Re: XF charging The car has a battery monitoring system connected to the negative terminal. For charging, connect the negative lead to a ground point (the spare wheel bracket is advised) rather than the battery itself.

  • Road traffic warning 4 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Pulling over leads to instant disqualification and avoided at all costs.. Private motorist held up are asked to curb road rage, use of profane language, finger gesturing and exercise patience until such time as a farm destination is reached.
  • MGB - MGB on premium petrol 12 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Valve seat recession usually isn't a problem on older engines, as the valve seats will retain traces of lead from older use which will offer some protection.  If the owner has any concerns, an occasional dose of lead substitute is a LOT cheaper than having hardened valve seats fitted.

  • Ford Focus 1.6 auto Zetec. - Jump starting a car. 15 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I disconnected the battery when I left it so when i connect it back up I expect the battery will be flat. My friend can drive me to the container and i have jump leads in the car. I have read up on the correct sequence to connect the leads to the terminals. Red from donor car positive terminal to my car positive terminal. Black from donor car negative terminal to a suitable  earthing point on the engine or chassis.

  • Peugot 407 SW - 08 reg - Dealer guarantee 9 Jun 2012 (Forum)
It is apparent that the ECU could be at fault as is being tested now. The car dealer lent me a car until the tax expired at the end of May when I had to hire a car - leading to more expense. I currently have another loan car for a limited time. I am lead to believe that the 3 month guarantee is invalid as it should be 6 months . Could you please clarify the situation
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.8 Battery confusion 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Although I'm a little confused... The current battery is a Motorcraft superstart rated at 680A 70AH, which is lead acid. Now I've been reading around, some people are saying stick with lead acid, others say go with calcium or silver. What's best? Also the battery I have has dimensions of: 315x175x175mm, when going to the halfords website and entering my car reg their replacement batteries are mainly 278x175x175mm.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 02 2.1 Standard Clarion CD Player 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi, Yesterday I replaced the battery on our Pug. It was the original so no complaints there. As a matter of course i put jump leads from another car onto the leads and replaced the battery without problems. The car has a standard Clarion CD player and I'm unsure if it is a coded system like most in car units. I've looked through the literature I have but can't find a book relating to the CD/ radio - nor can I find any reference to a radio code.
  • Car accident advert. 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
(At this point i stress that yes, I know seatbelts do save lives), but my point being is that the advert is mis-leading. Which leads me to ask, why are air-bags designed to soften impact once the "body" has gained momentum, as opposed to being designed to inflate and push/cushion the person firmly in the seat cocoon-like, thereby helping prevent momentum occurring in the first place?

However, Recently it has started missing a bit again, if its starts it lasts for only a few second but if you try to excellerate during this time the car is obviously not responsive. When I replaced the plugs I did have a small problem with one of the HT leads which I repaired by crimping the end again. maybe it needs new Ht leads ? Please can anyone help point me in the right direction? If its important - The car isn't back firing, just missing a few beats..
