  • Saab 9-5 Saloon Diesel Auto 53 plate - Battery drain 14 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I have used jump leads to some effect but after a short run and standing for 24 hours the car does not start.  The battery has been checked and it is apparently OK but it is draining power somewhere and I don't know where the problem lies.  Now even after a longer run it is very difficult to start even using jump leads.

  • Peugeot 306 XSI L Reg 26 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I left the lights on in my Peugeot 306 and drained the battery. I jump started it and it drove perfectly normally. However, once I parked it I could not restart it. There is power but when the key is turned there is not a sound as if the battery were dead.
  • Vauxhall Combo Van 1994 1.7D - Battery light stays on and dodgy fuel guage 15 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Hi all and a warm welcome back to HJ!  I have just bought a stopgap van and have a couple of issues with it. Firstly, the battery light just stays on, nice and bright, not just flickering. The alternator is obviously charging ok as the van turns over fine but is this likely to be an alternator fault or a fault within the loom of the van?
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1999 - Remote keys 2 May 2009 (Forum)
My questions are: 1 - Is this the way the car would have been supplied new? 2 - What happens if I lose the remote key or flatten the battery? Can I obtain a new one easily, or is major dealer expense? 3 - Can I change the battery without messing it up? 4 - Is it easier and cheaper to get a spare remote key rather than await the inevitable loss or flat battery?

  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 99 2.0 Door locks 29 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Three weeks ago a replacement alternator and new battery were fitted and yesterday the remote refused to work although it had a new battery 2 years (8000 miles) ago. The key will only work in the driver's door and sometimes the offside rear door does not unlock.
  • Cannot disarm alarm on Landcruiser 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Its a 1996 model with Toyota's TTDS 5000 system II according to the handbook. The alarm was tripped and subsequently flattened a new battery. Prior to that the remotes were working ok. Now neither remote works even with new batteries. I have tried a number of solutions with no effect. I can drive it by turning on ignition and disconnecting and reconnecting battery, but alarm arms when key is removed.
  • Bubblin' battery breather (Sprinter) 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Evenin' After my regular check-over of fluid levels a few days ago I found my battery needed topping up. It's been performing fine, but took about half a litre. After a brief drive this morning I noticed the breather was overflowing by a small amount. Infact I smelt it before I saw it.
  • Dying battery cause non-start? Rover 1.6 11 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Would turn over a bit slower than usual, would start to catch but then not fire. A jump start from another car to bring the battery up a bit started it fine, but why would a low batter cause it not to start in the first place? Surely if there's enough current to turn over an engine OK (worked on 5 attempts) there's enough to cause ignition?
  • A battery of mice 10 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I opened the bonnet of my Omega this morning in order to top up the windscreen washer. I could hardly believe my eyes. The battery has a padded cover - rather like an immersion heater - and something had pulled away the cover exposing a white filling which was covered in peanuts and bits of stale bread. I can only assume it was field mice that had done this but it is quite worrying.
  • Ford Courier 1.8D dead as a doornail 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
But changing the battery did not alter this. All I can hear is the solenoid clicking. Before I remove the starter motor, is there anything else it could be?

Could this problem be connected to the battery or is it just a coincidence. Any help on this would be appreciated. Graham.
  • Another alternator problem 28 Jun 2002 (Forum)
This morning the battery was full of life although the battery light kept coming on and going off on the 50 mile trip to work. The car is a 1992 Citroen BX GTi with 82K miles on it; any clues, anyone? Darcy. Sudden prayers make God jump.
  • Peugeot remote keys 16 May 2001 (Forum)
I have an S-reg Peugeuot 306 and have had regular problems with the remote keys. Sometimes the batteries last a few months, sometimes a few days. The problem appears to be that after the buttons on the key fob are pressed and then released, the contact with the battery is not properly broken and the battery then drains.

Hope someone can help. The battery went dead in my Rover 400 key fob. It went so dead that when I put a new battery in it didn't work. How do I reprogram it? Or do I need to buy a replacement. I've heard this can be expensive?
