  • Seat belt wearing 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Looked around at the seven vehicles I could see around me, suddenly struck me that only myself and one other driver/passenger were wearing our seatbelts. A couple of these cars were full of children, obviously on the school run, NONE of the children had a belt on. This wasn't on a minor back street either but on a main A road just after a 40 limit down from 70 about 400yds back with no junction back for two miles, so they hadn't just 'popped round the corner'.

  • Vectra Steering 6 Aug 2001 (Forum)
There does not appear to be any lost motion in the steering system and I cannot detect any movement ib the steering coupling. What worries me is the clunk is only evident when the engine is running (ie the power steeing is in operation). I am told it may be a steering column bush but do not see how this fits in with above symptom. Any suggestions please
  • MOT and NEW CAR... 19 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I am right, or wrong. that if I submit a car due its first MOT one month before that the MOT will run for thirteen months just as if I submit a older car one month before its actual MOT expiry date? No guesses please as I need to know to "roast" my garage if they have got it wrong! Car MOT'd today, due first MOT 18 August 2001, it comes back with an MOT expiring not 17 August 2002 as I expected but 17 July 2002!
  • Honda Accord/Lexus IS200 anyone? 8 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I had a Honda Accord 10 yrs ago and loved it, but what about the current 2001 car? Is it as trouble free as my old one was, is it good on long runs, and in particular is quiet? I hate cars that suffer tyre and wind noise! The dealer was always very helpfull as well. And what about Lexus IS200? Did well in the JD Power survey, and comments? Thanks Tim
  • Hyundai Tucson - Air Con Not Working 17 Jul 2025 (Forum)
Good morning, The air con on our 2016 Hyundai Tucson has stopped working. It runs warm and has developed a slight rattle type noise. My initial thought was to get it regassed. I took it to our local branch of ProTyres who very helpfully did a free check for me. It failed the vacuum test.
  • Nissan Pulsar - Best used sub-£10k pothole proof SUV? 7 May 2025 (Forum)

  • a cheap car to trust 1 Apr 2025 (Forum)
I thought I would start a discussion and see where it goes...lol   If you had £5k or less in your pocket and you were asked to buy a cheap used petrol car that would take all that climate change has to throw at it... floods, snow, mud, ice etc ., not cost a fortune to run ( tax etc ) and you could rely on getting you out of those difficult poor weather situations what would you choose ? Let all presume the car you buy will have good all weather tyres , 5 door and family size Take it away experts and doom sayers lol
  • Nissan Juke - Is melting classed as a fire 17 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Hello - I hope someone can help me with this question please. My Wife's car was running on the driveway and then just stopped. Dashboard dead when trying to turn it over, and no electrical functions anywhere. Full tank of fuel, oil ok and nothing obviously visible. Tried to jump it and nothing either.
  • 2013 Vauxhall Astra CDTi Diesel - Cost to remove and clean DPF unit 18 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I've been quoted £300-400 to remove the DPF from my Vauxhall Astra CDTi, clean it on a "proper" cleaning rig, reattach it and then run the diagnostics. Does this seem expensive? It's a garage that I trust in terms of workmanship, they've always done a good job but they aren't exactly the cheapest place. For the DPF I've seen other places advertising a similar service "from £99"  but whether this is actually true or not I don't know.
  • Peugeot 208GT Hybrid 136 Auto - 2024 Peugeot 208 Hybrid cutting out? 10 Feb 2025 (Forum)
My two month old Peugeot 208 hybrid keeps cutting out when trying to drive the vehicle. It's been running fine until this weekend, engine cuts outs and restarts itself after a few seconds and then repeats the problem. There are no warning lights displaying. It's the first time I have owned a hybrid vehicle and I don't use the vehicle that much, could this be the problem?
  • Vauxhall Mokka 2015 CDTI - Acrid Smell From Exhaust 4 Dec 2024 (Forum)
It passed it's MOT in August with no advisories. I have tried a fuel cleaner and a cat cleaner but these have made no difference. The engine is running fine and there are no warning lights on the dashboard. Does anyone know what the cause could be ? About a year ago there was a leak from the turbo hose which was replaced. Could this be a factor ?
  • MERC BENZ - Anyone have access to ukvehicledata.co.uk? 9 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, Could do with a favor - Does anyone have access to ukvehicledata.co.uk? I have tried to run a Reg check on a car that is being a nuisance locally with parking and general terrible driving and every check I have tried to do has come back unsuccessful, I have tried DVLA / askMID & even parts suppliers to see if the reg will show anything.

Now I want you to imagine when you drive down a side road, or if you live in a terrace house like most people do half of those houses doing the same thing.
  • How well does the Mk2 Renault Clio hold up today? 10 Feb 2022 (Forum)
The second gen Clio, particularly the pre-facelift (1998-2001) has caught my eye, after spotting a nice W reg online for £1.2k (now sold). It looks nice (better than facelift to my eyes) and should be cheap to run, and so far as I'm aware it's supposed to be one of the mechanically better and more reliable Renaults of the time, no? Anyone here with experience of that car willing to help please?
  • BMW 125d, 2013, manual, stop start - BMW 125d S/S potential duff alternator? 19 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Hi all, this car has a new battery, but the starting problems continue, particularly after a run, although no messages or warning lights on dash. Is it possible the alternator is faulty, but not SO faulty that it doesn't throw a dash light, or error code? Apparently there are two different alternators for this model, and i need like for like, or the ECU will reject a new one if its wrong?
  • n/a - Back to diesel power - electric too costly. 18 Dec 2021 (Forum)
A 200% increase in electricity costs for each train cannot be absorbed by the operators, or customers, and so necessary action is being taken to ensure that trains can continue to operate delivering vital goods across the country" http://www.rfg.org.uk/press-comment-use-electric-traction-rail-freight/ How embarassing on the run-up to the glasgow climate clown show - where's all that cheap power from the windmills and solar panels?

  • VW/Toyota/Ford/Renault - Diesel Vans 7 Jul 2021 (Forum)
We have a static caravan on the Welsh coast, the site also provides services for lodges, towing caravans & tents. It's not a massive site though you see the maintenance people running round in vans, all diesel, with offerings from VW, Toyota, Ford & Renault. They range from 2011 - 2016 & shuffle about the site on very short distances. I assume they all have dpf's & it's always fascinated me if they have any problems. l recently had the opportunity to speak with a couple of the drivers & the manager of the site, who stated they haven't experienced any issues with dpf's.
