Subaru Forester, Nissan X trail - What is more fuel efficient, awd or 4wd? 31 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Im thinking of buying a car when i head out to Canada, and ill be mostly on a mountainous ski resort so a 4wd/awd is beneficial. Firstly, as a general question, what tends to be more fuel efficient out of a constant AWD like subaru and a 4WD where the driver can choose between between the 2 sets of axels? Obviously all other things being equal like engine size, transmission etc. Secondly, what is the better choice out of a 2004-2005 Subie Forester X 2.5 auto petrol and a 2005 Nissan X-trail again 2.5 auto petrol, in terms of fuel economy and general preference? -
Ford Mondeo III LX strange power loss - Strange power loss!! 11 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I recently purchased a 04 Ford Mondeo LX 1.8. While driving on the motorway i have noticed that when the fuel gauge gets to a quarter tank the car starts to loose power and splutter forcing me down the gears to a final stop. Fill up with fuel and the problem dissapears? No error codes reported? -
Peugeot 306 - Help with poor fuel economy on 306 hdi 16 Mar 2011 (Forum)
took my car in for a diagnostic and had a new battery, MAF sensor and fuel pressure regulator. The car feels better than ever to drive, nice and smooth and feel like some of the power is back. However, i usually got around 600-650 from a tank so I averaged 45mpg. -
Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 04 2.2 Fuel gauge problem 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
My Astra (Coupe 2.2 Auto 2004) fuel gauge is playing up and I need some help please. When I fill up the gauge shows full and it appears to work fine when I'm driving around locally. If I go on a journey after a while the fuel gauge will show FULL. -
KIA Sedona - One squirt from the injectors then it stops 11 May 2010 (Forum)
It did but once we had reconnected it, it would no longer spray as before. If we bleed the fuel pipe so that we have fuel to the top of the injector then we turn the engine over and get one large spray and no more. Can anyone help please? Thank you -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Cool Engine rough running high fuel consump 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I bought this Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8V LS recently and discovered that it is running very roung and the temperature guage normally stays below the starting marks and only goes up when stuck in traffic but comes back as soon as it is out of the traffic. In addition to this I noticed the fuel consumption is too high and the exhaust emissions are highier than normal. I get the timming belt and water pump changed as they were due. It improved the situation but it is still running slightly rough and the fuel consumption is too high as compared to my previous cars. -
Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 01 1600 Difficulty starting / fuel filler cap? (pe 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Often several stabs of the throttle to the floor will eventually get it going & so far it has always started in the end. Thinking this might be fuel related, I undid the fuel filler cap the other day and heard a quite forceful rush of air following which the car started immediately. Since then I have got in to the habit of undoing the filler cap after journeys and find that even after a short 5 mile journey I can hear this rush of air. -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 97 1.2 - Turns over but will not start 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Help - My 18 son's 97 Clio 1.2 has broken down, apparently it lost power ( no undue noise ) and stopped. I have checked the usual suspects - fuel etc as a matter of course. The problem is that now the car is back on the drive I cannot get it to start. There is a healthy spark at the plugs and fuel is getting into the fuel injection system at the fuel inlet- beyond that nothing. -
Volkswagen Passat (1988 - 1997) - 96 1.9Tdi air bubbles in diesel fuel pipe 5 Feb 2009 (Forum)

Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 04 2.0 fuel injection pump 28 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now the car is chugging and spluttering when driven and sometimes cuts out. I took it to a garage and they advised I change the fuel filter which I did and it lasted about 2 months and the same problems occured. I then took it to another garage and they put it on a machine that gave me a code of P1222 - fuel injection pump invalid status malfunaction. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 1.6 Easy cure for poor fuel consumption ? 2 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have seen reports of poor fuel consumption on the latest Focus, but was appalled to find my new 1.6 petrol model only doing around 34mpg, compared with 39-41 mpg on the previous model. I bought the car brand new and it has just 1000 miles on the clock. -
