  • Ford Ka - Brake performance 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The pedal travel seems excessive and the braking efficiency seems poor. Took many attempts to remove the front bleed nipples. Been soaking in penetrating fluid every weekend with no success. Finally resorted to heating the caliper with a gas torch (not hot enough to damage anything except my thumb !) and applying freezer spray down a tube over the nipple.
  • Vauxhall - 05 1.9 tdi Vivaro Starting then dying immediately 10 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Put it into a garage no codes found but I asked them to check fuel filter as I had heard horror stories of filings and destroyed high pressure fuel pumps all was ok on that front. Finally got codes by driving around with comp plugged and codes suggested excessive exhaust gases so EGR valve was taken out and cleaned found to be sticking but was put back in until new part arrived.

  • PLOD WILL CONFISCATE YOUR CAR 30 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Blunkett wants to prevent hooligans blazing around housing estates by giving police the power to impound the car, to be returned after payment of a release fee. Good idea, thought I. Then I remembered the traffic plod who stopped me for an offence that wasn't an offence. He didn't know the law, we had a heated discussion, and he finally gave in.

  • Giving the battery an easier life 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Switch off electrical stuff before killing the engine after the journey. Likewise wait until the engine is running before switching on lights, fan and heated window. Don't manoeuvre with headlights or heated window still on unless you have to. Don't start the car, pull it out of the garage, switch off and then go looking for handbag, gloves, mobile etc.

I wonder if anybody could assist. I have a 52 reg 1.4l scenic. It has recently been idling at between 1500 and 2000 revs. Car drives fine until it heats up a little and I come to a stop. It then starts to rev up and down between 500 and 2000 revs. Its as though its gasping for air. Checked all pipes for leaks. Changed coils and coolant sensor but no joy.

  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 320cdi - does it have a winter heater? 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know if it has a heater that ensures you get warm air out of the vents in the winter before the engine heats up? I know diesel engines can take an age to warm up and not all cars have an auxilliary heater. Many thanks, Duncan

  • Best way to remove an air lock? 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The Polo (see profile) has had an antifreeze change recently, but they didn't turn the heater control to 'hot' (thus opening the water tap to the heater matrix) and I think there is an air lock. This is because the car is running hot, but not over heating, at about 95C. If you turn the heater on, the temp will drop. After a run, the bottom of the radiator seems just to be warm.
  • RX7 buying guide help 2 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Hello All I'm thinking about buying a older RX7, maybe an 83,84,85 model and wonder if anyone has had any dealings with them or can give me advice about them. I know the models changed in 85 onwards and is it a much better car than the series than the previous years? I also know that the engines can have problems in over heated but in terms of cost to run and relaibility anyone reccomend a particular model and so forth?
  • Honda Civic 27 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Saw a Honda Civic 'Vision' in local dealer's the other day - seems to have a lot of kit for the asking price ABS, AirCon, Airbags, CD player, Electric windows, Metallic paint, heated mirrors - all for £9995 (before discount) with a 3 year warranty. To me this looks like a good deal - is there a better new car buy for this sort of money? Would this be a good bet for someone who does mainly motorway miles with some town driving or is the 1.4 engine not up to the job?
