Servicing rip off 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Trouble is, my gf had asked for a basic service. I would have interpreted this as an oil change and visual inspection. Given Kwik-fit would do a change for, what, £25, I'm still feeling like she's being ripped off. Any suggestions on how to approach this when I go down to collect it for her. -

Oil Suction Pumps - any good? 17 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I need to change the oil on my car and am increasingly appalled by the prices charged by garages to carry out a pretty routine task. I do not have the facility to drain the oil through the sump so have been looking at one of the vacuum/suction devices which uses a tube down the dipstick. -

I've got a 2003 (03 plate) Peugeot Expert 900 HDI van (the 1997cc turbo diesel) and I can't find any information on what the engine oil capacity is for a change with filter. Anyone know, and also what type/grade of oil this engine needs? Cheers in advance -

Mazda 6 2.0d - Regular Start/Stop - Short distance driving.... 13 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Can someone please help me understand if its ok for a manufacturer to state: Change your oil and oil filter every 6,250 or less if: (only one point added from handbook) 1. Driving for long periods in cold temperatures or driving regularly at short distances only. I need an insight to what you guys class as "Regular", how many miles are "Short distances" Surley there is no way of knowing if you should change your oil or not if you do different mileage per day? -

Quick Engine oil Question. 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Is this http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=91019&ts=93300 ok to use? Bearing in mind it will get changed every 6 months and do no more then about 4k in that time - but lots of stop starting. Is it really worth paying more then double for same spec oil? -
Which HDi engine oil? 21 May 2007 (Forum)
What oil would be recommended for my newly aquired HDi 110 (in a 406) assuming 6k changes? I have a few gallons of Total Q7000 left from servicing its XUD predecessor which meets the handbook spec but would a fully synthetic 5w40 be more appropriate? -

Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 6 month oil/filter change recommended 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My Honda dealer today told me, when I happened to be in there, about an offer to change the oil/filter at 6 months for £39 or thereabouts. At about £8 a litre (GTX Professional, I believe) plus cost of filter, the foreman was saying this is very fair as it also includes a vehicle check. -
elite v6 automatic gearbox problem 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
hi all, i recently had my oil cooler replaced which stopped oil mixing with water in the tank, plus changed radiator unit (which included a transmission oil cooler) cost approx £400 incl labour. now the car developed a curious problem, automatic gearbox works fine when cold, after 5 miles or so, 1st gear develops a problem, becomes sticky, and need to push it down for 3 seconds before it responds, other gear changes seem ok. thing is though if i switch the engine off and back on then problem goes away for a nother 6 miles or so. -
Oil consumption ? why? 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have noticed that correspondents on this forum often quote oil consumption rates for modern engines. In the past, only old bangers used oil ? a measure of an engine in good condition was that it did not need the oil topping up between changes. My first car, a Triumph Mayflower which cost £10 of carefully saved pocket money, left a smokescreen behind when it pulled away, because the piston rings were worn. -

Pug 405 Oil Leak from engine mount 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Nothing anywhere near what was now dribbling from the sump. I decided at this point (and after perusing this very site), that it might just be the camshaft oil seal. As the timing belt was soaked in oil and needing a change I bought a new belt and both camshaft and crankshaft oil seals. The end of the block seemed pretty dry all over with the timing covers off, but the old belt had definitely been soaked in a mist of oil. -
