The remote locking on my Focus is very intermittent, sometimes it can work from 30 metres, other times it wont work until i've pressed the button 5 or so times. Could this be the battery, if so which way is the cheapest to replace the battery? Thanks

  • I Have A Question - Volume 79 19 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My wife and I are off to China in October, but her digital camera has its own rechargeable battery. I'm sure one of the extremely nice correspondents on this forum can tell me what kind of electrical sockets are to be found in China so we can buy an appropriate adaptor to charge up the battery.
  • Astra 1.6 2011 - False electric hand brake warnings 16 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Hi, After a recent flat battery i am getting false "take handbrake off" warnings when travelling at low speeds. I'm assuming this is a symptom of the battery discharging? Does it need a scanner to clear codes or re-set handbrake sensor?
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2002 1.8 faulty alarm 10 Apr 2013 (Forum)
My alarm keeps going off after leaving the car for about half an hour. I have read that it could be the power sounder battery or the main car battery. Do you think this is likely and what is the best way of finding the fault before visiting Mr Vauxhall thanks Mikeymike

  • Any - Analysis of Rechargeable Battery - Electric Cars 16 Jul 2014 (Forum)
The nominal efficiency of the process is further diminished in the use of mains electricity in our homes to charge up the 400 volt 5/10/22/24 kWh 'battery' in an electric (EV) or in a petrol-electric hybrid (PEHV) car or motorcycle. Typically between 30 and 50% more electricity than is actually stored as usable energy in the battery, has to be 'drawn from the mains' in the battery charging process.

  • Peugeot 306 D Turbo - 306 D Turbo (1998) Immobiliser operation 14 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Rocking the car in gear didn't help, so I don't think the starter is jammed... It's a Phase 2 car, with IR 2 button plip & transponder chip in the key, new batteries fitted last week. Plip has lock/unlock and deadlock buttons - the car locks/unlocks fine with the remote, and the battery still powers lights, windows etc. (I've also swapped a second known good battery and tried that - no different.
  • Vauxhall Astra Mk 5 2.0 Petrol - Misfire after 30 seconds. 12 May 2020 (Forum)
I am a competent engineer so able to check things but have absolutely no knowledge of engines. I have the following thoughts but any advice would be most welcome. A) As the battery has been flattened could it be the battery is not good enough for the spark to be ok on each cylinder causing a misfire? I thought once a car was started it should run which would rule out the battery?
  • ANY - New Battery Charging Behaviour? 10 Nov 2017 (Forum)
So by my reckoning its had about an indicated 70Ah at this point.  So a couple of questions Is this normal for a freshly flooded battery, which this was supposed to be? Whats the optimal charging regime for a new battery? As low current as possible, as I've usually done with "dumb" chargers in the past) or trust the chargers alleged smarts and set it to "car"?
  • Vauxhall Corsa B - Dashboard on/off with out key in ignition 24 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I tried few things but couldnt find a solution. I finally took the courage and took it to the local vauxhall garage, who are saying a faulty battery is causing it. I feel they got the problem the other way around.. since the dashboard lights come up randomly, it is draining the battery. Thats £200 quid for not knowing what is causing the problem and a battery replacement.
  • Mazda 121 - 1.3 - 1996 - Draining Battery 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
All off When I put a multi-meter acoss the live battery terminal to earth, it indicated a  full short, which is a little worrying... Should that happen, surely that is dangerous? Disconnected the alternator, short still there. There are 3 wires going to the positive terminal, a chunking big one that has the battery connection on the end and 2 smaller cables connected to it.
  • Volkswagen Touran MPV (2003 - ) - Warning of impending car breakdown 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Needless to say, the battery had not been charging all day long. The alternator belt had come off the pulley - hopefully the VW garage will have worked out why when they get around to looking at on Monday. Now, I feel peeved that a system which provides a nice clear warning about a drop in engine coolant level cannot similarly warn the user that the car is failing to charge its battery and is in imminent danger of coming to a complete halt.
