Citroen Xsara Picasso 2003 Auto - Changing down, auto gearbox problem 27 May 2011 (Forum)
When changing down the gear box has a latency; when the revs drop there is a degree of hesitation then it bangs into the next gear in the most abrupt manner. My dealer said it was because the gear box oil had not been changed and I took it back to him twice in six months for him to try that solution, nothing happened, it's still awful. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 tdci fuel filter change 14 Oct 2009 (Forum)
hi all, ive never change a fuel filter on a diesel, do i need to fill the thing with diesel first? if so is it via the 'in' nozzle on the filter? Also where is the oil filter and washer pump on ths car, i want to change all filters but the washer has packed up, though the wipers still work so im guessing its not a broken fuse! -
Volvo S90 - Oil dilution/DPF 23 Jul 2023 (Forum)
My friend purchased a used Volvo on an approved used scheme "Volvo Select". Within 30 days an oil level warning light came on stating that the oil level is to high and requires adjustments. This has happened on 4 occasions and each time Volvo has recommended an oil change. No solution to the problem has been found. -
Vauxhall Vectra C - Vectra C 1.8 (2003) - Using wrong oil, fault codes 20 Oct 2014 (Forum)
In addition to these codes, idling is surging. I have now purchased enough 5w30 fully syntehtic for a complete oil change but am unsure as to whether there is anything else I should do? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 93 1.4 oil in air filter 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
not really sure if that correct its got a twin choke webber on thanks in advance jas just seen this would this apply If the crank was hitting the oil you'd hear it - and the oil froth would be sucked up the breather. You'd be getting periods of loud pinking and a cloud of smoke bigger than the Torrey Canyon. [Now that'll date you...] -
Changing a head gasket 14 Jan 2003 (Forum)
However, reading the Haynes manual there's no mention of changing them - should I or not? Also, is it worth doing anything else, like changing the valve stem oil seals, whilst the head is off? And finally, is it possible to tell if the head needs skimming without any special measuring tools? -
Second hand car warranty - oil leak 7 Sep 2025 (Forum)
I had to buy remotely, so asked him to confirm that car had no issues - which he did. 3 weeks in, I gave car for a service and to change cambelt. Mechanic called to say that there is a 'big' leak of oil. Turns out was from the rocker cover. He said would fix for £100 as already all opened up. Car was sold with 6 month engine and gearbox warranty, so I contacted seller. -
Volkswagen Sharan - VW Sharan DSG oil/flywheel 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I've read lots of what appear to be conflicting reports over this engine. Does it have a wet clutch? None of the auto boxes I've looked at have had the dsg oil changed even with dealer history but yet, I've seen on a couple of sites reports that suggest it is wet. Assuming it's the same engine as in other cars? Also given its an auto will it have a DMF still or does it use a torque converter. -
Ford Focus 2004 1.8 Diesel - replacing crankshaft pulley and seal after oilleak 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi All, My Focus got an oil leak and my father-in-law located the problem as the crankshaft pulley. He changed the seal twice to no avail, then replaced the pulley and then another seal in the new pulley. Each time he has replaced the seal or pulley the oil leak has returned... -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - Electronic oil-level gauge 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Mine has behaved itself pretty well for 9 years, but it is now showing signs of reading low. That doesn't matter much to me, as I always check the dipstick and I am 99.99% sure that the oil will be on the top mark, as the engine uses none between changes. The problem is that on the rare occasion that the car goes in for treatment, the technician 'tops it up' with the result that the level gets too high, and I start to worry about gasket failure. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8, Oil spots under my focus? 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hi guys I have a 1.8 1999 Ford Focus I have noticed a few problems. I had my power steering cooling rack changed on my last service by a local garage back in April this year. I have started to notice the power steering fluid going down and a few oil spots appearing under my car. I think it may be the power steering fluid leaking? -
Fiat Panda Selecta 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I need to change the gearbox oil in my Panda Selecta, the CVT automatic box, and have not had much success in tracking down the oil. Apparently you can use Dexron for topping up but not for refilling. The Fiat agents weren't very helpful but told me I should use Tuvala CVT oil but they couldn't get it and I can't find it anywhere. -
LandRover Knackered? 10 Nov 2004 (Forum)
A girl at work has a Landrover Freelander and this morning she parked up and oil was coming out by the front wheel. She thought it was brake fluid but when I opened the bonnet the oil has come from the expansion tank and is everywhere. I took the oil filler cap off and there is a mayonaise type deposit all over the cap with water. -
Mondeo - Which filter? 14 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I have been trying to change the oil filter on an L reg Mondeo. Both the filters are marked "EFL600". The old filter also has the number "1 119 421" on it and has five holes around the top. The new filter has the number "1 066 071" on it and has six holes around the top. -
peugeot 108 - Sump bolt now a service item? 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I merely give it a wipe and replace it with a new fibre washer. it has never leaked. So what am I missing? Same article also recommends an annual cabin filter change and they are happy to leave the oil for 10,000 miles (or 1 year) which I also disagree with . -
Toyota Avensis - DIY service looking for advice 19 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I am thinking of servicing my 2008 1.8 vvti Avensis myself this year, has 110k on the clock. Apart from oil change, air filter, spark plugs what other checks and lubrication are required? I will adjust the handbrake, the coolant isn't that old so will leave that, might change the gearbox oil and cabin filter. -

Motorbike Head Gasket CBR1000F 18 May 2006 (Forum)
Any bikers on this forum changed a head gasket on a water cooled bike before. My normally reliable CBR1000F appears to have possibly blown its gasket. when it gets warm i'm getting loss of coolant thru a jubilee clip ( they've been checked along with operation of the thermostat)Drained coolant, there's no sign of oil in it, checked oil no signs of emulsion, i'm thinking gasket failure from water jacket to cylinder.
