  I recently got the coolant cap replaced; but it still looses coolant. Hozes have been replaced. The boss at my main dealer is a thoroughly experienced man. He says the car is starting to have cover head gasget trouble, as he saw a certain amount of dirt in the coolant box.

  Hello I have a 1990 registered Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 diesel nonturbo I have recently noticed that the coolant hoses are very tight. Also when it has been running there is a slight weep of coolant coming from the small hose which returns to the coolant tank at its connection at the radiator. The car has done a genuine 60,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained.

  I flushed out the coolant system and replaced the coolant in my TDi Golf the other day. I drove the car today for a while, there was plenty of heat from my heater system but then it suddenly went 'cold'. The temperature hand did not rise above 90 degrees.

  Or is it easy to do? I don't have any coolant but I googled and some people said you can just top up with ordinary water and then get the correct level of/mix of coolant put in afterwards.  Would this be okay? Is there a cap somewhere on the top of the bottle that just unscrews to fill the water into?

  My brother has a (BMW) Mini, petrol auto with about 20k on the clock. Recently, in traffic, the coolant temp warning light came on and the fan cut in to cool things down. He asked me about this and I advised him to check the coolant level. We found that the header tank was empty, and the level had dropped to just inside the attached pipe at the bottom of the tank.

  HELP!, My Kangoo (2000 1.9D) is overheating and losing it's coolant. After only a mile or so the temperature guage quickly rises to 3 quarters- then falls back to the centre in a couple of seconds. When I open the bonnet the coolant is down below the minimum mark.

  I have a VW Passat TDI which about 5 weeks ago started loosing a litre plus of coolant every 3 days (lots of motorway use) and slight loss of power.Took it to garage who did pressure test ,every think o.k.Continued to loose coolant and recently found oil in filler reservoir,garage said very likely head gasket blown,Two weeks and lots of money later head gasket replaced,head skimmed ,new water pump etc,appeared to be ok , power better and no loss of coolant.Two days later driving home on motorway temp gauge went onto red signalling loss of coolant,on checking later coolant reservoir empty,needed litre /half to refill exact same problem as before.It will be back in garage tomorrow!!!.

  When topped up the coolant seems to just disappear, and the coolant bottle emits a burning smell. I have checked under the oil filler cap and the oil is fine. I dont know if the thermostat has gone again, or there is a more serious problem with the cooling system or engine.

  I'm wondering if it gives a warning when there is too much coolant in? Also, are the temps too high or is it normal for the Vectra to run at 95C? Finally, should I be worried about the 'coolant level check' message? Perhaps I shouldn't be driving it at all until I get it checked out?

  Can I change the thermostat without draining the coolant.?  The coolant is fairly new so don't want to have to renew it again. and I know that by draining off either by removing the bottom hose or rad plug, usually results in the coolant running all over the place picking up dirt.

• Ford/Focus - Coolant Leak from 1.6 zetec on unknown part :( 9 Dec 2012 (Forum)
  Have topped up and this morning noticed I think where it is coming from. Engine is a petrol 1.6 zetec on an 06 plate. Between the coolant reservoir and the engine is a circular metal component with a metal bracket over it...the coolant seems to be leaking out the top of it... Can anyone let me know what this component is?

  I have had trouble with a coolant temperature sensor, replaced it and shortly after had warning signals. Expansion tank was empty and steam rising from the radiator. I filled it with coolant to max then drove home, still warning light, still steaming.

  my car has lost about half a litre of coolant in maybe 2 weeks, and the a/c compressor is covered in a fluid deposit. does any engine coolant flow through the a/c compressor? my intial thought was that it was the water pump leaking, but can only see a/c comp from bottom of car?

  Trying to change coolant. Drained the old out. Started to fill with new (coolant first rather than a mix, which could have been a mistake), and the air in the system simply stops it filling. As a result I have just over a litre in the system, it won't drain (possibly same reason), starting the engine fails to pump the fluid round the engine.

  After changing the engine oil I performed the usual checks and noticed that the coolant level had dropped by 1.5 inches below the COLD level on the coolant reservoir. I topped it up to the correct level and two days later it has fallen again by about 1 inch. Please, has anyone got any ideas as to why this might happened?

  I have been topping it up every time but a permanent solution would be good.  I have had a look at the coolant tank and it looks like the coolant is coming out of the overflow. What could be causing this?

  Hi just brought a 2001 fiesta 1.3 and the heater only blows cold no matter where the heater dial is placed. I have flushed the coolant system and heater matrix, replaced the water pump , thermostate and heater control valve and fully bled the coolant system so coolant fan kicks in. I have rechecked the coolant level all o.k . I have tested the voltage to the coolant control valve and ranges between 0-1 volt but this should default it into blowing hot but still I only have cold air.

  This and the fact that the outlet hose from the matrix is cold has led me to think that there is a blockage in the coolant manifold. When you remove the matrix outlet hose from the coolant manifold the nozzle on the manifold seems to be a dead end - by this I mean I've managed to stick my finger in it and there is an immovable metal plate.
