Insurance questions 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Having used confused.com and moneysupermarket.com, I've realised the latter is far better in respect of car insurance, however it's thrown this up by using some companies I've never heard of before, and I wondered if anyone else had ever used them? Swift Cover.com Simple Cover from Norwich Union. I was wondering whether these companies are indeed wise options, or actually rip-off merchants? -
2000 polo 1.4 timing belt 4 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My girlfriend has a 2000 1.4 16 valve VW Polo (75 BHP) The car has covered 63,000 miles and I think it is due a timing belt change, however looking in the manual it suggests the belt is merely checked at 60,000 miles. Does anyone know the correct time to change the belt?? -
Insurance cost 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
For anyone looking to reduce their car insurance costs the Post Office is well worth a look. My premium with Churchill amounted to £135 (TPFT) this year. The PO quoted £88 for the same cover without the legal assistance bit. On top of that, for new PO customers, there is a £50 cashback bonus. -
Is the extended warranty worth it? 10 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I rang my Mitsubishi dealer today and they quoted me £636 to extend the manufacturers warranty for 12 months (this includes breakdown cover). Do you think this is worth it? I am thinking of selling the car within the next 9 months or so - would having a manufaturers warranty make a big difference to the money I might get for it (I estimate it is worth around £5500)? -
94 Ibiza Headrest 6 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi All, I bought car seat covers for my brother's 1994 Seat Ibiza, but he says the headrests don't come off; instead of being able to pull the headrest and poles out of the main seat, the poles seem to be stuck to the seat and the headrest just moves up and down them. -
renault scenic knock 23 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My scenics developed a knock, I think is coming from the front end, it only occurs when I'm accelerating round a corner, it happens turning either left or right, driving in a straight line is no problem. I have just come back from France having covered 1800 miles, the noise was there as we get to France but has not got worse during that time, the car is 1998 model & has done just under 60'000 miles, any ideas please. -
Towing an untaxed, uninsured vehicle. 23 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The police tell me this is illegal and will invalidate the insurance on the tow-car as well. Therefore if I want to tow my old SIII Landy to a garage for repair work, prior to an MOT, can I just get a short term third party insurance cover and nothing else? Obviously I cannot get a tax disk prior to a successful MOT, and what if the garage where I'm having the repair work carried out is not an MOT centre? -
Legacy whine 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Within the past few days a rear end whine has developed, noticeable over 40mph. The rear axle is covered in oil, but not dropping any on my drive, so this condition could have existed for a while. Is the noise cause for serious concern, especially if transmission related? the car runs fine, but better safe than sorry. -
Punto problem 27 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Is it the head gasket gone do you think or is a little bit of gunk normal? There are no sign of water on the dipstick. I am hoping this is not serious as the car has not covered that many miles, and has been serviced regulary! Any view appreciated. Many thanks, FarmerPalmer -
Which 4X4 for 15K? 19 Nov 2003 (Forum)
After a string of company 4x4's (Discovery's, Landcruiser's and M-Class), my Dad has decided to opt out of the company car scheme due to escalating taxation costs. He is looking to spend around 15K and will cover around 20K miles per year. All fuel will be paid for by the company. He is currently considering a Landcruiser or a Range Rover and is also looking into Japanese Imports Any advice on the above or any others which we may have missed? -
Foreign Servicing 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have just realised that I will hit the 18,000 miles for its first service whilst I am there. I know buying cars is cheaper abroad, but has anyone any experience on whether I should try and get it serviced whilst over there? Would it be the same service as here? Cheaper or dearer? Still covered by manufacturers warranty? -
Head Gasket 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have a K reg Renault Clio thats covered a pretty good milage at just over 90k but my garage tells me that the cylinder head gasket has blown which certainly accounts for the coolant loss and the oil like mayonnaise! The rest of the car is in pretty good condition but I'm wondering if it is worth getting the head off(beyond my competence by a long way), getting a rebuilt engine or just getting it crushed. -

Peugeot Insurance 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Firstly, the number at the top of their letterhead is wrong. The code should be 0845, NOT 0870. Secondly, although it is 'comprehensive', it does NOT cover you to drive other vehicles on a third party only basis. Furthermore, on the basis of 'caveat emptor', although I was prepared to pay the extra for this (just so that we could shuffle our sons' cars around to get out of the drive), but the insurance company won't allow you to do so. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Car of satisfactory quality 5 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Further, despite a VW history the car was not repaired in the VW system and therefore the paint warranty is invalid. To me the car is not on satisfactory quality as covered by the Sale of Goods Act. Question is can I reject it and claim a refund . -
Honda Jazz - Honda 2 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Had a shock on Saturday to open a letter from the DVLA enclosing a cheque for a refund of car tax on my wife’s Honda that she has owned for the last six years. We hadn’t asked for a refund or Sorned the car. i eventually spoke to the DVLA that morning to be told that somebody has applied for a log book for the car and that my wife was no longer the registered keeper. -

Spammer 10 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Hi; I met someone who bought a car off me, I then gave him money for repairs and he said he was coming once his own car was fixed. Then he sent me details about a car he would collect for me, he’d helped me buy as car before so I naively trusted him. -

Hello all, Hoping for some advice on my dilemma. My old car is in my mechanics garage but he's not back in work for 7 days due to getting hospital treatment. My insurer for this car has it's next months payment due in 3 days and I want to cancel the insurance before I am next charged for the next month in 3 days. -
Mondeo PowerShift - Higher Mileage Car 27 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I'm looking for some advise please about a car I'm considering... A relative is considering selling his Mondeo TDCI (2017) as he needs something greener for his mainly motorway commute to London. The car is an AWD Vignale edition and as far as I know has been maintained to schedule, however despite it's age it has covered 80,000 miles and has a PowerShift auto box.
