  • Used Van Buying Guide: Nissan NV200 2009-2019 16 Jun 2025 (News)
Check the quality of the gearshift, the five-speed gearbox is - like the engine - car derived, so if it’s been abused or frequently hauled at maximum capacity it might fail. It should be obvious if it’s on its way out, with any noises, crunching or difficulty selecting gear pointing to a failing transmission.
  • New LCV report points way to recovery from recession 26 Feb 2010 (News)
The shape and size of the used market for LCVs is already undergoing change, with a dearth of late-plate stock and even shortages of typical three-to-five year old fleet & lease vehicles.   This situation is likely to remain until volumes of new sales increase and ‘freshen’ the used stock supplies. The report includes data from the ‘Fleeteye’ survey - conducted by the Buckingham Centre for Automotive Management - which suggest LCV fleets remain hugely cost-sensitive, but are increasingly concerned about how environmental issues will affect them in the longer term.

Looks like new cars will be cheap this autumn, and used cars expensive. From 17th September BCA offers new ways to pay.

Tourneo Connect drivers benefit from a 100,000 mile warranty over three years as it’s sold a passenger car rather than a commercial vehicle. There’s a 12-year anti-perforation warranty too with bodywork on all. Servicing should be every year or 10,000 miles and inexpensive 6000 mile six month interim services and inspections for drivers using their vehicles for short-drop urban driving are worthwhile.

  • Sure-Sell Charade makes £700 over book at auction today 14 Sep 2007 (News)
Sure-Sell private sellers are telling me they are getting their cheques in a little as 3 days, too, without having to waste money on advertising and time fending off endless numbers of canvassers. Crucially, Group 1 insurance made this a decent first car for a 17 year old, though I’m not sure how many young lads would take to the Amethyst paint job. VWs were pricy too, today. But Hondas weren’t. A 96k mile 03 Accord 2.0SE sold for a sensible £4,100.

  • Prices Generally Up at Auction Today 30 Jan 2009 (News)
Fewer new cars now mean fewer used cars in the future and if demand for used cars holds up they can only get dearer, as they have before in the years following a slump. Some prime examples were £12,150 paid for a 16k mile 2007/57 MINI Cooper diesel, £6,000 for a 2,000 mile 08 reg Peugeot 107 Urban and even small Fords seem to have hopped on the elevator with £4,000 being paid for year old Kas and £5,050 for an 11k mile 2007/57 Fiesta 1.2 Style Climate.
