to my computer in the car, I've spent 1,227 hours with the engine running (33 working weeks!)
  • Dacia Duster - Which engine (turbo, non-turbo) for short runs? 18 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Or a diesel. Apparently while most diesels are also bad for short runs, the Dacia is ok. But I've never had a diesel and would prefer not to if possible. - Occasionally I'll want to load the back of the car with branches and logs for firewood. Would the 1L cope?
  • Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - Running problems - white smoke and no power 23 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I had times when it would run ok for a mile or so and then suddenly lose power an limp everywhere again. During this time there were no warning lights on the dash which i found odd, then a week ago the car suddenly started to stall every few miles.
  • Ford C-Max 1.6 Petrol Year 2008 - Intermittent rough running / cutting out with EML 5 Nov 2017 (Forum)
The yellow engine management light was also not showing. The car ran perfect the rest of the way home and has run OK today.  The last time I owned a petrol car they had distributer caps and condensers so I’m a bit out of touch with modern petrol cars but with DPF’s on modern diesels  and only doing about 7000 miles a year thought petrol was the way to go.
  • SUV/MPV - Most economic option? 26 Nov 2016 (Forum)
My mileage has recently increased (well, in the last 6 months) to over 20k per year with most of them being weekly runs to the Lakes; a weekly journey of just over 200 miles round trip. In addition I have normal commute etc mileage during the week plus some other longer motorway runs twice weekly. I currently run a Toyota RAV4 2.2 D-CAT Auto which I love in every other respect than the running costs.
  • 1995 Peugeot 405 1.8 petrol Manuel. - Car running hot 15 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 405 that's running a little hot, the heating has never worked. on Monday I noticed it was running at 110'c. I then ordered a thermostat and heater matrix. Flushed the system and fitted the new thermostat which made no difference.
  • Toyota Avensis - 1.8 V-Matic thoughts/opinions 21 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Also, does adding an auto box increase maintenance/possible problems.  I'm hoping to get this next car to maybe 150K miles (over 9 years) - and run it 'till it won't run no more!  Is this a realistic expectation (especially with an auto)? Budget of £8K (hoping for maybe 2009-2010 with 30K or so miles) - Toyota Approved if possible.
  • Renault Clio II - Renault Clio misfire and low compression 22 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have also noticed the car heats up really quickly and the fan does not seem to switch on no matter how long the car is running, but the temperature gauge only goes to about half way! I am running out of idea's as I am more used to older cars, but the only things I can think of is Temperature Sensor, Lambda Sensor, a sticky or burnt valve, a crack in the head or an air leak somewhere.
  • Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.4 (8v) Failure to start after running fine - 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It didn't seem to pick up cleanly from idle, and the mechanic thought it sounded as though it was running rich. I have recently changed the oil and filter plus new spark plugs 6 weeks ago. It's done about 5000 since the air filter has been replaced. He suggested that perhaps one of the engine management sensors (e.g.
  • Zut Alors - 306 rain gutter rust 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
inside and out even down to door jambs and engine bay, and is a complete hoot to hustle along a twisty and bumpy B road. It is also totally reliable and costs buttons to run, so run it we probably will for a few years yet. But, horror of horrors... Having waxed lyrical about how totally rust free this car is, I read the other day that they are susceptible to rust of the rain gutter that runs across the top of the door apertures.

  • Vauxhall Corsa E - Cleaning the throttle body 8 Feb 2025 (Forum)
We have a 2015 Corsa E with the 90bhp 1.4 petrol engine.  Tedious car but it costs us peanuts to run, and it has heated seats & steering wheel which seem to be very expensive extras on any new car these days. The car has 75,000 miles up and was running OK, apart from an irritating fluffiness / slight stumble just off idle rpm.
  • Kia Niro 2018/68 - Fuel Consumtion of PHEV 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
We do approx 10000 mpy and our crude overall consumption is 90 mpg. On long distance journies, I start off with a full battery (36 mile indicated) and run on pure electric for the first 15-20 miles. I then switch to HEV mode, move the gear lever to 'sport' which enables me to use 6th gear pretty much the whole time whilst on the motorway. On normal (flattish) motorwars, with the aircon on the car automatically recharges the battery at the rate of up to 1 mile per 10 run.
  • Smart Motorways?!?! 25 Jun 2020 (Forum)
So much for the efficiency of our smart motorway network camera coverage and rapid response. Yesterday, Saturday, M6 south just below jct 13 4 lane running no warnings, car stopped presumably broken down on live left lane. Today, Sunday, M1 south around jct 29 4 lane running, no warnings, car stopped presumably broken down on live left lane. Dunno about you lot but i'm unsure about these so called smart motorways and thgink the dangers outweigh the benefits, very happy with the 4 lane section M1 between Nottm and Mansfield and some of the newer M25 sections, just as they should be 4 permanent running lanes and a good wide hard shoulder for emergencies..fortunately both days very few lorries on the road, good visibility dry conditions, that brings to 7 now the memorable stopped unwarned of vehicles i've come across on fast moving smart motorways, all the rest have been in the west mids section at busy times in dangerous stretches.
