Front Carpets are Wet-Mondeo 96 1.8TD - lennymfo
The front carpets are wet and the car stinks. I initially shampooed everything, dried everything and stuck a bowl of white vinegar in the car to get rid of the smell. Would anyone have any ideas where this water may be coming from? I'm thinking of ripping the carpets out so at least the smell should go? Is this a good idea. Cheers Lenny

Yes I have had to do the same myself and underneath it was still absolutely sodden.

Mss, when you ripped the carpets out, did the smell go and where did you go to replace them? Did you use a standard carpet fitter. Cheers Lenny

Yes totally gone now.

Erm...they're still sat in the garage :^D I will be replacing it all myself provided I can remember where it all goes, it's all shaped and cut to the car.

Need to fix the leaks first...

The most common fault which I have experienced as I still have the above mondeo u have mentioned is where the heater motor is, and it comes through where the pollen filter is fitted. My advise is check the pollen filter and its condition of the seal surrounding it as this usually perishes, if in doubt replace the pollen filter as a matter of course. Question id have u had it replaced since u had the mondeo, you also my find that if your blower weren't working effieciently then expect to be blowing a gale in your car when you have replaced it. Good luck anyway, see how that goes.

If the car doesnt have aircon, will it have a pollen filter? Cheers

yes it will have a pollen filter as mine dosen't have air con either, you will find the pollen filter on the passenger side in the bulk head, you will have to remove a section of the grill part fixed against the outside of the windscreen, a torx headed srew driver will be required to remove them, then it will reveal a black box with clips around it, open the clips and that will reveal the pollen filter, just pull it up and inspect it to see if the seal is perished, if the filter is black replace it anyway.

you could also pour water around the passenger side bulk head area, then look inside to see if water starts to drip from the heater motor, that then tells u that the pollen filter seal is perished.

PU,

Sure is, albeit slightly buried. It does however get a frequent mention here in Tech Matters.
