  • Syphoning petrol/diesel from tank. 9 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Anyone know if you can buy a syphon kit to do this, or anything that can be made to do the job? Do new cars have anti-syphon devices to prevent said practice? I...
  • Vectra Advice 9 May 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I\'m thinking of buying a 1yr old (03) Vectra SRi from one of the Supermarkets and and wondered if anyone has any advice on these cars - I\'ve heard and read mixed reports, most negative ones being about image which I\'m not too concerned about. I\'m not sure whether to go for the 2.2 petrol or diesel. I\'ve never driven a modern diesel and like the sound of the economy and power they give, but is it worth forking out £1000 extra? I won\'t save much in fuel costs as my annual mileage is only around 8k made up of a daily commute and the odd longer run at weekends.
  • Diesel - not so cheap ? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
All the diesels costed in between £11.5 - 13k from on-line brokers, the 1.4 Corolla at just under £10K. The result - even with the superior fuel economy of the diesels, not one of them were actually cheaper to run, since even the A2 only saved £1K in 3 years - the others even less.
  • Renault Clio - Poor MPG 28 Jul 2024 (Forum)
We have a Clio 1.5 Diesel clio and normally we were getting 58MPG , After the car had a service in January and the MPG display was reset, We started to get 50 MPG , I then changed the fuel filter which increased the MPG to 52 and after a month i added some red X Diesel engine cleaner and some DPF Cleaner and took the car on the motorway and held the car at 3000 RPM and covered 50 miles, Since then i have increased the MPG to 54, So i am still missing out on 4MPG.
  • Volvo XC60 - VOLVO CHARGES FOR FORD PARTS 22 Jan 2014 (Forum)
However, after the inconvenience of a number of random refusals to start over the following weeks, the problem was isolated to the fuel pump assembly in the diesel tank. A replacement assembly is only obtainable from Volvo. Faced with no alternative, I purchased one from my local dealership, at a cost of £345.60. During the replacement process I saw that part of the original assembly was marked as a Ford part and the new assembly had a Ford format part number.
  • KIA Ceed 2L diesel Sport 3 years old 33,000 miles - No accelerator - loss of power - engine stops 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I’m unsure if it’s an engine management problem or a fuel starvation problem. Is it possible to test this to confirm. I wonder if it’s an engine management problem that they will fix it and say it was fuel line and charge me as that isn’t covered by the warranty.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel - Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTI ECU/Fuel Pump Problem Help 7 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I've had to put a Astra down as the model for this post, but the vehicle I need help with is a Zafira! I've a friend who's recently bought a 2003 Zafira...
  • Citroen Despatch (2007 - ) - 04 1.9 diesel poor running 5 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I posted a previous question about non starting and had to resort to getting an auto electrician firm out to fix the problem after spending 2 hours outside my house on tuesday in the rain they decided to tow it to there garage where they claimed to have worked on it all day wednesday cutting some security device off the back of the diesel pump telling me on Wednesday eve that it also needed new glow plugs so it would run just right.Got it back today with £350.00 bill but it now has a different problem than before,it starts ok now so that problem seems to be fixed but it flattens out like you have run out of fuel at between 20/30 it is as if it is being starved of fuel temporarily then as you drive through it it springs back to life.
  • Volvo C30 (2006 - 2009) - Poor fuel economy. 2 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I know I am not alone in this situation, I have read on this site alone, other people experiencing poor fuel economy from Volvo's 2.0 Ltr diesel engine. Volvo obviously have no conscience regarding their customers, especially when they publicize what a caring organisation they are with excellent after sales service and so, NO MORE VOLVOS' FOR ME!!!
  • Petrol or Diesel for long term ownership 14 Feb 2014 (Forum)
This is scary right enough, but the savings per year say for a C4Grand Picasso 1.6 diesel versus 1.6 petrol are about £419. Over ten years that's £4200 assuming a stable tax regime and fuel price ratio. Given that the massive diesel bug out mught not happen, isn't that a risk worth taking?
