All - Recent Changes Highway Code 2 May 2022 (Forum)
The much advertised changes about horses and pedestrians which have stated that we must now give way to horses crossing roads etc has been looked at, I went and bought a copy of the highway code and I can tell you that apart from the usual rules of not being allowed to run over slow road users, there is NOTHING that states horses or cyclists have any extra right of way then they did before. Horse Rules are 49-55, 163, 187, 214, 215, 253. Cyclists Rules are 59-82, 211-213, 253. -
Skoda Fabia Estate - New car advice 6 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I read only good things about this car, but I'm always willing to listen to advice of someone more experienced than myself. Maybe other recommendations for a small, but not too small car, fairly cheap to run and maintain? Other thing is, as currently I'm living away from my friends and family and have no one who can help me with car advice so I'm really not comfortable in trusting used car's dealers, it would be really easy to screw me over with anything really. -
VW ID-3 test drive 4 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I had a good hour-long run in a VW ID-3 today. Very much as expected. Certainly good to drive, with plenty of oomph and safe, neutral handling. Not a huge amount of difference between the driving modes Eco, Comfort and Sport. -
Vauxhall corsa S Ecoflex - Car turning just not starting 28 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I've read a few forums on the internet and it could be a list of things, I just think if the car was running fine before I stalled it, wouldn't it be more likey be a wiring or pump issue rather than replacing the timing chain? I know literally nothing about cars, but just having the car 6 months and then something as big as this going wrong because I stalled the car seems a little much for me. -
Ford Fiesta - EAC Fail 7 May 2020 (Forum)
In that case I got it serviced asked them about it and they said they would plug it in. No fault codes, nothing. Car is all good runned for 300 further miles when the light came on again but this time after it went off a minute later the car completely died on me with an EAC Fail coming on at the mileage part of the dash. Got it towed off where I got it serviced they could not do anything as the car seems to be fully immobilised so when i turn the ignition on the padlock flashes. -
Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle 1.9 TDi PD 102 T30 - VW T5, fault code P0236, loss of power advice p 4 Feb 2020 (Forum)
- Checked the air hoses that I can see / get to easily. I'm convinced I can hear a hissing sound when standing over the engine with it running, but it could be anything. It may sound strange, but the van 'feels' like it's performance has improved slightly, but unfortunately the symptom persists. I've used the OBD to reset the fault code at several steps above, but at no point has the power returned. -
ANY - Helping Conscientious Drivers Avoid Speeding Fines 31 Jan 2020 (Forum)
When can we expect European car makers to implement fully effective cruise control and speed limiting systems in their cars? As it stands, conscientious motorists run the risk of receiving unwelcome speeding fines when going down hill (for example) even when either the speed limiter or cruise control mechanisms have been manually and correctly set and engaged. Surely the car makers could modify the control algorithms currently employed in most volume production cars to gently apply the brakes when descending hills in order to prevent any significant speed increase (due to gravity) and thus keep the vehicle comfortably within ‘the guidelines and actual tolerances and limits’ used by UK Police Forces and Speed Camera Agencies? -
Fuel Saving Driving Techniques 31 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Clearly, this technique works best in flat country regions such as Essex, Cambridge, Lincolnshire etc and relies upon the fact that in general motorways and dual carriageways are never laid flat for any significant distance but are, by EU law, laid with gradients no steeper than 1 in 20 (5%) and no flatter than 1 in 120 (0.8%) in order to aid the run off of rainwater and thus prevent the accumulation of surface rainwater that could lead to aquaplaning at high speeds. 2011.6 powershift4 Ford Bmax - Ford Bmax transmission judder 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Seems i'm not the only soul with this problem. Why have'nt they all been recalled by Ford? The warrenty runs out in march, presumably that includes the powerdrive clutch. The service book has been completed per the 3rd year service. I will ask the dealer if that service included replacement of the clutch fluid. -
When a Yaris won't do... 16 May 2018 (Forum)
I steered her towards it in the first place because it's "a Japanese petrol manual" and that seems to have been a good move, because apart from normal servicing, brakes and tyres it's never need any work other than replacing the driver's door mirror on more than a couple of occasions due to her driving "style" :-( She only does about 6000 miles a year so fuel economy has been acceptable, generally running at about 38 mpg on average. Of course it has never needed a cam belt as that engine is chain cam. It had an MOT in March and passed without problems and has a short 70,000 on the odometer now. -
