Suzuki Wagon R = Vauxhall Agila 2 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I opened the bonnet, and there is no Suzuki mark on the 1.2 L engine! In fact "GM" marked stickers are everywhere! In fact, coolant cap instructions were written in English & German. So, basically the car is Vauxhall Agila (at least engine & gearbox say so). So, why does Suzuki sell a Vauxhall car in their own name? -
Peugeot 306 1.8 XS whistling from dash 10 May 2007 (Forum)
I have been getting random air escaping and or whistling noises (the whistle can get loud) that sounds like it is coming from the steering column / dash area. My initial though was the heating system but the car is not overheating or loosing coolant and I have not been getting steam / condensation problems. This one has me stumped. It seems to do it even when the car is quite cold. I was temped to put a radiator sealer in just to try it but don't know if that would have any effect. -
Rover 220SDi 1997 Poor Cold Starting 18 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Poor cold starting manifest by a lot of cranking and engine then finally starts. Poor cold idle. I have checked the engine coolant temp sensor removed from car, about 3.3kOhms when in nearly freezing water down to approx 300R in hot water. Checked for heater voltage, none apparent although relay works ok. + 12V present at relay, earths through ECU for correct operation. -
Audi A2 problem 29 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi I have had my A2 for 3 years. Always serviced by Audi Garage. The car has developed a coolant issue which apparently Audi can't resolve - they have been in contact with Audi Germany who say to replace the engine. As the car is 3 years old and has done 120k miles they are basically saying the car has had it. -
VW Polo 1.9D 1998(S) Rough Idle 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have removed the EGR valve and cleaned it, checked that it does open and close, replaced vacuum hoses and even replaced the coolant temp sensor (as advised by VW!) and it still does it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. (Forgot to mention the year in original post) -
VAG hose clips (tip) 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
When changing the radiator on my 2000 Passat TDI, I needed a new spring retaining clip for the "bottom hose" as the old one had rusted away, (see post "Passat coolant loss"). These are not available individually unless you buy a completely new hose (suprise, suprise), but VAG sell a part number "6Q0122291F" which is an adaptor/drain assembly which has this clip fitted and costs approx. £3 with VAT. -
6 'Fan' belts shredded!! 1997 VW Polo 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Thanks to all of you. My problem is a 1997 VW Polo 1.9 L Diesel. It's shredded 6 'fan' (alternator, coolant pump & power steering) belts in 4 months, with only 2000 miles done. The ribbed V belts look like they've been scored into between the 4th & 5th rib. Three garages can't see any rubbing & are at a loss. £600 has not remedied the problem. -
Hissing problem on mk1 mondeo 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I havent managed to isolate the exact location of the hissing, plan to look again in the morning, although it does appear to be coming from just below the distributor area. Im 99% sure its air, as there are no visable signs of coolant loss. Is this major? Surely a drop in airpressure will just result in low mpg... any thoughts or ideas to this problem? Hopefully its just a hole in a pipe which can be fixed easily (not sure how that would happen!) -
Transportation of broken down car 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
My car lost most of its coolant - probably via the head gasket - the other night. RAC recovered it to my house as it was late and only a mile away. Unfortunately, my level of cover does not extend to recovery beyond a 10 mile radius. -
1992 Passat cooling system/temp gauge 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Does this mean it isnt getting round the engine since its not getting hot? I drained, flushed and refilled the system with coolant a couple of weeks ago, but didnt remove the thermostat (realised this after reading grahamf1's post this month!). Could this be causing the problem....but it rises when stationery!! Cheers, T -- Remember, fun is the key, but remain seated at all times or you may die. -
Xantia 2.0 16valve waterleak 5 Aug 2004 (Forum)
When I top it up it empties to half full again later in the day. I can't see any leaks, but it is losing coolant from somewhere behind the engine, which leans towards the driver so there is a blindspot from above. On previous leaks, in other cars, I've seen water sprayed around the engine bay under pressure, or the heater matrix has dumped the contents into footwells, there's no sign of this. -
passat tdi stop sign illuminating 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It only seems to happen when car has been left parked up for a couple of days or more and does not stay on long enough to show the fault (oil presure, coolant level, brake fluid etc). Put the car into VW to have it plugged into the vag com no faults recorded. Incidently the car has covered 58,000 miles from new full vw service and extra oil change between services. -
Longevity - How long do you keep yours ? 25 Nov 2003 (Forum)
A quick trawl of neighbours and relatives reveals that most of them are rich enough to buy a new car every couple of yrs or so and chop it in, or they're on company cars - ditto. Why on earth would they bother treating the car with kid gloves , changing oil, coolant, brake fluid etc. Of course this may well be done for them under warranty etc. So, how long do you keep yours ? And do you look after it to prolong its life for you, or for someone else in the future ?? -
Golf MkII Heater blows cold 25 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Unfortunately, the heater refuses to blow anything warmer than room temperature air. It does however, blow some hot for a few seconds before cooling. At a recent service, some coolant additive was put in the resevoir in an effort to remove any blockages in the matrix pipes. This seems not to have helped. I have arrived at the conclusion, therefore that the matrix needs replacing. -

Pre purchase banger checks. 25 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Radio/Interior electrics. Drive Shaft Boots Compression test (Is this over kill?) Listen for rattles at all revs Coolant Oil Brake noise Does it drive straight with hands off wheel Ditto under braking. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads. -
Clio Auto Warning Light 9 Sep 2002 (Forum)
There is no pattern to when the light comes on, it can be almost immediately on starting the car or after any number of miles. The coolant and gearbox oil have been changed and there is nothing wrong with the gearbox (in that it seems to be changing up and down as expected and the position of the comfort/sports setting swich still retains an impact). -
Overheating 23 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Why oh why do some people drive on regardless when the temperature guage is in the red and steam coming from under the bonnet? We have had a Rover 416 brought in to us from the nearby M5 suffering from coolant loss/overheating. The engine had got so hot the plastic cambelt covers and other associated plasticwork on the engine had melted! The reply 'Oh, I just wanted to get off the motorway, I was only half a mile form the junction' is all to common. -
Advice Regarding garage issues 23 Jun 2007 (Forum)
He apologised for the problems. I drove away again. Over the next few weeks, I found myself topping up with coolant every couple of days. Surely not right. I took the plastic engine undertray off (Which was again flooded with coolant), and low and behold, coolant was dripping off the ends of the radiator. I went back again. -
Citroen Grand C4 Picasso - Liability for gasket head, cambelt, water pump etc 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
The desk man said they would fill up the coolant and I could take it away as they were busy(which is what I told my husband on the phone), only to be told 10 mins later that it would be dangerous to drive and he recommended I didn't drive the car as it would cause more damage.