  • "Payback" Mileage for secondhand Diesel 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Does anyone have nay clues as to what the mileage payback would be ? Or at this price range is it worth anyone going to diesel ? I don't do a huge mileage, but am debating wether to buy a much older bigger petrol engined car, eg. (P) plate Subaru legacy , or to buy a 3 yr old modern diesel, woith hopefully equivalent performance, but which of course will be more expensive to purchase, but cheaper in fuel... eg 2003 current shape Avensis...
  • Diesel servicing costs? 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Audi TT (??) Key requirements are that it's an auto. Doing my spreadsheet calculations, it looks like diesel is the way to go (assuming 10mpg gap between diesel and petrol this equates to about a £500 saving pa in fuel costs) Question is, how can I quantify the difference in servicing costs between the 2 engine types?
  • What was up with this Jaguar? 3 Oct 2007 (Forum)
On the M40 this morning, I was passed by a newish XJ - 54, I think - that seemed to be trailing a little silvery cloud that wasn't spray rising from the wheels. As it disappeared, I noticed it was also leaving behind a strong whiff of diesel fuel. Anyone like to suggest what might have caused this - and what risk it might have posed to the Jaguar driver and the rest of us?
  • Total Excellium 29 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My local four branded garages all sell Total. Just launched this allegedly improved fuel. I can not say I notice any difference in the performance of diesel VW so far. Not even the claimed anti foam properties on refuelling. Anyone have anything good to say about Total? -- I wasna fu but just had plenty.
  • Confused - second hand diesel or petrol estate 22 Feb 2017 (Forum)
If I use these figures as a benchmark the petrol version will cost approx £7 a week more in fuel so I'm still leaning towards the diesel.  Cruise control would be nice as I have worn cartilage in my right knee, I also drive for a living so the less stress I put on it the better and obviously this too would affect fuel economy.
  • TuningBox for Diesels 21 Jun 2001 (Forum)
The car also feels much more tractable at low revs. There is no increase in engine noise or exhaust emissions. It is a little early to guage fuel consumption, but early impressions point towards a slight increase, but that is due to my new-found eagerness with my right foot! So I now have a two litre diesel car with nigh-on 130BHP and 330Nm of torque (It's the +60Nm torque that gives the car the performance boost) I just need better brakes now..........
  • Jaguar XF 2009 - Restricted Performance warning persisting 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I’m looking for a bit of help and advice with my diesel car I recently purchased. The low fuel warning came on with 50 miles left and then the Restricted Performance notice so I drove home and to the garage by which time it had 35 miles of fuel. i expected the RP to go away after filling up thinking it was fuel related, but it has persisted unless I am heavy on the accelerator, when it does go away.
  • 2.0 tdci - tdci engine cuts out 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
2nd call dec 2010 - Advised AA to tow to garage without start from ford garage so they could see if any fault codes came up, no fault we detected and they couldnt fine any other problems, they thought it was frozen fuel so they checked fuel lines and replaced the battery, Today - called AA out and being towed to garage as we speak, i know its not frozen fuel in this weather. any help would be great as i cant drive it anywhere without the worry of it cutting out
  • Ford Focus Estate - 1.0 Ecoboost vs 1.6 TDCI 29 Feb 2024 (Forum)
However, the ecoboost and diesels introduce complications that are more likely to affect cars at the age and mileage I'm looking at. Turbo/injector/dpf problems could easily cost more in repairs than the savings made on tax and fuel.
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 07 2.0 Surging after running out of diesel 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Two weeks ago I ran out of diesel (because I didn't want to have to wake my newborn son to go in and pay - silly mistake). I called Peugeot Assist & a really nice chap who knew nothing about Peugeots brought some diesel out. After trying to start it half a dozen times I finally persuaded him that the manual had advice on what to do.
