Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 20-6-2015 20 Jun 2015 (News)
Or a Toyota Verso 1.8i Valvermantic Multidrive S, if that isn't over budget. Paperless My wife and I are taking a fly-drive holiday in New Zealand in October/November 2015. I have become aware that the DVLA is changing the current system for driving licences abroad. As my wife and I have the old style pink paper licences (pre-1998) which are still valid, but do not include a photo card, will these be acceptable in New Zealand? -

Skoda Fabia vRS (2003-2007) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
On paper this shouldn’t have worked. The drab first generation Fabia is hardly a style classic and neither is it sparkling to drive, so combining it with a diesel engine in order to make it a hot hatch didn’t seem like a winner. But what a winner it was. More than any other Skoda, the Fabia vRS changed the perception of the brand and showed that it could produce a fun to drive, high quality and genuinely quick small car. -

A Grand Monday: Alfa Romeo GTV Project 22 Apr 2014 (News)
I also like the fact it's been in the family for 15 years. As the seller states, 'it will start and drive, and the interior in good condition - but does require lifting a little. The bodywork still in very good condition since restoration. Few cosmetics needed but very little.' Let's hope that's really the case. -

Spotted in the classifieds: Summer cars 28 May 2012 (News)
Mazda MX-5 The current incarnation of the MX-5 has been around for quite some time now, but that doesn’t mean it’s anything other than great fun to drive. It’s not particularly powerful, but with its balanced weight distribution it’s the ideal car for spirited summer evening drives. Prices aren’t too steep, either. Most 2008 models are listed at between £8,500 and £9,000, and you should be paying just shy of £9000 at an independent dealer - or less from a private seller. MINI Convertible The MINI has a well deserved reputation for being fun to drive, and even with the convertible it remains the case – chopping the roof off hasn’t dulled the handling or the pointy steering. -
