Uninsured loss recovery 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, I was wondering how to go about recovering our uninsured losses, such as fuel, telephone calls, courtesy car insurance, general inconvenience etc? Is there any way to quantify the inconvenience factor into £s.... We don't have the optional legal cover on the insurance - think its a waste of money. All help will be gratefully received. -
sat-nav. 16 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Now excuse my ignorance but how do these systems update themselves? do you have to pay a subcription? how does the toyota system compare with other car makes? What really are the in's and out's of the sat-nav world. Apologies if this type of thread has been covered before. -
Astra 2ldti oil consumption 19 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Sirs I recently purchased an Astra 2ldti 51 plate, the car has now covered some 18k miles, and I am currently using 1ltr of oil per 1k miles. The dealer tells me that this is acceptable and that consumption will drop as the car gets more miles under its belt. -
Flexible Insurance 26 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I recall HJ directing someone to an insurance company suitable for people who may have more than one older car on the drive (a Citroen BX or two) and may want or need to be covered on alternative cars as and when mechanical attention is needed. Does anyone recall this? btw - I'm being hard-sold Kwik-fit insurance at the moment. -
Passat Groans 28 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I've recently purchased a year old Passat 1.8T SE. I decided on this car after losing so much money on my previous Mondeo. I am very satisfied with the car but with one exception. The Dashboard groans and creaks with every imperfection in the road and around every bend. -
Effects of tar on paintwork 29 Jan 2002 (Forum)
At the height of the storms up here yesterday there was a utilities contactor trying to carry out some resurfacing/patching on one of the roads into Carlisle, and as SWMBO went past to work the car was literally covered in spots. We are now the owners of a Dalmation Sharan, there is not a panel that has been missed. I have duly logged a complaint with the relevant authority and have been given an estimate of £40 by a professional valeting firm to clean the car up. -
Courtesy car insurance 10 May 2012 (Forum)
I looked at my policy document and it says that I am covered for a courtesy car if mine is in for accident repairs with a garage recommended by the insurance company. I rang the insurance company and asked whether this extended to a courtesy car while my car was in for a service and they said no. -
Car tax and changing car 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
First time I have changed a car I own myself - tomorrow I'm getting a used car, with my current car in p/x. What happens regarding car tax? I know you can get tax refunded from DVLA so I suspect dealer will do this for the tax disc on the new car, so it will be given to me with no tax disc. -
Vauxhall Zafira - Ending Motor Trade Insurance & Using NCD in future 16 Sep 2025 (Forum)
I understand that some insurers accept NCD as a named driver and this named driver cover will be ongoing right up until I intend to get my own car again in the future. It's pretty unlikely I'll ever go back into the motor trade but I've heard stories that once you end your trade insurance, it can be difficult to obtain a new motor trade policy (even if you've held one for a long time before if there's a break in the cover) but that's something to consider in the unlikely event I go back into car sales in the future. -

Hi, Just got given a fusion 2010 petrol 1.4 with 145k Looked under the bonnet and appears that an air hose of some sort is missing It’s the one on the right hand side as you look at the engine, think it just clips onto the engine cover? Not sure what the actual part is called as I know nothing about cars! Any help would be appreciated- if I knew how to post a picture on here I’d do that as well! Thanks for looking -
Hyundai / Kia 1.0 T-GDi engine failures 2 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I was told today by a friend who’s 1.0 T-DGi Hyundai engine failed that it’s becoming a widespread issue due to cam chain catching the cam cover. Anyone have more information? Have Hyundai got a permanent fix? His car was towed into the dealers at the weekend, service centre rep told him they diagnosed the problem within a few minutes once they realised it was the 1.0 T-DGi model. -
BMW X1 - Warrenty 21 Jun 2022 (Forum)
When I went through the mot paperwork I noticed it says it has a small oil leek but nothing to be worried about. The car cost £7000. I'm asking should the warrenty cover the repair? Greatful for any advice. -
Any - Speed bumps 26 Nov 2021 (Forum)
even though I was very careful , very slow and smooth, on both occasions there was a horrible grating sound from the exhaust as the car went over. I drive an mpv so no low suspension. Any suggestions to avoid this, other than don't go, welcome. Is there any legislation covering speed bumps ? -
Mazda 2 2016 - Mazda Infotainment System keeps restarting 16 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Also i have found that it is difficult to use the steering wheel controls to scroll through my radio station favourites. The car is just over 1 week old and has covered under 500 miles. Has anybody else experienced this issue?. -
Vauxhall Vectra - Vectra Diesel Auto - Good Buy? 13 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Still looking for a sub-£3k auto (manual not an option) I have come across an 07 Vectra diesel (1.9). It has covered 80k and is priced at just under £3k. Is this a good buy and are there any points I should look for. TBH I am not a great diesel fan but then cannot afford to be over choosy. Any car I buy needs to take four adults in reasnoble comfort - other than that reliabilty is my main concern. -
Primera - condensation in rear light... 22 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The car is my son's freshly acquired 2000W Nissan Primera S. It's in gleaming red and at £2495 (50,000mls) looks like a good buy. Just one tiny niggle: I wonder if anyone else has experienced condensation inside the rear-light cover - in particular the bootlid-mounted reversing light? -

Mazda 323 F - Passenger Electric Window stopped working 24 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The nearside window has stopped going down leaving a 5cm gap, the offside works ok and, obviously, the fuse is ok. The car itself has only covered 50,000 miles and was garaged most of its life so I don't suspect water ingress anywhere near the motor. Is there something I could do just to get the window back up for the time being, electrical or otherwise? -
Any - Are Immigrants increasing the Cost of Insurance? 9 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Mine, living two miles away, but without an immigrant population, has gone down. We are similiar car owners, large ccs, few years old, similiar demography and history. She was told it was due to fraud, and the insurance companies not able to cover their costs in certain areas. In time this will push insrance up for all of us and I will be grateful for all your thoughts and ideas. -
