  • Volkswagen Polo 1.2 2010 - VW Polo 2010: EPC light on for the third time 13 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Before all of this, the EPC light was on and my accelerator was also really weak, my dad was driving it to take it to be fixed and the car stopped on the way had to be towed. I paid around £450 that time around, last week £100 and now it's on again I just don't know what to do? This is my first car and I know very little on warning lights and cars for the matter and I've only had the car for 3 months I just don't know whether to take it back to be fixed for the light to just come on again?

  • 1.9 cdti with dpf - Dpf and/or engine experts please help 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi all Trying to find out whats wrong with my motor Using the car as taxi, lot of town driving , no motorway sometimes for weeks First the lack of powerat around 75k miles, felt like the turbo was held back, kept on driving anyway, two weeks later, big "exhaling" sound as it can be from an engine and just stopped. Towed, although when cooled could be started again. Into Vauxhall, changed manifold and dpf and they said I had a lot of excess oil. Genuine manifold, aftermarket dpf. Since then, when regening, huge blue smoke comes out and doing the process for way too long and sometimes too often and excessive oil builds up Could it be that some kind of seal gave in, when I was driving for too long without turbo and in the mean time the dpf clogged up, so maybe the pressure that built up for these reasons just led the weakest seal to break?
  • mini one clubman'59 plate - mini one clubman '59 will not start at all 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)

Everyone flummoxed as to the cause of the problem....anyone any ideas?  (unfortunately I have lost 2nd key, so only one fob) At the moment am sitting with an immobilised car in front of our house, with no one local able to help.....anyone had a similar problem