Ford Focus Zetec - ECU failure not covered by warranty 21 Mar 2018 (Forum)
We declined to pay these costs, collected the car from Ford on December 18th 2017 and were charged £42.49 – a ‘token gesture’ of a 50% discount for a “Vehicle Health Check”. At the beginning of February 2018, the car again showed signs of rough running and was taken to Liss Garage Services. Stewart checked the wiring to the fuel injectors, which was fine and so he suggested having the ECU tested and if necessary replaced. This was done at a cost of £760.20. -
Old - Punk Technology Filter Restriction Guage/Decoker 15 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I put a couple of #22 needles with about a 70 degree bend in them through a washer built up from inner-tube rubber under the air cleaner hold down butterfly. The passenger side (blue) one runs into a bottle of fridge melt***er (I would normally use aircon condensate but its seasonally unavailable. Might have to distill for a while). The bottle breathes through an inline filter (referred to as a transducer filter in the dialysis literature IIRC). -
2005 VW Transporter. Maybe changing it? 26 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Oh this morning looks like the rear lock is failing too..... As a vehicle it is ok, but, our business needs are changing as we are running stationary hives and it is also big, heavy and not great on fuel. If we do need to go on the motorway it gets really noisy and is a bit slow....... Also the diesel side of things worry me as it is currently doing lots of stop start and short trips and this is only going to get worse in the coming years as even the longest trip will probably be half an hour each way. -
Honda Civic - Honda Civic - Is this car a good buy? 8 Nov 2017 (Forum)

Mazda 3 - Car sold with no service history. Advice/Feedback 21 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Finance company have told me that they have 55 days to come to a decision, meanwhile i'm driving a tin can from Stoneacre that is costing me £7 a day to insure which runs out tomorrow, plus the cost of a hire car for the first week. Thanks for reading. -
Any - Cars for tall people (6' 4")? - and my experience. 26 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I have owned my current Corsa for two years and from about three months after purchasing it I started to have problems with my right knee, at first I put it down to someone done at the gym but it soon dawned on me that it is the car so it's time to get something different - I would've got rid of it sooner but it's so cheap to run. I have the seat as far back as it can go but my legs are still very much bent when pushing the pedals down. The headroom is fine but my legs (knees) have to go around the steering wheel and then my shins angled back into the pedals with my feet angling outwards. -
Renault Drive test drives - great idea 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
On returning from the test drive, you simply hand the key back and that's it - no hard or any sell (unless you want to discuss such things, and you make the approach) and you can either then make your way home or hang around and watch a racing driver racing a racing car around a small track, see other people doing obstacle courses etc. It was all very relaxed and well run. Anyway, it must have cost Renault a lot to stage these, but if it helps lead to sales, good on them. I wonder whether other makers might do a similar sort of thing? It certainly was a good way to check cars out in your own time and pace. -
VW Passat 3c2 1.9tdi BXE (PD) - Engine rebuild break-in oil query 24 May 2016 (Forum)
Now to my query that some of you may have experience with. As I'm replacing rings etc. I will have to run-in the engine for the first couple of hundred miles or and complete a number of oil changes. However I don't know what is best practise here as regards oil type and intervals. My research indicates that you should never use synthetic oil during the break-in period of rings (whether this be 50 miles or 1000 miles) as it won't allow the rings to seat and wear in correctly, and cause oil burning, loss of compression etc. etc. -
Any, AFAIK - Colourful Ethnic Starter Switch 3 May 2016 (Forum)
(I found a shot-down Soviet-made helicopter in the Cambodian jungle once, which would have been a great source of switches for my Best-40-Quid-I-Ever-Spent-Lada, but my penknife wasn't up to the job, plus I was a bit parenoid it might have been wired for bangs) No such problemn in the Taiwan suburban jungle. OTOH there are hordes of F-ing mosquitos, and I'm wearing shorts. RUN AWAYYYY!. Step 2: Go back with long trousers and sleeves, jungle boots, a hammer, and an electric tennis raquet. Hit console with hammer while waving raquet around head. Occaisionally the other way around when confused. -
Ford SportKA SE 1.6 (2004) - Temperature light keeps coming on, but not overhea 24 Mar 2016 (Forum)
The garage has implied it might be best to take it to Ford to run a diagnostic on it. They're willing to refund the labour for the 2nd visit, as they couldn't be 100% sure if it was going to fix the issue or not. The garage has been really helpful, but this problem is puzzling them.
