Vauxhall Monterey Tyre Wear 21 Jan 2005 (Forum)
There is a small amount of play in the steering box, but this should not affect tyre wear, plus the MOT should have brought up any wear in anything else. Tyres are BFG semi-knobblies. It looks like a classic tracking problem, but my local tyre independent (Derek Campbell in Yarm) has checked it and says that it's spot on. -

Renault Megane sport 2009 old shape - incorrect price given on trade in 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
After speaking to the salesman on the phone, He made me a offer of £2150 for my car which i told him that i would not accept that amount. Since my car was due for its MOT, he told me to get it tested and he would review the price, plus he wanted photos of the Car. On Wednesday the car passed its MOT, so i sent the salesman a copy of the MOT plus Photos of my car, He emailed back with a offer of £3950 for my car, I thought this cant be right, So i emailed him asking him to recheck the price plus full details of my car and he said that the figures was correct, So i phoned him up, asked him to check again, He said i can assure you the price is right, So i paid the deposit and bought the car. -
Narrow road, pavements and council 23 Feb 2024 (Forum)
However lately there has been more traffic along it in both directions as a new housing estate is being built plus other road works in the area. The catch is that we now get people driving along the pavement at speed as they pass a vehicle coming in the other direction. With some residents being at work you'll get them drive up the dropped kerb allowing access to one driveway, along the pavement and then down the other dropped kerb of another property. -
Alfa 156 - Would you fix 11 Feb 2022 (Forum)
The car had it not got broken would be worth about £1,000 I guess with a good engine, needs a new mirror case (passing motorist caught it) and has minor damage on the bumper plus some peel on the boot lid. I guess the sensable thing is to scrap it, yet I am so tempted to spend £2000 and do the engine repair. -
Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Long term caretaking 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Body work should be fine as galvanised, anything else to keep eye on longterm apart from usual wear and tear items, (tyres, brakes etc) Got a bit of a tear in me eye for the old motor going to scrappage, 14 yr old petrol Galaxy 120k original clutch, engine never been cracked open, but needs to much to pass next MOT, needs about a grand spent on it, plus Skoda gave me 3.5k on scrappage, too good to refuse really. -
Hyundai i10 (2008 - ) - Hyundai i10 or Suzuki Splash? 17 May 2009 (Forum)
I've read some negative comments about luggage room in the i10 but wondered if it would fit the bill for the odd week away for daughter and self plus a couple of cases with the back seats down? Of course if you've got any other suggestions I'd be very grateful too. Many thanks! -
replacing my VR6 for max economy! 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone A new job with a 40 mile a day commute means my 1995 golf vr6 has to go. Over the last 2 years i've only had about 28mpg from it, plus the group 17 insurance and road tax means I'm going to be chucking away about half my pay rise!! I only paid £1700 for it, but its done 110K miles, and although mechanically sound and with a recent new clutch (also passed MOT last week with 0 fails, full service booked for tomorrow - fingers crossed) the bodywork is a bit worn, and judging by recent economic trends(!) -
£1,500 buying decision 23 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Another consideration is that my wife is likely to be driving when she passes her test, and she's only 5' 3" - so she needs to be able to reach the pedals. Non-coupe options I've been looking at include the late old-shape Mondeo V6, the Mitsubishi Galant V6, Mazda Xedos and the top-end late old-shape Nissan Primeras. -
Selling a car with the least amount of hassle . 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
The issue is that the car is 90 minutes away, so going back is inconvenient plus not too sure I can photo all of the little marks and dents needed by motorway due to the car needing a good clean as it has been sitting so long.. He has called out the RAC tommorow to charge the battery but said the last time it was running there was a clicking noise from the coming from the wheels which I am guessing the breaks from sitting unused ( the discs have rust on them) ... -
Mercedes Benz SLK AMG - Young driver reversed into my car. 2 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Despite him admitting that he was driving at the time. I also have a witness to his reversing into me. This young man had only passed his test 3 days prior (through the Army) yet thought this driving was acceptable. I'm not pee'd off at anything other than this kid thinks that what he did was okay. Plus, now I have to go to court and I feel like the criminal! -
MOT failed after 150 miles---URGENT HELP 13 Jan 2014 (Forum)
At home I realized there have been some changes to the car, so I went to have the car tested for another MOT. Unfortunately, it did not pass. The dealer changed the tyres which influenced the MOT results. What is more, there is a different problem with the car, not the advisory item given by the garage where the car was tested 5 days before I paid the deposit. -
Audi A3 + S3 - Dealership servicing - Sump threads stripped. 2 Apr 2010 (Forum)
i put my car in for a service today at a dealership, they then called me to let me know that the sump plug fits loosely and that the threads are stripped and it'll be £250 plus to replace the sump! i suggested tapping new threads but say they are unable to do that and offer the sump replacement only, so my car is dead at the dealership as a result of their poor technicians. -
Hit & run - what is the likely outcome? 27 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have comp and protected, but if my company has to stump up, I will lose my excess and I will get a strike against my NCD protection, plus it will affect the premium on my classic car policy too as I have had a claim against me...... I just don't need that right now.... Any advice? Kryten -
Honda Civic - Shark Fin Antennas - Something to Avoid? 5 Feb 2023 (Forum)
[endif]-->Driving along yesterday in gusty conditions, I heard a loud clunk on the roof of my car (Honda Civic 9th gen) as I passed a row of oak trees. Got home to discover the cover of the shark fin antenna was missing leaving the circuitry exposed. I returned to the scene of the crime and, despite a thorough inspection of the ditches and hedges on both sides, could not find the missing article. -
2004 Porsche 996 C2 - Woeful Dealer not fixing problems - Help Needed!! 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hello all I purchased a 996C2 from Stratstone in Aylesbury on the 26th November, after a 300 mile shakedown run on the 29th November I reported 3 problems back to the Dealer: Air Con Not Working Steering Wheel Wobble at 65 plus Appalling Headlights (Porsche Li Tronics) After finally getting the car back to the dealer the Air Con has been fixed but I am told that no problem could be found with the 'wobble' or the lights, in fact i have been told 3 times that the car passed its MOT which I agree with but, they do not test for brightness. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 95 1.4 Can too much oil in engine cause HG failure 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, just found this site and hoping someone here can help us out.. I took my g/f's Corsa to a garage to get it MOT'd last weds, passed no probs so I asked them to change the engine oil while it was there. On saturday the car stalled and there was oily water spilling out from a hole in the rad and smoke coming out from under the bonnet. -
A tear in my eye - a sale is made. 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
He pops round, takes a quick look at the car, and starts talking money - before a test drive, or check of the paperwork etc, plus it was getting dark, so you couldn't see the bodywork properly. A deal is struck, he pays (cash - which I check VERY carefully), and away goes the car. It was the most surreal car transaction I have ever had! -
Honda Legend 2.7 12 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know if this is a common fault on Legends and is the rust under the cover likely to extend as far back as the windscreen base? I will probably pass on this car but will probably continue to look for a Legend coupe so any hints appreciated. David -
Fabia Estate (2010) Mk 2, 1.2 TSI DSG - Random knocking noise when accelerating 26 Apr 2016 (Forum)
