Insurance for Athiests 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Watching the Welsh news this morning they had an item about a mini tornado which struck a village whose name escapes me. One guy being interviewed said the families cars had suffered about £15000 worth of damage between them, but the insurance company was already starting to mutter about Acts of God, which are excluded from cover. So is it possible to actually insure your car against natural disasters, storms, floods etc, and how do you go about adding it to your policy? -
Do any of you lease your car? 9 May 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, After a long struggle with an unreliable passat, I have now decided to lease a car to help reduce unexpected bills. I need a 30,000 miles a year lease over two years so that I am covered by the manufacturers warranty. I have looked at several lease companies and understand the format for leasing a car, but was hoping I could get some real life leasing experiences from the back room. -
Fiat Panda 1000 1990 9 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I've bought a 1990 Panda 1000 for my daughter as her first car, as it's appeared a number of times in HJ's column as a reasonable starter car. One job I think needs doing is replacing a rubber cover on the top of the OSF shock absorber. I believe this also acts as a bump stop? -
someone's pranged my car 16 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Yesterday someone low-speed bumped my car whilst it was parked outside my house, causing significant damage to the rear bumper (colour coded etc.). They got out of their car, inspected the damage and then drove off. My neighbour got their reg. number, swept up their broken glass etc. -
VW GOLF MK6 1.6TDI - VW Warranty Woes 29 Apr 2017 (Forum)
This is reflected on my order form for the car and other documents I received with the car. This month the car began going into limp mode and I had it diagnosed elsewhere that the EGR Valve needed replacing (mileage at 98,000). As I was aware my warranty expired in Dec 2016 I paid out of my own pocket for the repair at a local independent garage totalling £551.79! -
Renault Clio - Rear windscreen heater damaged during car service 4 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I took my car for a Gold Service which included a valet. When I went to collect it, the car was barely hoovered. The guy who brought the car over to me, kept thrusting the key in my hand hoping I would drive off. -
Vauxhall Astra - Is it a ruined head gasket..? If so, advice please 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
But I'm expecting the worst. My question is, apparently the car comes with a 3 month warranty, if so will this cover head gasket problems? I can't see the head gasket breaking within the 1 day or so that I had the car. I only drove it no more than 2 miles up the road to discover that there was no coolant in the engine. -
VW Golf 1.4FSi - Mechanic covered up serious problem! 11 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Before the car went for its MOT, both the ABS and ESP warning lights were illuminated on the dash and through a little internet research I discovered it could be an issue with the cars ABS pump. Now the mechanic uses an MOT testing station minutes from his garage, and after checking the car over took it for the MOT which it passed (no advisories). -
BMW 3 Series E46 - Day insure or full policy and cancel, test driving 6 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Evening, Looking at a car tomorrow so need insurance, if all goes well I will need to get train next week to go get it. Two lots of day insurance is more than one month of a full policy. So, is it ok to take the full policy out and cancel it if tomorrow doesn't go well, and on the bright side if it does go well I'm covered for 12 months? -

Fuel Consumption at 85-90MPH 9 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, I drive long distances daily on the motorway at about 85-90MPH. I cover about 35k per year. I currently drive a 2008 VW passat 2.0TDI. Costs about £70-£75 to fill up and I achieve about 600 miles. Looking at official mpg figures I could get a similar sized car with greatly improved mpg. -
Aquaplaning 16 Feb 2016 (Forum)
One of my friends told me that he had been travelling to Wales on the motorway every weekend this winter. With the frequent heavy rain the motorway was covered with standing water so he was driving in the nearside lane at 50 or so mph to avoid aquaplaning. He remarked that he was passed frequently by cars doing in excess of 70 mph. If the drivers had to brake or change direction they would cause chaos, if not loss of life. -
Mitsubishi Outlander 2007 2.2 - Loss of power 10 Jun 2015 (Forum)

vectra vvti 1800 2007 - noisey tapets 30 Dec 2014 (Forum)
My vectra has a noise coming from under the bonet that sounds like noisey taper, although I've got no idea what the noise really is. It doesn't get any better when warm. Cars done 50k with full service history. The dealer did oil and filter change when I bought it 6 months so the oil is new and only 3k covered since. I will take it to my garage in the morning but some prior knowledge is alwayhelpful to save me getting ripped off. -

There is also the same steam coming from the back of the engine cover and a grim smell. The car isn't overheating though Anyone have any ideas what this could be? thanks -
