Daewoo nexia poor running 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Also the water is going down, and on removing the oil cap, the oil has a creamy scum appearance on the top. My diagnosis head gasket gone between oil and coolant - but not into the piston - (yet) I would say they are two seperate faults, one requiring injector cleaner/new injector the other requiring new head gasket. Am I right or could the bad running be related to the oil problem? -
Xantia Heater 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
After driving for weeks with nothing but cold air coming out I have disovered something that cleans out the heater matrix. I recently bought some sink unblocker/drain cleaner from B&Q. I put about a cup full inthe coolant and after acouple of days the air has started to get warmer. Prior to this event I have tried flushing the whole system, I have used the small bottles of liquid from Car stores that allegedly clean out the system. -
CMAX Diesel Mayo 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
It looks like "mayonnaise" and I know this could happen with short runs but although he does these he tells me that he has done a few longer (20-30 mile) trips lately and I thought this might have disappeared. The car doesn't appear to be drinking coolant so is this just a combinatation of the short runs and the weather getting a bit cooler or is there something else(i.e. the vent has blocked on the oil filler cap?) With the design of the oil filler on the car quite a way from the engine block maybe the water vapour cools too quickly rather than being expelled through the vent (I think) on the filler cap. -
Skoda Elegance 1.9TDI 5/2003 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
About to ask local Skoda garage if they can consult their computer to check if brake fluid etc has been done. Was considering oil & filter change, brake fluid swop (DOT4?), Coolant change (probaly 5 year anti-freeze). When is the cambelt due on these, and do you require tensioners etc (405 still on original after 237k) Can the backroomers suggest any other jobs I should be considering, or advice against the above -
Mk1 Mondeo V6 - airlock? 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Symptoms are heater not working, radiator bottom hose not getting hot, zero reading from temp gauge, and pressurised cooling system - opening expansion tank will cause a jet of steam, followed by what can only be described as the sound of plastic bending or cracking, I assume this is hoses expanding. Thermostat has been changed and coolant drained/refilled, but problem persists. We both had a poke around this morning to try and find a bleed valve, but it's all a bit packed in under the bonnet! I wondered if the new thermostat might also be duff? -
Sisters 51 1.2 Punto - never serviced 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)

Damsel In Distress - Vectra Fumes! 30 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It was worse with the windows open. Also a slight rattling but that could be innocent. On inspection the coolant was very low so it's been topped up. I also noticed some liquid spitting out of the exhaust and don't know how normal that is. The garage claimed to have serviced it and replaced the cambelt. I haven't rung them yet as I'd like to have an idea of what the prob could be. -
Am I neglecting my car? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Am I effecting the long term future of my car with this attitude? I check my tyres obviously and would keep the oil/coolant topped up (not that the levels ever seem to change!) Other than the cam-belt (due for replacement soon) is it worth changing any other consumable component on a car as a precaution? Views please... -
Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003) - 93 2.0l auto radiator top hose pressure 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Vx omega 2.0L 16v ecotec-auto box- 95k L-reg Hi all, lost lots of coolant from radiator top hose last night, where the hose fits onto the rad. The rad is ok & the hose is only 3 months old. It's as if there's too much pressure & that's where it blows. I tested the thermostat 3 months ago & it was fine. -
Reviving a Fiat Punto.... 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I want to help but I'm not sure where I should start; The battery is going to be flat - should I recharge it or would it be less hassle to get a new one (£25-30)? What other things should I look at? - oil/filter/coolant change, brakes, tyres, spark plugs perhaps? Bear in mind that it just needs to be MOT'd and will be sold almost immediately afterwards Thanks in advance, Chad. -
BMW 330D E46 Door Leak 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The following day i was greeted with the same pool of water. Can anybody help me, it is rainwater and not coolant of any kind i have been assured. I have been trying to get a hold of one of those rare beasts called a BMW SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, do they really exist or are they a figment of my imagination. -
Fiat Punto Overfuelling 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
It is currently overfuelling on tickover and is difficult to start when warm/hot due to excess fuel. The fuel injection warning light is on. Have looked at coolant temp sensor, inlet air temp sensor and throttle pot. All OK. Lamda sensor is working fine (although not sure this does much at tickover). MAP sensor appears to be OK but not exactly sure how to test. -

Help! Pug 306 Radiator swap nightmare 27 Aug 2001 (Forum)
(BTW even if it was possible to repair the radiator, you'd still have to get it out first!) Any help/info would be appreciated. /John PS: Previous posts about how to refill & bleed the coolant system on a DTurbo have been already been read and noted. -
Golf Mk7 1.6tdi SE 140k miles - Coolong system 2 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hi folks, car heater output low or non existent and low coolant light comes on some time, top is around half a mug full every 1000 miles or so. I thought it was dodgy heater matrix,- not so. Called RAC - very smart guy poked and prodded around with UV light, could see no obvious leaks - no leaks at bulkhead and no leaks under dashboard, Did a pressure test (5mns), said very small leak evident. -
2008 VW Golf 1.9 tdi with BXE engine - cooling fan runs randomly 16 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Hi I've just replaced both coolant temperature sensors, one in the side of the engine and the other in the bottom hose, and the cooling fan, Mine is the one with just the one large fan. I still have the same fault, which is, the fan comes on randomly. -
OBDII Bluetooth Scan Tools 25 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I have a very late Rover v8 (2004) which is OBDII compliant and, this being an engine notorious for slipped liners, I want to be able to keep an eye on coolant temp or at least intermittently monitor it. I would rather not go down the route of a separate gauge glued to the dash and all the associated wiring that entails. I have seen android apps that can be set to alert you if it goes over a certain temp, but i’m on IOS. -
Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 182k - The Old Girl Rolls On 27 Nov 2018 (Forum)
'Chwarae teg' ('fair play') as we say here, when I collected the car he had done the tyres, checked/topped the coolant, oil, brake and steering fluids, put it up om the ramp and given it a quick pre-mot to check she was ok for the winter. (Nothing to report). Total cost: £115 plus a tin of chocolate biscuits for the boys' tea break. -
Toyota Auris - Auris Hybrid 2013 - maintenance 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I know its complicated new tech but can I still do the following jobs myself? 1. change engine oil and filter 2. Change radiator coolant 3. change brake pads/discs 4. change auxilliary belts (if it has them) 5. change air/fuel filters I really do not want a car which has to go to the dealer for routine servicing, I cannot afford it. -
Volkswagen Golf IV - Is it the headgasket? VW Golf S reg 15 May 2015 (Forum)
notice white gunk under oil cap and also further down that pipe. (white/yellow/brown) Unscrewed coolant, quite a bit of pressure, and it fluctuated (spilled out, then sucked back in, repeated.) and at the same time i could hear a squelching noise coming from elsewhere. google said could be a few things, including head gasket?
