  • Renault Auto Gearbox 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Its down to the oil cooler that sits atop the auto box - it seems to have corroded and is dumping coolant in the transmission (and vice-versa)... My question is, in this country, and as I never ever tow anything or go flat-out in the thing - does it really need this cooler. I know many cars dont even have one as standard so Im hoping that bypassing it will be a cheap fix to give the old thing some more life.
  • Temperature gauges 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
But like clocks they are only of any use if they are accurate..which is my point. I want to know the temperature in the cylinder head of my engine in real time.Thats coolant exit temperature,by the way. I would also like it expressed in some internationally standardised unit of measurement.......degrees centigrade will perfectly well suffice. I have several thermometers about this place for various purposes even the inexpensive ones manage to be accurate to less than one degree,so this is hardly a matter for another million dollar development programme.
  • HELP! AX OVERHEATING 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Warning light comes on, electric fan does not kick in and although the top hose is very hot, the bottom hose remains cold. Hot coolant is then forced out of the radiator filler cap. Could it be someting as simple as a blocked radiator core or even the stat? The heater blows hot by the way, so not the heater matrix.
  • Renault Clio 2 1.2 16V - Overheating 14 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Younger daughter today on a road trip rings me to say a couple of warning lights are on - further questioning reveals the temp gauge is well above mid-point. It would then cycle up and down a few times then stabilise. I’ve had to add coolant - expansion tank being empty or close on empty, I can’t see an obvious leak in the few minutes I’ve had, but I do know that the engine fan is cutting in. I’ve ordered a new thermostat, and will hunt for a leak around the housing, but anyone any other likely suggestions.
  • Vauxhall Astravan - Crank no start 18 Apr 2020 (Forum)
I've confirmed I have spark, fuel, air and that the timing is ok. Compression test showed the following: 175 175 120 160 - the van does have a small coolant leak so maybe has a cracked cylinder head. The head gasket has recently been replaced but didn't solve the leak and was running ok until a few weeks ago. I have replaced ECU, EGR valve, and crank & cam sensors.
  • Volvo v70 2.4 automatic 2000 - Radiator replacement 15 May 2018 (Forum)
Hello,    My recently aquired volvo v70 2.4 automatic, has developed a coolant leak. It seems to be coming from between the cooling fan housing and the radiator. It drips down onto the garage floor at night and when looking underneath seems to be driping from the centre of the radiator.

  • Ford Fiesta - Ecoboost engines 1 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I know there was an early issue with these engines where a pipe in the cooling system was prone to give up the ghost, dumping the coolant and wrecking the engine, but something is telling me that some other problem was mentioned. If anyone knows the detail of this information I'd be grateful for a resume', because a used Ford Ecoboost is one of the alternatives I'm thinking of looking at when I move on from the B Max.
  • bmw e46 330i m sport convertible - E46 BMW 330i dodgy electric fan, 8 Aug 2015 (Forum)
In short, the electric fan seems to be on too often, or doesn't come on at all,  unless i use AC, which is kind of pointless when the roof is down. There is enough coolant , and i changed it anyway , 6 months ago.   Any ideas? its a 2002 model, 330i m sport, automatic

Im thinking its possibly a relay which leads me to the question, if this model has a relay for the radiator fan where is it as ive looked online and through the hand book with no success??
  • Toyota Celica - toyota celica 190 self revving /high idle 2 Nov 2014 (Forum)
vvtli 190 celica 2002.I have a problem when the engine gets warm, when I bring the car down to tick over,it revs at 1500 and blips the throttle to 2000,on off, like someone revving it for you, it then will suddenly change, drop down to 900 and runs sweet, few minutes later it's at 1500 again revving to 2000, could this be a  problem with the coolant temperature sensor, iacv? Maf? Can't find. Any vacuum leaks as such, please give me your knowledge. Thanks,j :-) (Duplicate thread)

Hi all, I have a Laguna 1.9 DTI alize, the temperature light on the dash is coming on intermittently and the footwell in the passenger side is wet, i have to keep putting the heater on to clear the windows as they keep steaming up. however the engine temperature is normal (halfway) and i am not losing any any coolant from the expansion tank, it always seems to be full to the max line. It is an air con model but it has never worked since i had the car (2yrs) any advice much appreciated
  • Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 02 1.4 Engine over heating 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I checked the radiator and filled it up earlier in the week with anti-freeze and she checked the expansion tank this morning, so it isn't lack of coolant. I'd appreciate it if anyone can suggest the most likely causes and a check list on how to narrow it down.

  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 1.3 Diesel Astra 21 Apr 2009 (Forum)
H All! Looks like it's time for the Omega to depart this world - coolant leaking, so too much £$£$ to consider fixing. Anyway, can't find much feedback, regarding the 1.3 diesel Astras, which are now sneaking into auction. They're not exactly bargains, but supposedly verrrrry low running costs, make them appealing.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 02 1.4 Engine fluid mixup 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
By mistake, my OH has put engine transmission/power steering fluid in the coolant expansion tank "because they both looked pink". I have only just found out and the car has been driven around for about a week with no obvious ill effects. Does anyone know if any permanent damage will have been done, and do i need to take it to the garage?
  • Renault Scenic (1996 - 1998) - 1998 1.9DTi - Heater poor performance 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The heater on my 1998 Renault Scenic 1.9 DTi diesel (with aircon) has never been very good in my 6 months of ownership, but this cold weather really shows up the problem. The heater matrix is not leaking, the coolant level is constant but even on a long run in this freezing weather the heat output is only luke warm, moving the heater control from hot to cold does make the output colder but on max heat it is pathetic.
