Volvo 240 severed tailgate wire 29 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My car is a 1992 Volvo 240 SE manual 5-gear estate. Hopefully this is a more straightforward problem than my last post! Thank you for the answers. The problem is that the wire that runs to the high break-light has severed at the tailgate hinge. -
Gutted. My new car is old already! 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Very proud of my fab Volvo S60 D5. Upset that today I find out that there is now a new D5 engine with 185 bhp (mine 163bhp) and 400nm Torque (mine 340nm) 0-62mph at 8.5 secs (mine 9.2 or 9.5 depending on which Volvo brochure you read) and a 6 speed gearbox (mine has 5 but could do with a higher gear). -
Volvo 850 again... 5 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi all Further to the auto box query I've found a couple more.... (Volvo 850 GLT M reg, 2.0 20 valve, auto saloon) There are two diagnostic units adjacent to the washer resovoir. On unit A (with the fly lead) instead of an led and rubber button I have some soldering, a mounted led (looks functional) and two small circular contacts that would have been beneath the original rubber button (obviously the mounting cap that held the original button has been knocked off/damaged. -
Convoluted relationships 11 Feb 2004 (Forum)
It seems that the car manufacturing world gets more and more convoluted by the day. We have the likes of Ford owning Volvo Cars, Jaguar, and Aston Martin, and with a stake in Mazda, the Fiesta having some engines with Yamaha cylinder heads, and courtesy of parent Ford, the new V8 engines for the Volvo XC90 and S80 also being Yamaha sourced. -

Honda Accord Tourer - Dull, dull, dull 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I've recently got rid of my lovely Volvo V70 D5 SE - a car which was comfortable, quick enough, felt good to drive and had a certain sense of occasion about it. Why did it have to go? 'cos at 147k miles the gearbox needed a rebuild (dodgy bearing), the suspension needed replacing and the injectors were on the way out. -
Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.5 Failed pulley wheel & cracked engine casing 23 Jul 2009 (Forum)
V70 D5 service 4 weeks ago, and mentioned (and had documented) a whining noise coming from the engine that was related to engine revs not roadspeed, and asked for this to be diagnosed and fixed during the service. The service was a big one and cost over £1500 all in from the local volvo dealer, and they advised that the whining noise could be coming from the power steering pump as the fluid level had been low due to a leak which I advised them about and which was also fixed during the service. -

Going electric? 29 Mar 2022 (Forum)
As it was damaged by a third party I doubt the Volvo paintwork warranty would cover it plus it means a trip to the other side of the country to the nearest Volvo approved body shop to let them say no to me. I took my eye off the ball and got caught out. -
Recommend me a used car 1 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Current car has been great - averaged 48mpg, zero road tax, spacious and a good engine with plenty of power. However it seems that used Volvos really aren't as cheap as they were when I purchased my V60! Also considering Audi, BMW, Mercedes - not sure about other brands as they seem to be underpowered (VW) or often butt ugly (Skoda). Open to hearing otherwise though! -
When buying a car - Reception at dealerships 31 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Recently, when looking at nearly new cars I have had the following experiences. Volvo , excellent reception and good salesman, but no recent volvo petrols available. Vauxhall, saleman came out quickly but just lost interest quickly too. (insignia petrol fairly low on my list) Toyota, again very helpful, yes sir test drive when you want, ask anything you want, good impressions. -

Autopilot fitted to cars. Would you trust it? 25 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The only steering and braking would be done by a professional driver at the front of the convoy. However the system, being developed by Volvo, could lead to a rethinking of the traditional ?braking distances? in the Highway Code. Volvo expects the cars to drive just 3ft apart in order to stay in contact. Full article at http://tinyurl.com/l5g8ua (links to The Sunday Mail, but also mentioned in other papers as well) -
