  • Diesel benefits for low mileage user 26 Jan 2018 (Forum)
My point is there are a lot of people who say you must do 20k for a diesel. I disagree my wife does around 8000 miles a year mixture of school run and a weekly run of 60 mile journey. Her average mpg in the fiat was 31.2 she is now averaging 52.2. That is a huge saving in fuel, (she is paying &20 instead of &140 in tax and the car works out at no more a month for her.

  • Volkswagen Passat B5 1.8T 2003 - Climatronic problem 25 Jul 2016 (Forum)
It also does the same thing when set to 'Low', which sort of rules out the interior temp sensor. You can hear the hot/cold servo motor running as the temp goes up and down, so something must be telling it do this!. Checked the error codes, but nothing logged. It also appears worse when around town, better when on a steady run. Any ideas anyone?
  • Ford sierra - Webber tick over too fast 13 Jun 2016 (Forum)
The throttle lever can be pushed back on to the throttle stop to reduce rpm to 900. When the engine is not running the lever rests on the throttle stop but as soon as the engine is running again the lever will not return to the stop unless pushed. The auto choke is working as the butterfly valve opens as the engine warms.
  • Porsche Boxster 981 - Air con maintenance in a convertible 21 May 2016 (Forum)
The car will be used only in dry weather, almost always with the top down.  I understand that air conditioning needs to be run regularly to stop the seals drying out, but I'm unsure as to whether it would do any harm to run it when the top is down.  In other words, would the climate control be overworked trying to achieve the set temperature and de-humidifying the air in the open?
  • Porsche Boxster 2008 - Service due warning 1 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The garage had serviced the car and told me that it would not need doing for two years. The car was in storage since last October and was run occaisionly. Unfortunately when I went to start it this morning the battery was very low and needed a jump start to get the engine running. The car is great except that every time I put the ignition on it warns me that it needs a service now.
  • Mitsubishi Shogun - Brake problem 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I have bled both of the rear wheels and the bleed valve on top of the rear brake limiting valve.  The problem now is that when the engine is not running the pedal feels firm but with the engine running the pedal feels firm but if I continue to press on it then it slowly sinks about half an inch.  I have failed to find any leaks either on the replaced pipe or the three bleed valves and the level of fluid in the resevoir is not falling.

  • charging circuit fault - Land Rover 90 9 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Good evening, I fitted a new battery and alternator to my son's Land Rover 90 a couple of weeks ago. All seemed fine, 12.6v with no ignition on, 14.4v with the engine running. Fine since then until this morning when it wouldn't start due to a low battery. Once we jump started it I tested the voltage: Battery 12.3v with the engine running at tickover, and if the revs were increased then the battery voltage dropped to below 12v.
  • Nissan Sunny 1.4 16v - 1991/1992 nissan sunny 7 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Im a mechanic living in Portugal and looking after a nissan sunny for a friend. It has          running problems, the car, when cold runs fine but when it gets warm it sometimes wont start straight away and the driver says there is a bad smell of fuel. I changed engine temp sensor, ignition coil, spark plugs and that worked for a few days but now its back to as it was before..

  • I did 456 miles today 25 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Managed motorways such as the M42 are all well and good, but when its bumper to bumper with a 40 limit, yet hard shoulder running is not permitted thereby reducing capacity, what is the point in spending the money on the system to permit hard shoulder running?! I was happy to get 46mpg over the trip.
  • 2003 Ford Focus 1.8 TDDI - Crank position sensor 30 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Q1 Unable to find a cam position sensor, is one really fitted on the tddi ?. Q2 I fitted a new crank sensor and engine would only run for 2 seconds. Refitted the old one and it still only runs for 2 seconds. Does this ound like a wiring error or a stored fault code ?.
  • citroen c crosser - fuel pressure 4 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Took it to garage who diagnosed fuel pressure low with their plug in device. However when checked the fuel pressure was reading ok. Took it on a run and went no problems. Ran ok for a week and now ECU light back on with same diagnosis reset again but when took it out on a run this time when on an incline car cuts out. ? cause. Would changing diesel fuel filter make any difference or could it be the fuel pump?
  • Vauxhall Zafira B (58 Plate) - Vauxhall Zafira - No Spare Wheel 8 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Instead it has an airpump and cartridge of tyre sealant which is blown into the tyre in the event of a puncture. I do not think the car is running on run flats at the moment, so with the MOT coming up, is the garage likely to fail the car for having no spare wheel? Am I required to put runflats on the car? Thanks for any advice.

  • Vauxhall Zafira A - Vauxhall Zafira - intermittent starting problem 3 Jun 2012 (Forum)
[endif]--> We have a petrol driven 2003 Vauxhall Zafira that has started to have an intermittent starting problem.  What happens is that sometimes there is no problem in starting and running, while at other times it fails to start (it does turn over), and if it does catch it sounds like it is running on 2 or 3 cylinders, and stalls when any load is placed on it.  It has been into a garage twice, once to replace the throttle unit, and once to clear out some air intakes, but still the problem persists.

  • Ford Mondeo - Mondeo tdci 2006 hot starting problem 3 Sep 2011 (Forum)
My 2006 Mondeo tdci - 74k - has a warm/hot starting problem but starts and runs perfectly when cold. However when warm/hot on turning the engine it fires as if on one cylinder, makes a heavy knocking (external as distinct from within engine - maybe exhaust) rev counter barely registers but after about 5 seconds the engine picks up and then runs normally.
