What to buy? 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My shortlist at the moment, after a fair amount of test driving. At the moment, it looks like this: 1.8 Ford Focus. Comfortable, and a nice drive. My feelings towards it are pretty.... Well, non existant. It seems a standard drive, with not much of the "enjoyment" factor to it. -
Skoda yeti 1.2 2012 - Oil pump drive chain? 15 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Been quoted £900 + labour to fix and replace the oil pump drive chain. Does this seem right? car has a history of a small leek, too expensive to repair, so kept oil levels topped up and its been fine for years. new clutch and gearbox in 2019 Yesterday, accelerated to about 60mph, red oil light beeped and flashing, restricted power, smoke from bonnet and noise like a bag of spanners! -

Driving awareness course and Insurance 17 May 2021 (Forum)
After having a bit of a google about the place I've found that the dvla is not told about speed awareness courses so insurers wouldn;t be able to find out about them...but I'm not sure if that applies to other courses like the one I've mentioned above. The offence is driving without due care and attention if that helps. Thanks in advance. -

what did you learn to drive in?? 5 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Interesting insight from Avant from when he learned to drive. I had my lessons in a 1964 Vauxhall Viva and practiced, with 'L' plates affixed, in a company van when out and about working. A Bedford CF with column change and three gears. What simple vehicles they were. -
Vauxhall Meriva - Meriva 11 Reg - ABS, TC and ESC warning light 24 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hi, Was just driving the all of a sudden 4 warning lights came on. The ABS one, the TC one, and the ESC warning light, as well as the light telling me the ESC was switched off!! I got home, left it... and when I went out for another drive all the lights had disappeared... a week later (and driving it most days), it's now reappeared. -
Mitsubishi shogun elegance 2006 - High idling when stopped in drive and reverse 21 Nov 2018 (Forum)
My EGR valve is capped to stop the excess smoke that was billowing out. But now after 2 years my shogun is idling extremely high when In Drive or reverse in traffic. This isn’t the case when she first starts (starts first time) but gradually builds up as she gets warmer. My mechanic is completely flummoxed. Mitsubishi have said perhaps pump but these are £3000 + so that isn’t an option. -
Useless in the snow and ice - Rear wheel drive auto cars 14 Dec 2017 (Forum)
My son's E320 auto estate sits on his drive because it is completely unsuitable for this week's icy conditions. Luckily he was able to borrow my A4 for the day to visit his business premises. My view was confirmed by a taxi driver who uses this model for airport runs. -
Crazy driving...seems to work 10 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Out in Thailand and I am astonished at the driving habits here. The Traffic in Bangkok makes London look positively free flowing. Thai drivers see a space and they are into it, vehicles just cut in from junctions, motor bikes weave in and out, go the wrong way down dual carriageways often with Mum, Dad and the little one aboard, many have no helmet, However horns are seldom heard and I didn't,see one car or van with body damage or see one incident of even minor road rage. -
Observation-Seriously unsafe driving habit 17 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Both on A and B roads and indeed observed within urban districts, the nasty habit of driving away from the left of the road, right up to the centre if not over the white line facing oncoming traffic. Reason?--to avoid pot holes. Result?- at worst a scraped car, second worse a swerve into the pot hole for the oncoming vehicle. -
Diesel or petrol for a larger car? 2 Jan 2017 (Forum)
With the family growing we are looking to upgrade my wife's Honda Jazz to something bigger for trips to see family. I fancy an estate, she prefers a MPV...anyway most of the driving is short urban driving in south London but then every 6-8 weeks there will be 500 plus mile round trips for seeing family or holidays. I have been advised that diesel isn't suitable for so much short driving but then most reviews suggest the diesel engine option! -
