  • Inforad Switching Delay 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I can only say this is not universal; my Inforad usually comes on in a minute or so. Assuming the instrument is properly placed and there is nothing odd about the windscreen glass, it may be faulty.
  • The windscreen washer jets on my Citroen are non-adjustable but don't reach the screen, what can I do? 21 Feb 2024 (Ask HJ)

  • Car crime 16 Oct 2013 (Forum)
We think that the would-be thief was disturbed by the lights coming on and did a bunk. SWMBO thinks that the attempt was adventitious, the thief going around trying car doors until they found one that was unlocked. I had the crook bar on the steering wheel so the car couldn't have been taken (I think !!). I'll really have to make an effort to check the car in the evening.
  • Any - Dashcams 5 Jan 2023 (Forum)
So, following on from being driven into yesterday, sitting waiting at a give way this morning a pedestrian runs along the pavement to my left and straight into the busy major road trying to catch a bus. Apart from seemingly setting an altitude record off the top of the windscreen of the car that hit her, she’s a bit battered and bruised but largely unscathed. Modern car design saved a lot of injuries. It’s time to look at getting dash cams in our cars - if you have one, what is it and would you recommend it?
  • 2500km in a Citroen Xantia 17 Feb 2002 (Forum)
t likely to be an issue in the UK. I have no idea how the heating is, I?ve never used it. Strangely it seems to get the back of the car much colder than it does the front. I loved the automatic windscreen wipers. Changing speed, interval and even on and off, depending on the wetness of the windscreen ?
  • Ceramic car heaters 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Has anyone got (or know anyone who has) one of those ceramic in car heaters you see advertised in the sunday papers? They sit on the top of the dash and plug into your cig lighter and give instant heat out. Ive read a review on one site and the writer seems somewhat underwhelmed.
  • Are front engine, rear wheel drive cars more stable in the wet than front engine, front wheel drive? 10 Sep 2019 (Ask HJ)
Are front engine, rear wheel drive cars more stable in the wet than front engine, front wheel drive?
  • re-initialising Xsara remote 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I offered to have a look inside.. having had some good experience in small circuit board repairs. The micro switch towards the front of the casing had come off the board. Due to the minute size of the componenet I invested in a 12W soldering so as not to fry any components due to excesive heat. I re-attached the micro switch and tested that it really was in circuit.... further down the circuit board..
  • 2,000 miles in my Passat 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Plus points Overall build quality - inside and out Strong performance - it's loosened up a lot now and pulls really strongly even when fully laden Nice to drive - good feel and light controls Loads of space I've only tried the heated front seats twice (briefly), and I'm looking forward to those cold mornings The engine warms up much faster than my Audi 1.9TDi Good stereo Niggles That electronic handbrake takes some getting used to and seems a bit temperamental!
  • What's the best adhesive to fit a rubber seal on a gearbox cover? 13 Nov 2019 (Ask HJ)

  • "Fuel poverty" 3 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Double glazing was unheard of, cavity walls were also very rare, central heating was only in schools/offices/hospitals etc., the usual source of heating was an open coal fire. As a result most houses were cold, draughty and in the usually cold, snowy winters most bedroom windows were covered inside with feathery ice crystal in the morning.
  • My nearest service station is 15 minutes away - how do I check my tyres when they're cold? 24 Sep 2017 (Ask HJ)

  • 05 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI (115) - Rough Idle 22 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Fuel economy is still good and there's nothing wrong with the performance, as far as I can tell. I did notice one thing when I had it up in the air recently. The front-most exhaust heat shield is missing. Are there any sensors around that area that could be causing the problem and are perhaps overheating? The only other thing worth mentioning is that the ECU had a software update late 2009.

  • Do you remove your radio front 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Remove front and hide it in the car For: radio not obviously worth nicking. Against: if someone breaks into the car they will probably find the front so it's worth their while nicking the radio.
  • Chip shortage 27 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Hopefully they are expecting some this coming week. The part comes from China. So for the time being I have no heating or hot water, except by electric convector heater and a kettle. I'm a hardy person having lived in a cold farmhouse with no central heating for many years so will be ok but for the old or frail not so good.
  • 2002 Ford Fiesta MK6 - Fiesta overheating 20 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The coolant looked a little low, it was topped up but the next day dropped a little. The heating inside the car works intermittently, with the fan on full heat it blows hot for a while then cold. When the engine has run for a while and warmed up the top pipe on the radiator is hot but the bottom is cold.
