1980 Mini 1000 - Running far too rich 26 May 2005 (Forum)
We have now reverted back to the 998 engine (which worked perfectly well before removal) but struggling to get it set up correctly. Whatever we do it seems to be running very rich, and although it will start, it dies again once its warm leaving all the spark plugs soaked in fuel. I have the following kit: Exhaust bits from Mini Spares: Manifold Std bore exhaust long centre branch Large inlet manifold for HS6 drilled + plug for servo S/Steel side exit DTM twinpipe S/Steel downpipe LCB to rear box Plus K & N cone filter & HIF 44 carb Pipercross cone filter & HS4 carb (currently in the car) Someone suggested I just ditch the cone filter and re-fit the big air box filter, but others run their cars using a cone filter so I am sure its not impossible. -

The leak was slight, most of the leakage must have evaporated. When parked facing downhill some coolent tended to appear on the front flange of the sump, having run forward either side of the cooler cover and run down the front of the engine either side of the water pump (I suspected the pump initially). Another sign is white encrustations on the side of the bellhousing flange at the bottom, where the water runs down from the rear of the cooler cover. -

I still have and drive my first car. A Jeep CJ2A. My father bought it new the year I was born (1948) and gave it to me in a non running condition when I was 15 so that I would learn how things worked and have something to drive when I turned 16... I took all to bits and put it back together that year (it needed a new flat head and piston rings and some gear box work(2ed gear synchro) and some pop rivet work on the body and a new clutch and the brakes needed work and the steering kit needed renewal and the fuel pump needed rebuilding and the water pump and the radiator (cause of the cracked head that had put it out of service was the botom mount radiator core falling to bits in the middle of nowhere... hose run from one side of water pump to the other... after run home bonnett lifted in the dusk to see the head glowing red... buckets of water dumped on same to keep engine from freezing up when turned off... after the steam cleared many crackes in the head but engine still running on about 2 pots!) -

Hi looking for advise, I sold the Corsa SXI 1.2 1.6v person came back with it over heating, white smoke, running badly and over pressured coolant. I took the head off, got it skimmed, new head set set and rebuilt. All seemed well it runs very smooth person was happy, 10 days later get a call stating that the temperature light had came back on and the it had lost its coolant again. -
Nissan Qashqai 1.5dci - Fuel pressure regulator and starting/running prob 10 Dec 2021 (Forum)
When the problem exists, I can start the car and immediately push the accelerator to about 1500rpm for about fifteen seconds and the car stays running. The fuel rail has been cleaned several times and they have checked for air leaks and fitted new grommets to the fuel filter. HELP. -
2004 Honda Jazz CVT 1.4 - Glitch under load 7 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I renewed both banks of spark plugs two years ago (Back 4 looked like they had never been changed !). Runs well. Indicated average 45+MPG on short run normal use. Just recently it started suffering with a "glitch" on light/medium load between 1500-2000 rpms. It is exactly like momentarily switching the ignotion off and then back on. -

Would you expect a big difference between coach brands in terms of ability to run to high mileages, for instance between the Yutong TC12 vs. Volvo 9900? When it did break down, what would you expect to go wrong? Engine? How realistic would it be to do a full refurb and then run it for another few years? -

Tonight she has said there's major engine vibration, almost like a wobble that you can feel through the car... also lights dim slightly as revs go up and down, can stall from time to time when moving and makes a bad noise when revs are fluctuating. Once warm and run for a bit, all seem to disappear. All in all dosent sound the best, has two logged faults on an OBD reader P0263 and P0272 but has had these a little while when car ran ok. Engine management light stays on all time plus coil light takes longer than expected when cold to go out. -

2011 BMW 1 series I want to change from run flats to regular. I worry about the low air sensor and having the right tires for the car. I would get one of those flat repair kits that come with a sme geneator and some gunk to seal a flat tire so I could drive a short distance. -
mercedes 190e 2.0 - misfiring engine 26 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I have a 190e 2.0 litre year 1993 . I was driving in trafic at aby 30mph and sudenly in started to run on 3 insted of 4 slight loss of power etc. Ive had the car for 5 years and never thrashed the engine .Even now she is starts strait away, but she just wont run smoothly like she used too.My local garage has checked the distibter cap ht leads spark plugs etc and they seem ok.they have surgested that it might be something internal. -
Citroen C3 1.4 HDi HX engine Siemens Injectors - Sticking injector? 30 Oct 2011 (Forum)
We recently had a blowing injector replaced (it blew on the motorway, puff of white smoke engine management light on, chuffing noise) Now we have a problem which I suspect is another injector, where from cold, the car runs on 3 cylinders until hitting (mostimes) 3 on the temperature bar. If I turn the engine off and restart, it runs on 4, the management light stays on but comes out of limp mode, eventually going off of it's own accord. -
Peugeot 307 SW S HDi 110 - Battery going flat due to cooling fan running on? 5 Jul 2011 (Forum)
My car battery was flat a couple of mornings ago. On further investigation it seems that this was caused by the cooling fan running on and then not switching off over night. A diagnostic test at Kwik Fit has identified an intermittent fault on a 'coil' adjacent to the radiator cooling fan. He has got a price for the part from Peugeot and has told me it will cost £157 to repair. -

Left car running on drive and revved slightly, car then revved out of control on its own, white smoke everywhere, took keys out of ignition and fortunately friend knew to stall car to stop this continuing, arranged for it to go into bmw, car picked up on tow truck, car still running. -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 53 reg - rattle at start / stop 16 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi, My Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 130 53 reg seems to run fine, but when I start the engine there is a rattle that lasts a second or two. Engine runs smoothly , but I get a slight rattle when I turn the engine off. I know little about diesel engines, actuall less than little, but did read online that diesel engines can rattle when overfilled with oil. -

Hi, I fitted a new cambelt to my car today as it has done 99000 miles and at the same time replaced the shims on the cam followers to correct the valve clearances in an effort to cure a tappety sound After re-assemling the car and running it it was struggling to idle over 800rpm and the engine almost stalled if you revved it. Unfortunately the tappety sound remained but was quieter. I dis-assembled the engine again and checked the timing and the exhaust cam was 1 tooth out. -

If I turn the engine on again it may or may not come back after a minute or so. Because the engine must be running to get the noise it is difficult to hear anything in the engine bay but I can just hear it coming from somewhere near the wiper motor which is not switched on. I can't find anything that doesn't work properly and it only happens after a run of 50 miles or more. -

I know - if I could go back 24 hrs.... etc I have had the car recovered to my house (did not even get to say hi to Mum) so I am trying to decide is it worth getting fixed as I was hoping to run it a bit longer then pass to No1 son for hs first car to run into the ground.... How can I tell if there has been any damage to pistons valves etc if possible. If it looks OK, How hard is it to do the job your self, never done one but I am mechanically able and in the long run how much worse can it get ? -

Sent it back to the main dealer who said "working to specification" Had the usual arguments and made the workshop Supervisor check it out after a run of 10 miles and he confirmed by placing the trip computer in test mode that the engine temp was only 50c and it would need a new thermostat. New thermostat fitted and heater now running a little warmer and engine temp now up to about 65c even though the outside temp has now increased to 6/7c Has anyone experience this problem over the cold spell and does anyone know what the normal running temp shoul be.
