  • Suzuki Vitara - Buying a car off gumtree - am I being scammed? 15 Jul 2024 (Forum)
This process is getting dubious and a simple request for a test drive gets ignored, instead I'm getting put in touch with an auction house, for privilege to sign-up for a "free" 7-day membership. Can I just ask if this is a scam, or a business-as-usual way selling a car these days? Have I perhaps missed any red flags early on this process?
  • Any - Possible accident scam 9 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I am sure that the Audi was already damaged and that there will be a claim on me, supported by false statements. Has anyone a similar experience? I believe that there is a scam of this type, for which some people were sent to prison, but usually at roundabouts and with "witnesses" in the offender's car. This sort of thing is upsetting and I would be glad of advice.

  • mercedes - BMW X5 Synergy Manchester 21 May 2012 (Forum)
According to Insolvency this company is not in Liquidation, it is run by a guy called ABDUAL QUDDAS and he has not made himself bankrupt it is all a SCAM. Insolvency say they cannot do anything. I have told Consumer Direct, they weren't particularly helpful. You cannot speak to Trading Standards as you have to go through Consumer Direct. Insolvency know all about this guy a number of people have got caught out like me, but nothing seems to be done.

  • Any - Postcodes 27 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Dunno whether I'm exceeding my authority here, but I've noticed that when people put up links to vehicle auction sites they often feature what I assume to be the poster's postcode.  Given the dangers from online fraud, scamming and identity theft, it might be an idea (if the site will allow you to do this) to clear your postcode details before posting the link.
  • Motor Insurance and 'Acts of God' 31 Jan 2002 (Forum)
A worrying news report on TV yesterday evening - a woman whose car was written off when a tree branch crashed across it during the weekend gales was told by the insurance company that they weren't paying up, as it was an 'act of God'- this would seem to give the companies an enormous loophole to renege on the policies. Anyone fallen foul of this scam recently? P.
