  • technical one... 30 Aug 2001 (Forum)
the car is a '97 fiesta with 40k on the clock, hence front wheel drive and i'm suspecting play in the front bushes, which are then affecting the geometry of the car depending on the load being placed on the components.
  • Ford Focus brake pad wear indicator? 1 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether a 4 year old Focus has a warning light (or possibly audible warning) for front pad wear? Reason for asking is that my Sister-in-Law's car failed it's MOT allegedly for worn front brake pads. The Ford dealer insisted that the pads would need replacing for the car to pass the MOT.
  • My new Skoda Superb Estate's Front Assist feature won't work - should Skoda fix it under warranty? 10 Nov 2017 (Ask HJ)

  • Weight distribution - - not just front /back but side to side? 14 May 2021 (Forum)
Much theoretical attention is given to the design and fine tuning of a car's weight distribution and suspension.  Considering that most cars have only one occupant for most of its mileage, is any allowance made for the unbalancing effect of a body weight of around 75kg  on one side of the car?
  • Safety features 17 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Recently, she wrote, a bird flew in front of her car when she was travelling at speed and the car applied the brakes in an emergency manner.  She asked what would have happened if there had been a lorry following her.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Wheel alignment question 24 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Can wheel alignment be done if the car has different size tryes on the front and back? I have 2 * 195/65 R15 on the front and 2 * 185/65 r15 on the back. Cheers
  • Squeaky Ka: normal? 7 May 2010 (Forum)
There is a sound like rubber being rubbed against something, and it is most noticeable when going slowly in a car park. Is this normal? It originates from the front, probably near the front wheels. It was recently serviced.

The wiring is apparently all there but you have to cut into the carpet type material at the bottom of the door. The car is a Honda Prelude. Thanks. Mikey

  • MOT Test and Seats 14 May 2007 (Forum)
Do you have to have a front passenger seat fitted to a car in order for it to pass the test? The frame on the front passenger seat of a friend's car is broken and therefore, I would guess, is an MoT fail. If he were to remove the seat altogether, would it be a failure?
  • Volvo V70 D5 2005/6 - cigarette lighter front and arm rest 23 Mar 2021 (Forum)
This I know because the cool box stays on with the engine off. So far have checked out all the fuses I can find on the car. Just now I wanted to see if it was easy to remove the front lighter socket by placing my finger in to see if it would pull out;  A tone sound was coming from the front driver side door speaker each time I put pressure on the wall of the lighter socket with the ignition off and the key out of the ignition.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2005 2.0 tdci - Front Brake Discs 14 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My 55 reg car is in today for its first MOT and while there I have asked them to service it. After its last service I was told that the pads on the back only had a couple of thousand miles left in them while the ones on the front were better for a bit more.
  • Front tyre wear Mondeo mk2 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The Mondeo is coming up due for a new set of front boots, but I'm a little concerned over the wear pattern of the existing ones. The front tyres are Falken ZE512's and have covered just under 20,000 miles. The main part of the tread is down to around 3mm, but the tread within 2cm or so of both inner and outer edges of both front tyres is almost gone.
  • Replacing a tyre (or should I do both?) 24 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, Bit of a dilema. A while back I noticed that my front right tyre seemed to have worn more than the left and made a note to keep my eye on it. (Plenty of life left on it). However, twice today, the car has momentarily scrabbled for grip at the front.
  • Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe - Tyre wear: advice please 13 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Good evening I have owned a good number of cars in my time and apart from a couple of vintage ones, each one has been  front wheel drive where the necessity to replace tyres (through wear) has been that of approx 3 front to 1 rear. I assume that the reason for this is that the front wheels are both pulling the mass weight and also turning the vehicle also -  both actions thus creating wear and tear.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 Zetec Front Suspension Noise 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Is anybody are of a common issue with the front suspension of the Focus? A friend of mine who has a different make of car has replaced the suspension drop links to resolve a similar issue. Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance.
  • 97 Pug 406 DT front coil spring failure 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I arrived home last night from a weekend away to find our faithful 406 (1 owner, 116,000 miles, MOT'd late November) sitting on the driveway collapsed on the front right with a broken coil spring. The car is undrivable and I shudder to think what would have happened if it had failed on the motorway. Does anyone this be due to speed bumps as my missus goes over a few of them in the course of her day as a physio doing home visits?
  • Mixing tyre brands 20 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Hi All, I'd like a bit of advice on tyre safety. My wife's company car has just had a front tyre replaced. As a result it now has a pair of 2 year old Dunlops on the back and 1 band new Dunlop on the front alongside a 7 year old Goodyear. All are 185/60R14. I was astounded that the lease company would not fork out for a matching pair on the front for obvious reasons of safety.

  • Peugeot 306 HDi - Knocking noise at front of car 17 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have a V reg 306 diesel. Which runs really well.  However the car has developed a knock which appears to come from the front drivers side in the area near to the front wheel. The knock is not ever present. It does not happen whilst driving in a straight line and does not happen when driving over bumps or generally over bumpy ground.
