  • Cracked Windscreen and Insurance 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My posh tinted rain sensitive windscreen has an 8 inch crack in it. The insurance policy says my excess is £50 but only if I use Autoglass or Auto Windscreen. If I don't use them, insurers only pay £150 towards the cost. My question is, will Autoglass replace like-for-like, or will they just supply a windscreen minus the bells and whistles?
  • Cant remove Screenwash stains :-( 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I used Halfords Advanced Car Wash to wash the car and windscreen but this stuff wont shift. I then tried Halford bug and tar remover on the windscreen (it says it should remove traffic file too) and again this has made no difference.
  • Heated Steering Wheel 19 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I should be grateful for any advice on which relatively inexpensive cars have a heated steering wheel either as an option or preferably as standard on a top spec car. That's because my wife has Reynaud's, one symptom of which is icy hands, and she would really like to swap her car for one with a heated wheel.
  • Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 2002 1.6 - Driver side heating fault 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hello all. I've a small problem with the heating in my Laguna and any assistance would bw most welcome. The car has a digital control for the heating. All aspects of the unit work just fine except for the heating only on the drivers side. She has heating on the passenger side and thus has no problem.
  • Toyota Verso - Insurance Trap useless windscreen cover 5 Mar 2016 (Forum)
have Insurance through Admiral. Windscreen broke but Admiral will only realistically use Autoglass. Complete disaster, after nearly 3 weeks turned up with windscreen for a left hand drive car (fixings for autowiper etc in wrong place) and informed that once they get the correct part the cars VIN plate will be covered by windscreen surround!

  • My Saab 9-3 needs work to pass the MoT - where could I sell it instead? 8 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • Galaxy Nearly Had Her Chips Yesterday... 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Just north of Gretna, a 3 foot x 3 foot piece of lorry roof (ie fibreglass) came sailing through the air out of nowhere like a frisbee and bounced off the windscreen of the Galaxy. What a shock that was!! Having swerved across the motorway onto the hardshoulder, it fortunately turned out that the fibreglass sheet first made contact with the radiator grille, rather than the windscreen, hence the radiator grille took most of the force of the impact, rather than the windscreen and myself and 5 passengers!!
  • How can I clear the windscreen washer filter on our BMW 320d? 12 Oct 2013 (Ask HJ)
The windscreen washer water filter of my wife’s 2003 BMW 320d is blocked. The nozzles are ok, but not having used the windscreen water for six months due...
  • Ford Focus 2002 - windscreen problem 25 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Hi .just aquired this car .being only used to much older car's where everything is manually operated ..ie windows wipers .water etc Anyway it seems that to spray water onto the windscreen it wants to start swiping the windscreen before it's even wet which is ridiculous and it carries on for ages and I think after all of 12 or whatever years of this it has totally ruined it .
  • Broken rear windscreen - A4 Avant 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
When we came back to the car from a shopping trip on Saturday I noticed that the rear windscreen had been broken. What was odd was that it didn\'t look like a break-in attempt. The damage was thus. There was a large crack running the length down both sides of the windscreen.

  • Replace Battery? 16 May 2017 (Forum)
My car battery (now 4 years old) suffered a lot of abuse last winter - short journeys once a week with all the electrical equipment on (lights, heated front and rear screens). During this time, the indicator on the battery was usually red (i.e. discharged).
  • Good deal? 21 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I'm traiding in a 51-plate automatic Jaguar x-type 2.5 Sport with metallic, leather seats, climate, heated front screen and real park assist. Great condition. Checking Glasses, What Car and Parkers I'm getting varying views on the p/x price - anywhere between 8k and 9.5k, it seems. I've been offered 9k by a local Jaguar dealer against either: a 55-plate 2.2d Sport with leather seats and metallic with 7k miles on the clock, or an 05-plate 2.0d SE with only 5k miles on the clock.
  • Polo 1.2S Driving Impressions 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Latest loan car is a three cylinder Polo 1.2S. Seems very well equipped with front fog lights , heated powered mirrors , air conditioning. The three cylinder engine looks tiny, the plastic cover having gone AWOL.Thank goodness there is no cambelt on one model.Lets's hope it sets a trend back to chains.
  • Windscreen chips 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
It maybe me, or just wrong place, wrong time, but does anyone else think that modern windscreens seem to get chipped more than before? I don't mean necessarily that more stones etc are being thrown up, but simply that it seems to take less impact to chip. E.g. I was doing about 40mph, as was an on-coming vehicle and the little chipping that hit the windscreen on my 2002 VAG group car with Pilkington glass, sure enough took a bit of glass out.
  • My insurer didn't fix my chipped windscreen - should I have to pay now that it's cracked? 19 Jul 2017 (Ask HJ)
