  The Electric Power Steering started to intermittingly fail 6 months ago. It fails when the car is either at idle with the engine running or when started up ,never when being driven. It fails once or twice in a typical day. A local [very small] country garage could not diagnose the problem apart from suggesting a new £2K pump.

  All the had to do was to keep the mobile below the window line, thus ensuring that their attention was not on the road, but on their silly toy which was somewhere down near groin level. And lo, it came to pass, that many of these texting twits started to run into the back of other cars .... Do we now have a situation where there are more mobile-induced accidents CAUSED by making mobile phone use illegal ? Answers on a post card please ...

  Fully right seems to operate lights as normal front and rear, Is that how they should be?  Am I supposed to remember to turn to middle position every time if I want to run on sides not heads all day so as to save fuel and the planet ? Not very green is it. Or have I got it all wrong. Thanks

  hi all need some help.....3 weeks ago i had my car in garage and changed my timing belt....today as i was driving the engine stoped running...i called AA when he got there he looked around the car and he found that the one of  timing belt tensioner bolts had snaped in half. soo....can someone tell me how much damage has been done to the engine.....

  I also notice'd lack of power loss (turbo boost) when going up hill, but when this fault is not thier the car run's fine! pulls the hill no bother and horn - central locking works fine also. Anybody had the same problem before? or somebody shead a bit of light on this would be great.  Thanks, MickeyBo

  Ideally we would like something very reliable, safe and reasonably cheap to run for 4K-ish…   although we’re undecided whether to push the boat out and find an extra 1.5K for something a bit newer such as a 2009 Fiesta/Yaris?

  Thought that I had put the wrong fuel in but no it was actually diesel that went in Stopped the C-max and when fired up again, the message reappeared The engine was running as normal, and was wondering whether there is a sensor that could have been disturbed as we gone over a large speed bump earlier in the journey Travelled back from Edinburgh to Notts with the message still there, but there was no lose of power or lose of fuel effiency Does anyone know what it could be The C-Max has done 80k in mileage

  I am logging this for my dad   He is working on the above car and it keeps cutting out after running for 2 mins, coming up with code p0230 on an rac scanner So far he has : changed fuel pump in tank changed high pressure pump on engine changhed fuel filter housing changed high pressure rail and switch chnaged ignition module ecu has been checked by auto electric place had injectors checked by diesel specialist changed crank sensor changed cam sensor the problem persists can anyone offer any advice   many thanks

  There is a full unit that plugs into the fuel injectors and then there is another unit that plugs onto the spark plugs with a pronged lead that detaches from it. My mechanic has had a look at my car & run diagnostics on it but hasn't actually given me the diagnostic codes. He's just said I need two fuel injectors & the units that plug on the injectors & spark plugs (with nice little drawings of the units needed) Anyone know there official names???

  Hi All - I have started encountering a problem with my 2003 Mondeo 2.0 tdci in that occasionally the motor cuts out when I am driving. If I switch off the key and re-start the car it runs perfectly well - sometimes for days, other times for a few minutes. I noticed that when it cuts out al the dash warning lights come on, the speedo goes to 0 MPH and the rev counter goes to 2500 RPM.

  The only way to avoid stalling is to use a heavy right foot and high revs. The dealer says there is no adjustment to the slow running etc. other than setting the codes correctly which he does. The dealer also says there have been other similar complaints. Is this something we have to live with and just get used to ?

  After 5 mins it starts again and drives for 2 miles (about 4 to 5 mins) then cuts out and stops again. When running, engine behaves as normal. 115000miles on clock. Owned it for last 16000. Replaced plugs, fuel filter, air, oil 2000 miles ago. Fuel tank 1/3 full. Thought it might be fuel lock so removed the filler cap, problem persists just the same.

    My passat recently developed a problem,  when I started the engine it died almost immediatly.   This would occur maybe 2--- to 6 times then would run no bother.   When it occured the one indicator was that the glow plug? pre-heater? symbol would show on the dash.   I left it into a garage and they put it on diagnostics  and that indicated the ignition switch was faulty,   what puzzled me was that the glow plug was the constant indicator.
• SAAB 9-3 Convertible - Loss of power at lower revs 24 May 2012 (Forum)
  The independent garage says they've checked all the obvious things and that the diagnostics and emissions are OK. Should I get a Saab garage to run some diagnostics, or is there some straightforward answer? The symtoms are very similar to the failure of an injector last year, but the garage says that's not the issue. I use manly top grade fuel, and have put a bottle of Wynns injector cleaner into a half full tank with no discernable improvement.

  Anyone out there Run a Toyota Avensis 1.8 VMATIC 2010\2011 Petrol Looking at moving from a C5 to avensis. My C5 written of and i cant find a decent one at the price i want and i  dont do enough mileage for a Diesel Tourer The new Avensis Petrol Tourer looks a good buy with claimed MPG of 42 on combined and is nice to drive.

  checked in tank fuel pump changed rail sensor and high pressure pump sensor once started van operates perfectly as it should until its switched off will run all day?? could this be either high pressure pump or starter motor? i have had leak off injector test and all are ok thanks for looking

  Hi  If some reports are to be believed an EGR valve is the worse thing ever designed from an engine health point of view. I have a Seat Altea 19TDi with 100k on the clock still running very smoothly. Is it worth cleaning the EGR and all the related plumbing, what will it roughly cost and do or can dealers do it? Is it easy to do yourself?
• Citroen xsara 1.8 auto estate - Water coming out near the bottom of the radiator? 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
  My mechanic put some radweld in the rad a few months ago because of a small hole. I have noticed that if the car is running but stationary, water pumps out of the bottom, but does not do this when driving. Has the radiator gone, or could it be the radiator fan is sticking or something else. I don't understand why it doesn't leak when i'm driving the car?

  Well I've been mooting the idea of getting a new car, probably looking to replace by September/October time or so (like to plan in advance) although I'm not quite sure yet, as it is not neccessary but would be more convenient I would say in terms of car sharing/deadlines etc. I have shortlisted the Kia Rio mostly because of the low running costs in terms of initial expense and high mpg for the 1.1 diesel ecodynamics. I wanted to know if any one had any experience with these cars and what the real life mpg would be and what your thoughts are on this car?
• Mondeo Mk3 V6 - Battery charging problem - alternator fault? 26 Mar 2012 (Forum)
  Once the car is started it takes about 13 seconds for the terminal voltage to rise to 14V. Is this normal? I would expect the alternator to put out 14V immediately the engine is running. Is this a symptom of a faulty alternator?