BMW 3-Series E91 Touring (2005 - ) - Fuel economy - 320d 31 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Previously I've expressed disappointment in these e-pages about the fuel consumption of my 07/56 320d (ie without the latest fuel-saving tweaks): I'd never been able to crack 50 mpg on the computer. On Monday I hot-footed it to central Manchester - about 175 miles on the M40/M42/M6, then A556/M56 etc(I think). -
What can be done to fuel tax/duty? 5 May 2008 (Forum)
In this morning's Telegraph there's a brief analysis of what El Gordo can do to put things right since receiving a good kick up the sporran the other night. On fuel costs, the plan is apparently to try to force OPEC to increase production. Lowering fuel duty is dismissed on the basis that the reduction might not be passed on at the pump. They just don't stop do they? -
Another Acetone Thread 11 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Whilst trying to escape XFactor and associated programmes I found this link: http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/ I don't know whether Mr Lou LaPointe came up during previous discussions but he is an advocate of adding pure acetone and other ingredients to fuels to increase MPG up to a claimed 50%. He claims that this can be achieved by the car owner by slowly increasing the additives until the best figures are achieved for that particular engine and using the same fuel source of 'good fuel'. -
Audi A4 B7 (2005 - 2008) - 2.0 TDI 140 engine - fuel consumption 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I was wondering why it seems that the Audi A4 with the 2.0 TDI 140 engine is so much more thirsty than other VAG cars with the same engine ? My car has now done 10.5K miles and compared to my old TDI 130 the fuel consumptions is still fairly unexciting. I get 44-45 MPG on a motorway run if I'm really gentle, whereas the old TDI 130 on the same journeys would do 50-52 mpg. The thing that seems strange to me is talking to A3 and Passat drivers with the same engine, they seem to have never had issues with fuel consumption. -
New Fuel & Oil Additive 22 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Product I have never seen or heard of on sale today. Something to add to oil and another to put in the fuel tank. Claims up to 21% improvement in fuel consumption, up to 70& reduction in engine wear and up to 80% reduction in pollution. It also " Segregates carbon deposits and limits clogging which is the main cause of wear and decreased performance" - whatever that means A bit of waffle about tests carried out according to international standards recognised by the automobile industry; "used today by many professionals and private users worldwide". -
Seat Ibiza 1.4i 1995 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Have also checked for spark, and fuel flow/delivery and it all looks text book. Car has just under a full tank with no sign (or smell) of fuel leaks etc. Any ideas as to why it doesn't want to run? Thanks in advance Andrew -
cheap fuel 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Inventor turns dead cats into diesel A German inventor says he's found a way to make cheap diesel fuel out of dead cats. Dr Christian Koch, 55, from Kleinhartmannsdorf, said his method uses old tyres, weeds and animal cadavers. They are heated up to 300 Celsius to filter out hydrocarbon which is then turned into diesel by a catalytic converter. -
Fuel draining into tank? Citroen ZX TD 30 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Whilst the head was off the mechanic checked the injecters - they were fine also. If I bleed the fuel system by pumping the bulb about 10-12 times then the car starts fine - straight away. I think that the fuel is in the line is draining back into the tank. How can I rectify this? What else could be causing this? -
VAG speedo and fuel gauge problem 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I am experiencing a problem aver the last few days with an octavia Firstly the speedo started to fluctuate then it stopped completely once it stopped then the fuel gauge started to fluctuate I found one of the injectors leaking diesel which flowed onto the speedo sensor so i fixed the leak and cleaned the engine thoroughly. nothing improved so i am after replacing the speedo sensor with a brand new one, this has not helped either i am begining to think it is a wireing fault ie a bad earth. and that the fuel leak wasnt to blame for the problem also i have noticed recently that the car will chuck at low revs when this happens it will go away if u accelorate harder so i only see the problem when driving in slow traffic Has anyone seen this before ar have any ideas what could be causing it.
