Mitsubishi Lancer (2008 - ) - New Mitsubishi Lancer - Why poor fuel economy? 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
At todays fuel prices thats an extra 390 gallons costing £2106, and we all know that will be higher with the speed that diesel fuel prices are increasing. So sadly that is telling me that I am probably going to be sticking to Octavia's (which are great cars .... but don't look like a 2008 Lancer) So what is with the poor (in comparison with VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi) fuel economy? -
What fuel consumption gaffs/efforts have you made 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
What fuel consumption efforts and mistakes, including purchase, have you made over the years?. 1) 1967 Mini van, fuel consumption (best) 38mpg on east coast run. Fitted a Mangoletsi ? Manifold modifier, which basically just seemed to do nothing except cut performance as it reduced inlet manifold diameter. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 TD - Delayed Turbo, fuel delivery problem? 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
When he came back the idle was unsteady, it was smokey, there was a lack in power, slow to rev, poor MPG e.t.c. I have changed the fuel filter, blead the fuel system, checked for air in the fuel system, cleaned egr valve, used injector cleaner in the fuel e.t.c. I have noticed that instead of the turbo coming in at around 1500-2000 rev's as it should, it comes on at 4000-4500 rev's, when this happens it runs like a dream until the rev's drop below 2000 rev's and then there appears to be no boost again. -
Mazda MX3 Fuel Inj./Lumpy problem 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
So, possible problems I've identified (please add to list): Dirty Fuel Filter Fuel Supply/Pump problem Dirty/Blocked/Sticking Injector Faulty O2 Sensor Any other things I've missed? I like to be fully informed before I go to a garage (Don't think I'll be able to sort the service myself, nor the problem unfortunately...). -
Fuel Filter on Back to Front! - Cavalier 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I tried blowing water through the old filter in each direction, and it takes a lot more puff to get it through the wrong way. Question is, is the fuel pump likely to have suffered in 20k miles of pumping \'too hard\'?! Are there any other problems that this could have created during this time? And given that the fuel filter appeard fine (if back to front) is it worth keeping as a spare? -
If you really want to pick fault with company car 10 Dec 2001 (Forum)
re looking forward to collecting a Peugeot 406 2.2HDi 136 GTX. If you allow your employer to provide fuel for private use in this company car, the Inland Revenue will include in your income tax affairs an annual ?fuel scale charge? of £3,620. In other words you will be taxed as if you received an additional £3,620 income i.e. the fuel provided for private use is worth £3,620 p.a.(£302 per month). -

Motorway extravagance 20 Apr 2016 (Forum)
What has it cost to erect roadside gantries to display the cost of fuel at the motorway service stations? Who has to take on fuel at a motorway service station? Surely a waste of money. Fix the motorway potholes, but then that is a different budget. -

US carmakers economy unchanged in 15yrs 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
EPA's efficiency estimates are less conservative than widely cited calculations used by the Transportation Department for measuring passenger vehicle fuel standards or Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). The EPA has proposed tougher government-wide requirements for calculating fuel economy. The Transportation Department is also reviewing its standard for passenger cars to reduce overall U.S. oil consumption, but any change is not expected for a few years. -
Vauxhall vectra sri direct - Running and starting issues 28 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The issues are, the car tends to start without an issue initially, it will then idle perfectly for around 30 secs and then becomes very lumpy and dies, sometimes it will restart and if it does it continues to run lump, when it initially starts and runs for 30 secs I also can't touch the accelerator pedal because it then also runs very lumpy and dies. Now I bought the car as spares and repairs claiming it to be a fueling issue, after spending a fair few pennies on replacing high pressure fuel pump, fuel regulator and fuel pressure sensor and fuel filter the issue still remains, I have measured the fuel coming to the high pressure fuel pump and when running it constantly stays at 4 bar which indicates no issue with lift pump. -
Hydrogen fuel 12 Feb 2001 (Forum)
Either Chancellors of the Exchequer are going to have to give up most of their current massive tax take on vehicle fuel, or each of us will have to take out a mortgage each time we fill up our cars with hydrogen! Since clearly we are going to have to grow fuels in the future, instead of 'growing' hydrogen in the Middle East or wherever, the question really should be what fuels should we grow and how and where, and how should we then burn them? -

Mazda 2 - fuel gauge stuck on full 18 Mar 2023 (Forum)
This is following a very flat battery, for reasons I'm too embarrassed to go into, so various electronic things got lost/reset. I suspect the fuel gauge problem is a consequence of that - needs some sort of recalibration? Or else it's just a broken sensor, and the flat battery is a coincidence. Any ideas/suggestions? -
Audi A1 - Petrol smell coming through air con 19 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Hi there, Audi a1 issue for 3 months now, full service been done, fuel filter replaced and fuel cap replaced. Air con sensor replaced, car checker over 5 times for any leaks, nothing showing on computer. Any ideas what could be causing this, fuel smell only comes through when stationary or low speeds, spent a bit of money trying to resolve anybody had the same issue.
