What is causing a strange noise from offside front wheel?

I have recently purchased a used Toyota Aygo from a local Toyota dealer. The car has 7800 miles and cost me £9,900. It seems to function properly, except an unusual incident. Yesterday as I was descending quite a steep hill I used the brake pedal to reduce speed from 40mph to 30mph over approx 250 meters. I suppose something was heating up as I could hear a noise coming from the offside front wheel, akin to a pebble caught in the tyre, except I checked it and there was none. I noticed that the wheel has a different tyre (a cheaper one), which leads me to think that the previous owner probably hit something, ruined the original tyre and they didn't want want to put too much money in a car that would soon be returned to the dealer so a cheaper brand was deemed a better choice.

I purchased the car two weeks ago, but I fear that if I go to Toyota without proof or being able to reproduce the noise (there are no hills close to that area), I will be dismissed easily (and possibly pay for a visual inspection that will find nothing, as they already 'checked' the car before selling it to me).

What can I do? I will try to record the noise, but it will be difficult and prove little, and if I wait until the noise gets louder, it will probably mean (if not already too late, as I have done 200 miles) that it is somehow my fault or normal wear/tear. This is not how I imagined a 3 year old car would be.

If this is a one-off occurrence then my guess would be a stone caught between the brake disc and the wheel, which will make a loud and alarming noise that will then clear as the stone works its way loose from the disc. If the noise occurs regularly then it may be an issue with the wheel bearing or the wheel itself.

I would suggest checking the tyre's pressure and condition. The owner's manual will tell you the correct PSI (it will also be indicated on a sticker inside the driver's doorframe). Inspect the condition of the tyre and look for any signs of damage on the sidewall (lumps or bumps).

I would also recommend getting the car checked by the Toyota dealer that sold it to you. Explain the problem and they will arrange for it to be inspected by a mechanic who will be able to identify any underlying issues with the wheel or suspension.
