Where's the progress? 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The lady of the house wants a second hand small diesel. Easy I thought, back in the late 1980's we had a Peugeot 205 diesel which did many miles reliably averaging 55mpg. It was fast and quiet, cheap to service and was reliable because it had no electronics. -
Filling up - plea 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Can I make a plea through this forum relating to the (over)filling of fuel (particularly diesel) tanks. I'm sure other backroom bikers will agree that one of the motoring nightmares we face is that of spilled diesel on a roundabout usually caused by filling the tank brim full just to get another litre or half litre in it. -
Mazda CX-5 SE-LUX 2.2 2WD Diesel. - Engine failure 9 Mar 2017 (Forum)
They initially replaced the PCM (main computer) to no avail, and since then they have struggled to identify the cause. Their latest theory is that it may be the fuel pump, and they are trying to suggest it was caused by me filling it with petrol instead of diesel two years ago, despite havingthe tank drained before the engine was started. My questions are: 1. -
Vw Polo / Audi A1 - Polo/A1 cylinder on demand 1.4 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hi. After having a few Diesels and looking at a new 120d I have decided, for me diesels are too much trouble than they are worth and as a private buyer I'm not willing to take the risk again. I do around 25000 miles per year and repairs on my last two diesels have negated any fuel savings made ( and more). -

Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 92 1.9 Leak around injector pump throttle shaft 10 Jun 2009 (Forum)
After changing the cambelt on my 1992 405DL the diesel injector pump leaked badly around the throttle spindle. Tried unsuccessfully to get a second hand pump and was about to scrap the car when I was told to try running the engine on tickover "until the engine was hot". -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - Diesel fuel economy - what's happening? 8 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've averaged about 35 mpg in my diesel Avensis over the last 3,500 miles (6,500 to 10,000). I thought it must be my style of driving - heavyish right... -

VW Golf MK4 110bhp TDi - Possible air in fuel system TDi Golf 26 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Hi all, I let my Golf TDi MK4 TDi 110bhp (AFN code I think) run out of diesel and it hasnt been the same since. I topped it up with fuel and the car struggled to start but it did eventually. However now when the accerlator is pressed down the revs go up very slowly?? I have tried to get air out of the system using an extractor pump but it still dosent feel like it did before so can only assume there is still some air in the system. -
Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 94 1.9 Wont start after cylinder head removal 13 Oct 2009 (Forum)
They primed the fuel system to being fuel from the tank and it still did not start. They then attempted to start the car with an aerosol type easy start product into the air intake, the car started and ran like normal after that. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - '98 1.2 merit 8-valve drain fuel tank 22 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Please could you tell me how to remove diesel from a corsa petrol tank-about three and a half gallons worth with little petrol already in? I've tried using two types of syphon from a car accessory shop with no fluid coming out at all. The tank filler pipe seems very narrow and with a bend on it. -
Fuel Contamination 15 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Expecting the problem to be covered under warranty I booked in with the dealer only to be dissapointed when I was informed that the problem was due to Petrol contaminating the Diesel prompting the fuel system to be drained, cleaned and filters replaced. I am 100% certain that Petrol was not used by mistake so the only cause of this contamination could have been at a filling station with some petrol contamination within a deisel pump. -
Diesel, pertrol or LPG ? Which is best for the ' 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Diesel costs 6 to 7p more per litre, potential fuel pump / turdo replacement costs to worry about, more frequent serviving etc., tend to be ex-fleet / rep cars, high miles. Pertol engines tend to last longer too? -
diesel exhaust and carcinogenesis 24 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Monitoring and control of the particulate is necessary. Prudent policy dictates continued efforts to reduce emissions of soot from diesel engines and decrease occupational exposure as a matter of good health and safety practice. Improvements in engine design, soot filters, and fuel modification will provide the best approach to exposure control. -

peugeot 406 leaking injectors 1999 model 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
But no problems when foot put down. (pulls away fine). But I have recently notice that one of the injectors has diesel fuel in the wells around it. Cleaned the wells up and fuel came straight back. Took to garage told needed new injectors. expensive job. Is it possible it just needs new seals and would this fault cause the above problems Thanks for any help Ian. -
Engine Technology 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have been interested in reading about the efficency of petrol engines, diesel engines, and for every gallon of fuel 3/4 of it is wasted, it got me thinking whether modern engines are more efficent. On the other hand anyone heard about stirling engines, they are external combustion engines, and are reputed to be 80% efficent, wonder if any manufacturer is thinking about introducing them. -
Blue smoke on deceleration 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this may be? I have fitted new injectors and checked that there is no air in the fuel lines, changed the fuel and air filter. These seem to have helped but still very imbarrasing on short journeys to work on cold days! Please can anyone help? -
