Happy New Year from New Zealand 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Local past-time seems to be running over possums at night... Good news is... diesel at 45p/litre and petrol around 60p, and this in a country which has to import all its oil! And more amazingly, the pump prices have fallen by around 45% since the summer oil peak! How much have our UK prices gone down by? 10-15% tops? What a con! Makes you realise just how much $$$ our darling UK Government makes off us at the pumps! -
Winning an argument over speed cameras 25 Dec 2008 (Forum)
His air of superciliousness and self-satisfied smirk were annoying to say the least. Think of Norris in Corrie or maybe a self-important traffic warden. He really wound me up. He won't do it again though because I killed him. -
I have started to cycle 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
(Thread headline changed so Backroomers know what it's about without having to enter the thread) Much as I loath it, I have started to cycle places - Im taking my car for a service/MOT later and im cycling the 5 miles home. I can see it will become increasingly important to be 'bike fit' now ( which Im not ) so im biting the bullet early and getting into shape so I can stop using the car. I used to be able to cycle 40 miles 8 years ago but have since lost the fitness. -
well done lady texter! 22 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I shot off and she stayed in the o/s lane texting as people flashed her and undertook her obviously still doing 45. Later overtook me, and guess what...another obviously really important text to send/receive in outside lane. Quite why her pax didn't text for her....or punch her in side of head for being so crass I don't know. But anyway, well done you stupid anti-social cow and an accident waiting to happen. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace II (2008 - ) - HJ's road test has arrived! 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
HJ's long awaited (at least if you are a Berlingo enthusiast) road test of the new Berlingo has arrived. In fact, this event is soooooooo important, that I thought it was worth starting a new thread, rather than posting yet another post on mlj's thread. I was somewhat surprised at the comment "So instead of being quite good for a van, it actually is car-like to drive with a fine blend of ride and handling that belie its utilitarian looks." -
Toyota - 10th Generation Corolla - Not in the UK - WHY? 18 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Why oh why have Toyota UK let us down. I really like the car, and am ready to downsize, but just cant get one in the UK. Do I import? Also the 6th generation Camry is out. Do we have it here. Do we heck. And to think that you can get a Hybrid new in the US for £14k. We are being ripped off here again, and the £ is so strong against the us $ . -
Ford Granada/Scorpio (1985 - 1998) - Curious about what I didn't buy 6 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Condition was OK for a 20 year old car, though I noticed the leather seats hadn't worn well. As reluctant as I am to buy imports, this one had a certain flair about it that really interested me, likely because Merkurs were such a rare bird here. It's still sitting on the lot, BTW--anyone want it? Thanks. -
BMW 3 Series Touring 3 Jun 2007 (Forum)
For example, if I get a newer, high mileage example to reduce the cost, could I expect reasonable service from it for the above period, whilst at the same time driving a good quality and capable vehicle that has already suffered a great deal of its depreciation in somebody else?s hands. The image/status/prestige isn't that important but service and quality is, hence looking at what I think would be a 'hard wearing' car. -
leasing and options 1 May 2007 (Forum)
i would have thought the first four were beneficial and the last three are because i want them - always said if i bought a car it would have heated seats and i want a sunroof again. Great on a summers evening. Blinds being the least important. i might have to revise my options list. -
Should I buy a 4X4 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
( for £6500) I thought a Freelander TD4 - but seem to have reliability problems A shogin pinin seems not to have a good towing ability I do like to drive quite quickly but acceleration is more important than top speed, I have to admit for a little bit of boy racer.... so like alloys, side steps etc ! mpg is obviouly and issue, but I don't mind fuel type The mazda has cost me nothing to keep on the road, am I opening myself to big bills with a 4x4? -
Obtaining missing service history? 18 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The car's value is minimal and I'm not looking for a fast buck - it's a keeper for DIY/tip duties so to this end I've already serviced it and changed the all-important cambelt and tensioner - but it would be nice to know what else has been done in it's 125,000 miles... -
Car insurance - your opinions sought 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Do you stick with the same company year after year or always look for the best deal? What is most important to you - lowest price or level of cover? What would be the best way of buying car insurance in your opinion? Any suggestions appreciated! Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. -

Oil filter leaking? Escort 1.3 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I'm going to get a new filter (and gallon of oil!) tomorrow or sometime but I'm just wondering how important the cleanliness of the oil filter mating surfaces need to be? I say this because I was a bit slap happy when screwing the new one on and didn't wipe the old oil off first. Do you think this is what's caused the leak? -
Classic bad driving 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I doubt any of them had any idea of the danger they , and other road-users had been exposed to . After all, driving is just what we do between the important bits of the day -
75000 mile Type-S, what needs doing? 7 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I'm now the proud owner of a Jap import Prelude Type-S (the 220bhp monster jobby). For a six year old car that's done 75000 miles it's in absolutely gorgeous condition, and the engine is amazingly sweet. (Revs out to 8000rpm without missing a beat.) -
Forum search 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Have fun Oh, and BTW, if you see a big difference between numbers of posts for a particular person and that shown in their profile, it's because the archive forum uses their name as a text string - it came from the old open source phorum data imported, whilst the profile uses the user id in the newer posts of this software. ---------------------------------- Stephen Khoo http://www.khoosys.net -
Moron councils ... 25 May 2003 (Forum)
Today, you may have noticed, is Sunday. This is an important day of the week for our local council, as it is the only day they can get out onto the roads, and pick up the rubbish, dead dogs, change blown lightbulbs on streetlamps etc. However, today it is also persisting down with rain here, and we have an satanic black-overcast at about 200 feet, as well as patchy ground mist. -
The Government and traffic 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
At the same time, Traffic Officers have fallen by 8%, with the Met losing a quarter. Bob Ainsworth, Home Office Minister, said: " The importance given to traffic policing should not be measured solely by the number of dedicated traffic officers, and does not depend on increases or decreases in the number of such officers." A campaign at the same time found that two thirds of all vehicles stopped on the M25 were defective. -
Women Drivers 26 Apr 2002 (Forum)
In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car using my knees against the steering wheel, it knocked my cell phone away from my ear which fell into the coffee between my legs, splashed and burned my thighs, stained the seat, ruined the darn phone and DISCONNECTED AN IMPORTANT CALL!!!!!!! Darn women drivers!
