Motoring myths 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
By chance, they had locked their guns onto an over-flying military aircraft and launched one of its missiles. For a number of scientific and operational reasons, this is impossible. 4. Avoid paying your fine Have you heard the one about the double-bluff way to avoid points on your license? If you send a cheque for more than the amount of the fine, the issuing authority has to refund the difference. If you don't cash the cheque they send back, they can't add the points to your license because the full transaction isn't complete. -
Possible Fraudulent MOT and dishonest dealer 8 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The parking sensor had not been fixed and I was told it hasn't arrived yet. We agreed that I will contact them next week for the sensor, they offered to take the car provide a replacement car or send one to my location, as I live an hour away from the dealership, in a different city. -
BMW 318i 2006 - Fuel Leak on Used Car - What Do I Do? 9 Sep 2019 (Forum)
As it was relatively small, I thought little of it. I've now found that the car is leaving 2 stains in my parking space - 1 at the front which is probably the oil leak & another at the rear in front of the rear wheel near the fuel flap. Have noticed an occasional fuel smell from the rear, but it wasn't always apparent. -
Once Upon a Time...a sad tale 15 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It eluded capture but left trails all over the roof lining and windows. But, I told myself, this was fine. People are different. Some care about these things, some don't. But one day, not so long ago the contract expired on the Blue Car Thing. It had seemed a good idea at the time, Contract Hire - get a new car, easy monthly payments. -
Am I jinxed or a bad driver? (long post) 25 May 2006 (Forum)
I can't go into my left lane because there is a coach parked there, but while moving into my right lane this guy decides to overtake me because 25 mph or so is obviously not fast enough for him. We end up inches from each other with both of us hitting the brakes. -

Lexus RX300 2006 62k mileage £4500 - Used vehicle not fit for purpose, dealer arguing 14 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I recently bought a Lexus RX300 2006 with 62k mileage for £4500 MOT was 10th Feb 2020, bought it on 10th May 2020. Test drive fine and everything seemed to run ok. 10 days later took for a full service and the garage told me the bad news about it having massive corrosion underneath with corroded pipes, major oil leak, parking brake broken, tyre down to the rim. -
2003 VW Passat 1.9 litre TDI, 140,000 miles. - My car is blowing up batteries! =/ 12 Apr 2020 (Forum)
I was driving down the road and my car just died, no warning, no nothing every thing just turned off. Luckily I was able to pull over to a parking space. I checked the battery which had zero voltage so I thought the battery had an internal short. To verify I plugged in a small cheap car just starter which instantly exploded! I thought that this was just because it was a cheapo jump starter which couldn't handle being plugged into a shorted battery. -

Why is my Astra going into limp mode? 2 Sep 2016 (Ask HJ)
My 2010 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SRI went into 'limp mode' yesterday, I've recently had to fork out for a brand new automatic gearbox that set me back a bit.... -
Opinions required 23 May 2016 (Forum)
So, firstly does PCP make any sense in my situation (have worked out the sums and that is fine, including the extra for additional mileage) as it would mean I could keep switching the car (as they seem to keep getting problems when they hit higher mileage) Secondly, what car would you recommend to me? -
Ford Mondeo losing power - what could the problem be? 31 Jul 2013 (Ask HJ)
My 2005 Ford Mondeo TDCi has started losing power and, most recently, the power cut out completely. After a few tries, it restarted, but now sounds like... -
Volkswagen Golf V estate (2007 - ) - - first impressions 29 Sep 2007 (Forum)
So with very little delay, as there was one with parking sensors in the VW system, a VW Golf estate 2.0 TDI replaced the B-class last Wednesday, with not a wet eye in the house. So far so good - very good. Best things - Even from brand new, there's plenty of response to the accelerator. -
The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 15 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
So it surprised his neighbours when police pulled up on his drive in July with an arrest warrant for non-payment of speeding fines. He has made four court appearances in less than three years and he has accumulated 26 penalty points on his driving licence. ?I am an ordinary man who is being criminalised,? he says. For years, North says, he has driven with an unblemished record. -
Don't try this at home. 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
%^%&ing hell ! No oil. Dad arrives, start it up, it sounds a bit lumpy and then ticks over fine nicely on a blip of the pedal, smoke everywhere. I have a pint of the usual oil in the boot for top-ups and we decide to pour it in to at least get something in there. Start it for a while to get it around the engine. -
DFSK/DFM 17 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Of interest to me is that there are 2 payload options with the van, the higher of these, 750kg, would suit me fine. And whilst it also is not something you would ever choose to have an accident in, current models do at have ABS. So, at least in theory, you have a better chance of avoiding an accident!. Thanks -
Buying My First Car - Need Advice 26 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I know oil leaks are usually a instant no go.. the engine cap having a mayo like substance usually means the head gasket has gone etc. If the car runs fine and has no knocks or bangs coming from the engine, no smoking and seems completely mechanically sound.. then how much do you guys think I should realistically pay?.. seller has it listed at £1495. -
Audi A3 - Second hand car troubles - rights? 1 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Sunday July 22nd I bought an Audi A3 (2006) for my pregnant wife to use as her family car when the baby comes later this year. 63,000 miles (petrol) and we paid £4,100 cash. Car drove fine in test drive, no problems mentioned by the dealer. During the drive home the ESP light came on fleetingly and my wife said she felt like she lost power; I spoke to the dealer and they said it was likely as the car had not been driven for a while and it was blowing the 'cobwebs out' (I realise how ridiculous this may sound to people who know about cars; I am unfortunately not one of these people). 2 days later the car has lost power again when my wife is parking, she has pressed the accelerator and it has lurched toward (it's an auto) causing the door to be scratched/dented slightly. -
BMW 3 Series Coupe - 2007 320d E92 - engine shaking/ loss of power 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I've only had the car for a couple of months now and a few weeks ago the battery decided to die only a few hours of being parked up, so it was jump started with another car and since then the car sounded like a tractor. I took it to a BMW specialist who adviced me not to drive it and bring it to him the next day to have it checked out. -
Pensioner Leads Police On 27 Mile Chase At 10mph 9 Oct 2011 (Forum)
