  • Previa Diesel Turbo or not! 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
This fault is intermittent, I am not using any oil and not pouring black smoke out of the exhaust, even when the fault is occurring. When the fault is not happening the engine pulls fine and revs cleanly throughout the range. This fault does not appear until the engine is up to temperature and during warm up it revs cleanly.

  • Volkswagen - White smoke from oil filler cap and dipstick 20 May 2018 (Forum)
Can someone here please give me detail about what seems to cause smoke from the oil filler cap and/or oil dipstick in VAG TDI engines (1998-present, newer TDI's, the less noisey ones than you get in my VW polo and Mrk3 Golfs). I would like to kno what any type of smoke from oil filler cap and/or dipstick means (white, blue, black etc).

  • Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi smoke problem 19 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have a 2004 Ford Fusion 2 with the 1.4 TDCi (Peugeot/Citroen PSA) engine. It's under warranty until October 2008. I've got a problem with black smoke. It makes a lot of smoke under acceleration. It doesn't have any effect on economy or performance. I always get about 450 miles on a tank of diesel (about £35 worth). The dealership have changed the EGR valve twice now.
  • Peugeot 306 - Peugeot 306 1.9td smoking under load. 8 Apr 2012 (Forum)
It's hard to tell what colour it is through the rear window but if ever there is a car behind me with their lights on I can normally drench them in smoke! I think it's black smoke... Service wise other than coming up for an oil change everything is new, belts, filters, everything! It started though after a recent cambelt change. The old belt was very slack and the new one (Inc rollers) made a very noticeable difference in performance, a slight one in mpg and the engine even sounds more like a diesel!
  • 306 d turbo lacks power. 30 May 2005 (Forum)
Also when i got the car the boy wonder who ownded it before me had a straight through stainless steel "performance" exhaust on it, I have changed this back to a normal exhaust(non-cat even though it had one originally, peugeot told me that!))and regained some power, but still not as much as the other 306. The maintenace was poor, the oil was practically non-exsistant and what was there resembled tar! and the air filter was just as black so I have changed the oil and air filters, oil and put cleaners through the air and fuel systems, but this is my first diesel and I'm struggling.
  • citroen relay van - expensive garage repairs now need new engine 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Around 10 months ago my van started blowing out black smoke and running flat out whilst on a journey. I managed to bring the van to a halt as was towed to our local citroen garage where i was informed the engine had run on its own oil due to oil overfill and that had blown the pistons.
  • Peugeot XTDT - Lack of Power/ Smokey too 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I still have the problem..! Also if i remove the pipe that goes into the fuel pump from the intercooler it has alot of OIL in it..! I've removed the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler and i get a good flow of air and a nice turbo whistle, i've driven the car like it but its very flat...NO BOOST. Also that pipe and others have traces of oil in them too.

  • Oil labelling explained 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Automobiles) all good oils should contain both of these and an understanding of what they mean is important. API This is the more basic as it is split (for passenger cars) into two catagories. S = Petrol and C = Diesel, most oils carry both petrol (S) and diesel (C) specifications.
  • Ford Transit 2003 FWD 2.0 TDCI - Dumping oil or fluid onto driveway and trailing 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Twice in the last 6 weeks after a cold start, somethings leaking a 12" diameter patch onto the driveway and when I drive off after 30 secs, theres a trail of whats leaking about 100' up the road (travelling at 5-10mph) The wet patch is showing on the driveway below the engine a bit left of the oil filter area. ie  almost below timing cover and crank pulley. I thought spilliage was oil to start with but it doesnt seem black enough. It doesnt smell of anything so I'm guesing that rules out diesel.
  • Fuel price increase... 500% 28 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Harare - The price of fuel in Zimbabwe went up by more than 500% on Wednesday as the government announced a deregulation of the petroleum oil industry. Diesel that used to cost 200 dollars a litre will now be sold at 1 060 dollars while the petrol price has gone up from 450 to 1170 dollars. Lately fuel has been available on the black market at prices that were eight times more than the official pump price.
  • Smokey Ford Escort 1.8TD 9 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Trying to sort out the reasons for my Escort 1.8TD smoking pretty bad. The car is a 95 1.8TD with 74K miles which appears genuine. The smoke is dark/black so its a fuel problem. I change the oil/filter every 4K miles and the oil level hardly moves and so far have never had to top it up between changes so its not an oil problem. The darker nights now allows me to see "exactly" when it smokes, as I use the person's headlights behind me to experiment!

  • Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - Advice on buying an older diesel. 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Engine again looked in good condition for its age. It basically didn't look like it had been abused or driven a lot. The oil was black though. Also when the car first started there was an initial burst of smoke that lasted for one second then nothing. I'm hoping it'll do at least 50mpg Read the review on this site, seemed quite positive.
  • Nail In Tyre & Other Issues 12 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Just returned from holiday to Andorra & week trolling round France. 2004 x type diesel, 2400 miles, 55 mpg, used no oil, now done 163,000 miles. Temp gauge mostly at 1/4, got up to 1/2 climbing the Pyrenees in 34 deg outside temp. Pretty pleased with a car that is worth effectively £1k-zero.
