  • Should I foot the bill for a mechanic's mistake? 30 Oct 2016 (Ask HJ)

  • Inefficiency of Electric and Hybrid Electric Cars 9 Jul 2014 (Forum)
If the IC engine had been 'invented' before the electric car and the steam engined car at the end of the 19th Century, then the electric car would probably never have been seriously considered for anything other than certain 'niche' applications such as milk delivery 'floats' as the 'start/stop' nature of this activity is ideally suited to electric propulsion.
  • MGZS Remind you of anything - GM parts bin bits 19 Sep 2018 (Forum)
There appears to be a school of thought that the powertrain of the ZS is being built "just good enough" low towing weight, low torque? remind anyone of Astra gearboxes? (GM bits) Although I liked driving the car as a day to day thing on a test drive (or 3 )..... ok on all counts, but only that. I decided to stick with the KIA venga. Someone waiting more than 6 weeks for a windscreen already, spare wheels not available?
  • Any - MoT 3 Aug 2016 (Forum)
A few weeks ago I put my car in for the annual M o T test, it passedO.K with a few advisories ,one of which was windscreen view obstruction. This consisted of the mounting for the sat-nav which was as low as I could get it slightly to the right of the center of the screen, the old road tax disc mounting, and an old MoT pass sticker about 5 cms. square in the top left hand corner of the screen.
  • Citroen C5 - Window washer sticking in C5 19 Aug 2010 (Forum)

  • BMW - BMW Depreciation question 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
What percentage of list price should I expect to pay for one six months old and 12 months old assuming 10K miles per year? (Her previous car had a "mishap" at the local garage when in for a minor repair this week - needs a new bonnet, windscreen, and the roof is less than perfect! Despite BMW servicing the two stage bonnet catch had seized up and it was not properly down.......)
  • Vectra Rain Sensors 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
At the beginning of 2004 Vauxhall seemed to have dropped the rain sensor/auto dim rear view mirror unit as standard on the LS models. Having had a number of hire cars with this feature I quite liked it. I have recently got a 2004 LS, which obviously does not have this feature. Is it something that could be retrofitted at it looks like it would be something that is simply stuck to the inside of the windscreen and connected to a power source.
  • Replacing the Glass in a Fiesta tailgate 8 May 2005 (Forum)
m going to have to go and buy the rubber fitting fro my local ford dealer, but I?m unsure as to have a go myself or ask a windscreen company to fit it for me. Is this something the likes of Auto Glass etc would do? Cheers Paul
  • Passat 2001 Battery Removal 24 Jun 2004 (Forum)
    1) How do you get the battery out after removing the large plastic panel - does the other plastic panel up against the windscreen have to be removed? If so, do the wipers have to come off? 2) Are there likely to be problems with the car electrics/electronics? I know that the radio will have to be recoded but is anything else likely to be affected?
  • Ford Focus - How many reverse lights does a Ford Focus Mk2 have 2 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Surely, it must have more reverse lighting than the tiny one low down on the bumper. If there should be one either side of the rear windscreen then please can someone point me to a good video to change them as they are not working. Thanks.
  • Is there a variable windscreen wiper rate relay available for my Honda CR-V? 5 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • Volkswagen Golf III - Coolant temp normal - heater temp is luke warm 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The engine temperature warms up as normal in a few minutes. The blower temp is warmish but blows cold if I turn the fan up to de-mist the windscreen. Is there a thermostat somewhere that needs replacing? If so where? Thanks

  • Clearalex or Rain-x? 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Which product is better for keeping the windscreen clear - Clearalex or Rain-x? I have never tried Clearalex and in another thread BRers are sounding off about Rain-x, a rough guess gives about 10-1 against the use of Rain-x. Should I try Clearalex - who sells it?
  • 106 wiper problem 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
on a 1997 106 1.5d the windscreen wiper works on all functions but when on constant the wiper will stop and start across the screen. If the wiper stalk is wiggled it may make the wipers continue their sweep, but when they are working the wiggling may also make the wipers stop.
  • Rover 45 heater air dsitribution 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Alls well except the air distribution control turns but the air still comes out on the face vents. Turning it has no impact and I can't put the air up to the windscreen. Is it hard to investigate this or am I due a visit to a garage? Thanks
  • Can a service period be that long? 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I bought my Renault Megane Alize in January 2001, with 19,000 on the clock. A sticker on the inside of the windscreen says, next service at 36,000 miles or January 2003. I have just reached 30,000 another six months to reach 36,000. Can the service period be really 18 months or more?
  • Ford Fiesta Zetec S - Will it scuff,scratch the bumper/bonnet/front of t 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I parked a bit too close where there was bushes/branches, Will it scuff, scratch the bumper/bonnet/front of the car?   I turned left into the parked space but, I was park squint so so I tried to correct it by moving forward the car so I can straighten up but I think I moved a bit too much which meant the front was touching the leaves/branches.
  • Front Tyre Lifetime 16 May 2005 (Forum)
How long would you expect a set of fronts to last on a front wheel drive car? Obviously, I tend to drive rather harshly so expect them to last accordingly. Just curious what others tend to get out of theirs in terms of years/miles?