  • Nissan Terrano II (1993 - 2005) - 99 2.7 failed tail-lights 24 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I haven't yet taken them all apart, anybody know the colour code for the loom? Bulbs OK, no power to bulbs though. Co-incidently perhaps, I couldn't find power on tow contacts. I don't have any wiring diagrams, though possibly available on the internet. Especially for link to tail-light cluster and towbar? One more Q, have I missed a fusebox? I ask because I have only seen the main box to the left of the engine, but when I bought the car, I found some bigger fuses in the glove box.
  • VW Golf GT TDi 140 - Tensioner stud shears in VW Golf - any recompense? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
VW have introduced a replacement stud into their kits as of August 2013. Garage say not their fault. £70 for tow truck, £195 for Dekra, ~£500 to check engine, need new cylinder head, so further cost just over £3k in car worth max £4,500. Any point taking this further with VW given previous posts on this on HJ?
  • Ford Mondeo ghia tdci 2007 2L - Damsel in distress Ford mondeo start up issues 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I'm at my wits end, it all started with dmf going got this replaced with starter etc and ever since egm light been on start up fine for last month then One morning car drove fine down to shop then dead battery 5 mins later on start up, got jump start battery reading 8v,  wouldn't start after that long enough with jump start so had to get it towed,  Mechanic advised New battery but replaced with lead alkaline, I have read it needs to be silver calcium due to smart charge and I believe this is part of issue as 24 hours later car won't start again but when new battery was installed it read at 14v but I read this voltage would indicate smart charge faulty somewhere as should read around 16v?
  • Renault Megane Scenic 01 - Used Car 13 days out of dealer and cam belt snaps 9 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Where do I stand please with this, I cannot afford the £400+ parts costs to repair it and the cars available in our price range are just not suitable for our needs (must have a large car for various reason) and all in that range now are small 3 dr cars.  Not only that but to return the car is a cost of £150 for towing, waiting around with 2 children whilst they inspect, getting home etc.  Any advice please?
  • Honda civic diesel - Cambelt failure liability 2 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I have a Honda Civic 2005 (diesel) which broke down while on the road. The recovery mechanic suspected a cambelt failure. The car was towed to the dealer where I bought the car and where the servicing has been done. The dealer has undertaken an initial inspection and has indicated that they think the engine had a catastrophic failure which  resulted in the cambelt failing.
  • Peugot 306 1999 1.9l Estate - Starting Issue 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Left it overnight and it started first thing but drive 1/2 mile and switched off... same problem, would not start. The problem was intermittent until eventually acomplete stop and a tow home with the AA forced a fuel pump actuator solenioid change. After changing it, the car started first time (yesterday). I drove around switching on and off all day without a problem but again this morning, nothing!
  • Peugeot 306 - New wiper motor - dodgy wipers still 4 Feb 2013 (Forum)
On the way down to Cornwall last week, my wipers packed up. During some heavy rain. Visibility = zero. It pained me to get towed back, but there you go. Can't drive if you can't see. Anyway, I had a new wiper motor fitted at my local garage. Drove it home. Made the mistake of not testing them there & then as I was late for something.
  • Renault Espace - Failed repair to alternator 14 Apr 2012 (Forum)
When we returned to UK we visited the garage (in Yorkshire) who told us they wouldn't give a refund as we should have had car towed back to them!   We have also had to pay the French garage for all the new parts they have fitted and pay towards our extra night accommodation. Please could you advise?
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - yr 2004 - ECU pin corrosion 28 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It turned out that one of the pins in the ECU connector had corroded away because water got into it. Got the car towed to the garage, solution sir; new ECU + new wires + labour, total cost = £1400 HELP! No one has touched these wires since the car left the factory, the connectors to the ECU is protected by a plastic "boot" held in place with a tie wrap, not exactly very water proof.
  • Ford Focus - Turbo blown, 1 week old, where do we stand? 1 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I've had a turbo go in a car a week old, this has been confirmed and verified via the AA and an independednt garage, the turbo is blown and had to be towed by the AA. The dealer has offered to have the turbo repaired but by the garage of his choice and has also stated that he is only required by law to make a contribution and not the whole fee- which I think is arrant rubbish but you may tell me otherwise.
  • Skoda Octavia 1.6 Elegance Estate - Fault Code 16706 5 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Once cold again and/or reset codes, car starts and runs fine.  Recently, car stalled and wouldn't re-start and towed to garage who replaced starter motor, but codes still appearing and car still running lumpy after 'warm' restart as above. Have been told it could be Impulse Sensor or Engine Speed Sensor oiling up. 6 months ago car had reconditioned engine as previous one losing/burning oil, so sensor may indeed be oily.
  • Seat Arosa 1.0i 1999 R reg - Seat Arosa starting problems 2 Dec 2011 (Forum)
This first manifested itself as intermittent losses of power when driving and progressed to having to turn the engine over for ages to get a start. It eventually broke down completely and she had it towed to the nearest garage. They have cleaned the breather pipes, replaced plugs and cables and done a few other things (I don't have details as information is coming via my girlfriend) but the problem still seems to be present and they seem to be clutching at straws now.
  • Insurance Advice Needed, Please 16 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, I need some insurance advice, please. My girlfriend and I were invovled in an accident earlier this year when we were towing our caravan. Essentially, we were approaching a small roundabout and wanted to turn right. As we did so, a car came up in the left lane and, as we had swung out to complete the maneouvre we clipped his front wing.
  • Volkswagen passat - Passat 2006 1.9 TDI engine won't start 20 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Few days ago I wake up in the morning start my engine, went to work with my passat 2006 1.9 (engine BKC)TDI estate , after about 10 miles, my dashboard quickly flash I lost the power and the engine stops. After that I can't start the engine at all, I get towed to vw centre, they made diagnostic with scanner didn't find any false only 1 glow plug not working (i do believe it not big effect on my problem), later they made wiring loom and they advise me to change the turbo, but they not guarantee that after changing turbo the engine will start, also i don't believe that turbo not working because before the engine stops it works perfect.
  • Toyota RAV-4 (1994 - 2000) - 1996 2.0 Immobiliser problem 22 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Have spoken to a helpful techie at my nearest Toyota dealer ( over 20 miles away) My options are ( if i can somehow get car towed or transported over there) 1: Have "zapper" unit re-programmed, if still dead, 2: Have ECU in car re-programmed. 3: If above fails, have all wiring associated with immobiliser removed, but noted that they do not have wiring diagrams, so would have to be traced through.
