My Peugeot 406's front suspension is too high after a repair - is there something wrong with it?

The front suspension on my 2003 Peugeot 406 HDI 90hp collapsed on the passenger side of the car whilst on holiday. I got a local garage to replace the coil springs and struts/shock absorbers on both sides of the car. However there is now a noticeable gap between the tyre and wheel arch, about four inches on the off side and about 4.5 inches on near side. The garage are telling me that the suspension will have to "bed in" and that the car should start to lower in a couple of weeks of driving the car. I bumped into the AA man who towed the car to the garage & he was surprised at how "high" the car is after the repair.

I have checked the part numbers for the springs and shock absorbers on the manufacturer's website, KYB Europe, and they correspond with the model and age of the car. They have fitted twin tube gas pressure struts. Just wondering why there should be such a gap between tyre and wheel arch?

There's something wrong here. Wrong springs or wrong struts.
