F25 BMW X3 - New car run in 4 Sep 2012 (Forum)
As an urban cyclist, the car can sit outside unused for 3-4 days in good weather, as I can take our almost 4 year old to nursery on the bicycle child seat, 1.5 miles each way mostly through a great park, where she can spot squirrels and dogs and prattle away, and there is no jostling for parking with mums in dark window Q7's on their phones - why are they always so stressed, most have only coffees to worry about later, I see them in big groups whilst grabbing a lightning latte to go at 11am - once pointed out to cafe owner that she had 17 clients in, of which 16 were women .. no wonder they live longer There are no gripes at all - Have only filled the diesel tank 4-5 times to brim and feel quite pleased about that. -

Parking: Politeness, morality and the law 30 May 2012 (Forum)
Any thoughts, comments and "watch out for this rule"s appreciated. Shall I ignore their outrage? Maybe get new tires fitted first, just so they're above reproach (looking like there are only a few hundred miles of legality left in them at the moment)? -
'Care in the community' 19 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The thing where families or friends have to take care of someone so obviously ill is s***. Even before this government, in my time in the nhs, the cutbacks were so severe, and it was to make room for offices. The past shows us what can happen when people who need care are left unsupervised. -

I've had a VW Polo 05-reg for 2yrs. I'm lucky if I get 25mpg urban and 32mpg maximum on a decent run at 60mph. It's always been same. -

1998 pug 404 2.1 td estate - pug 406 2.1 speedo not working here's how i fixed it 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have had the speedo out to fit new bulbs and discoverd i had no speedo cable on the speedo, so speedo drive fault did not make sence to me. so i trawled the interweb and discoverd people writing about a speedo interface box behind the glove box, somthing that not all 406's have. anyway i checked my car and found the box behind the glovebox as described(a black box that will fit in the palm of your hand with a cream bezel or surround around the plug socket) any way i removed this box and drove the car for a week wiyhout it and the speedo did not even flicker like it used to so i knew i had the offending part. -
BMW X5 3.0i year 2000 - BMW X5 cylinder head/engine replace. Advice please 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
My local mechanic (old school VW/Renault man - knows his stuff and very helpful) said likely that head warped/cracked as a minimum (head gasket has gone and engine still turns over apparently but no power anymore) and that not advisable to resurface as tolerances with overhead cams too problematic and that I should either look for a new or tested s/h head and try and fit myself (car not worth a great deal and I have built kit cars many years ago) or much better still, get a replacement engine...Still don't know the cause of the overheating (water pump recently replaced). -
Suzuki Baleno - Advice Please 1 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I have 6 months tax, 12 months mot and I am insured and I own my car, so why do I have to have this done? My nearest centre to have this done s very far away and not only that its going to cost me more money which right now I cannot afford. I was informed that if I did not have the vic check done, I would get stopped by the police. Which I do not want as its embarrasing lol and it would probably frighten my young son. -

Need to repalce Focus RS with something economical - Really don't know what car to get!!! 17 May 2010 (Forum)
I personally don't mind diesels, used to own a Ford Focus 1.8TDCI and while having the RS spent 2 months in a 308 HDI which did 600 miles to a tank on a heavy foot when commuting. So far I've been looking at Mazda 6's but hear their diesel engines are pretty much the worst out there. So what I started looking at next was a Vauxhall Signum with a 1.9 cdti 150bhp. They're nice and roomy (i'm 6ft7), they can carry all my walking gear and others if people go with me. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2005 tdci Head CRACKED!!! w pics 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi guys i am new to the forum and would like some advice. I own a 2005 mondeo zetec s 2.0 tdci hatch which i bought from new. The car has done 56000 miles from new and has been fully maintained by my local ford dealer. A week ago last monday (20th) i started her up after doing a 30 mile motorway run and then i was in a meeting for an hour, so she was still relatively warm and she was spluttering at around 500 rpm, couldnt rev it, smokin very very lump, smelt of diesel, so very quickly turned her off. -
HGV another viewpoint 4 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The other thread on the subject of hgv is of too narrow a viewpoint to be of any help to anyone so I am going to try and explain some of the types of hgv use, drivers, and other info that may (just may) allow non hgv people (and some with limited and out of date experience) some idea of why the hgv s behave as they do. i am not a hgv driver (and it is a very skilled trade to do correctly) but I do hold a licence and help an owner/driver friend to cover at times. There are various types of hgv on the roads but the 1 type that most people hate are the artics on the motorway/dual carriageway that hold up their journeys by long winded overtaking. -
Mid sized MPV with 5+ cyl petrol engine 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The new Galaxy is longer and wider than the missus wants, likewise the Galaxy with a haircut, the superb S-Max, so buying ex-demo versions of either of these with the fabulous Volvo 2.5T engine is unlikely. Can any BRer think of a true Zafira sized MPV with front wheel drive, at least 6 seats, a 5 or 6 cylinder engine, and available second hand or ex-demo? -
What would you like to do? 19 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I do not know their names or where they live, but with a bit of checking I could easily find out. The area I live in has over 750 homes built in the 1970's in a rural setting bounded on all sides by sites of Special Scientific Interest. I went in the house and told my wife the bad news about the cars. To put it mildly I was furious. My wife then phoned the local community officer (LCO) and left a message on the answering machine, and I then reported the damaged to the local police and received a crime number.
